Francis has made such scandals null and void. Most catholics have now put that in the past. And since francis has taken action on the abuse, I am sure that some of those catholics have returned. Thus, his 10 points.

I sure hope that is true.  We'll see.

I am not going to name those who became very critical of the lds church who used to have a strong testimony and who posted on this  board. A couple  have been banned. My point was simple. When a member begins to lose their testimony, and I do have a couple of friends that this has happened to, the pope's ten points will not help. Too much disappointment. How many members have someone's podcast caused to leave the fold? I just don't see the pope's ten points working for those people.

My point remains that those on this board are not average LDS members.  For all of those who leave, there are also others who have left and are coming back into the fold -- not to mention the converts on this board.

Someone who listens to just one podcast and leaves the Church (any church) was probably looking for an excuse to leave anyhow.

Another principle I would add is watch a good 1980s show each day.  It can be Miami Vice, the A Team, or Knight Rider.

One of the ten statements was to help avoid suicide. ;)

Were you honestly expecting that he pope's ten points which the majority of LDS will never read would somehow help LDS stay faithful within the LDS church? Why would you think this?

I was just responding to the derail.

Thank you Mario! But your white whale is in another thread!

The 11th Commandment. "Thou shalt not take thyself too seriously".

Yeah but the too part is kinda hard to define.

Being prayerful and having lots of gratitude, always trying to look for the positive in any situation, are 3 things that work well for me and those things are mentioned a lot by our Lord's modern prophets. Self improvement advice usually helps a lot too as long as I don't try to tackle too much at once, not running faster than I am able, and keeping an eternal perspective. Having gratitude for all the good things I have is probably the #1 thing that helps to keep me happy.

No. But I think that Robert was thinking that the lds can have there own five or ten points to help remain in the church. Someone who loses their testimony it would be very difficult. However someone who is just inactive can certainly be helped from such a stategy.

It's individual. We of course can and sometimes do get so serious that we take spontaneity and joy out of life. The opposite side of the coin is that if we are always smiling. We keep  everyone else confused. ;)

Sounds good, Ahab.

Many years ago, I met a young Parisienne who always seemed happy.  She was very attractive and always had a ready smile.  She was a grad student at the Sorbonne.  However, she confessed to me that she could get depressed just like anyone else, even though it never showed.  Her secret:  She followed her mother's advice -- whenever you feel down, just smile, and people will smile back, thus making you feel good.  And it worked.  Sounds dishonest and crazy, but you can't argue with success.
