Heh.  What's Bob's reaction when you do that?  Does he hide?  Our doggie didn't know quite what to make of it when her "#1" (my mom) had such reactions when she watched Jazz games. ;)

My dear Bobby-cat...  he's used to me, and such outbursts don't seem to bother him because he can see/sense they aren't directed at him.  I rarely have to raise my voice to Bob... only occasionally if he does something like jump up on the kitchen counter in the food prep area... it's okay if he jumps up on this one counter, then on top of the frig then up to the top of the cupboards, but not the food prep part and he does know the difference.

Well, there's that, and there's leaving Goldenrod cat paw prints all over the house.;)

Edit to Add:  SPOILER ALERT...

The following post contains the score/results of the BYU-ECU game... I notice the game is now being shown on BYU-TV... it was not listed in the schedule earlier today... but I see they have changed the programming to include the game... so don't read further if you want to see the game... and not know the results... Sorry.

Wow!! What a game... BYU vs East Carolina Univ (known for being able to score points)...

I have to repent... for some of the questionable things I yelled at the TV/Cougars during the first quarter... and a couple of other times during the rest of the game!!

BYU finally prevailed in a hard fought game on both sides, to win 48 - 35...

In the first quarter, ECU led 14 - 0...(my first outburst), but BYU fought their way back and eventually went up by as many as 17 points unanswered points... but then ECU fought their way back, particularly during a time when Tanner Mangrum was out with a hamstring injury and questionable as to playing in the rest of the game... the replacement quarterback is a true freshman and his play showed his inexperience, but he tried... finally the score was tied 35 - 35 in the 4the quarter with 8 minutes to go.  Taylor Mangrum was able to come back in during the last 5 minutes of the game... he stayed cool and marched the team down the field at least within field goal range,  But again, BYU came through with a touchdown with something like 19 seconds left in the game... making the score 48 - 35.

ECU took over and their last play was a razzle-dazzle play where they passed the ball between their players as they ran downfield... but BYU finally tackled them and put an end to the game.  Whew!!

The ESPNU announcers were really complimentary of both teams but particularly BYU and Tanner Mangrum.  Go Cougs!!

I'm out of rep points for today, GG, otherwise you'd have more.  As always, thank you for your excellent summary.  One correction:  the score was actually tied at 38 - 38 when Mangum came back in.  The final score was 45 -38.

Here's hoping Mangum heals up quickly and can play this Friday.  Inexplicably, his absence also seemed to coincide with a defensive letdown.  Of course, 2 three-and-out series followed immediately by an interception did nothing to give them a rest and/or inspire them.

On another note:  Congratulations to the Utes and all their fans on the board!  They are having a remarkable season--they're reminding me a lot of the 2004 Utes.

I agree, Okrahomer... the Utes are doing terrific... Last I heard they were 5 - 0...

I was visiting my brother in Portland over the weekend and they sadly told me that their darling 16-year-old cat, "Stir Fry", was going to be put down today. It's just a darned cat, fer cryin' out loud, but it still makes me cry. He was a most excellent feline, and a credit to his species. I am going to miss him. I pray that your Bob will outlive and out-perform every other cat on the planet!

Oh, what was this thread about, again? Sorry, I just don't seem to care about sports at the moment. Ignore me, please, I am not fit company right now.

Those Cougars!!  They give me a heart attack.

After another slow start they picked up steam, got it together, and finally won 38 - 24...

Go Cougs...

Well it's halftime between BYU and Wagner, and BYU is ahead 49 - 0.  I see that the secondary is taking over, including the back-up quarterback.  I think they should just agree that BYU is the winner, and just continue to play for fun and practice for Wagner... and for our secondary... it would be a more even match, and give some valuable actual playing time for our secondary... Even if Wagner now will get a touchdown or two, there's no way they can catch up in a half... if they started getting too close, we could always send in the first string if needed.

GG

EDIT TO ADD:  The final score is 70 BYU... 6 Wagner...  The only gratifying thing was how our secondary was able to gain experience... most of whom were able to play for the first time in a real game setting in the Stadium in front of thousands of Cougar fans... what a day for them...

2nd Edit 10/25/15... I just read some of the notes on the BYU Sports site in regard to our win over Wagner... I for one wish we just would let that one go... IMO we had no business playing such a team... they clearly were absolutely no match for our Cougars.  They are a small College of about 1900 student population... what possible sports program could they have that would compete with BYU... as far as i'm concerned, shame on BYU for even scheduling a game with Wagner, let alone have their team come all the way out to Provo just to be so soundly defeated... 70 - 6... shame on BYU!!

Again...USU, Utes and Cougars outshine...good news!

Hello Jeanne...

After the BYU game, I turned to the Utes game with USC... If BYU isn't playing, I root for the Utes who are #3, and USC is unranked... but the Utes just really got tromped by USC... I was disappointed for them, but it happens... sometimes a lesser team will get all fired up and exceed their normal play...

Well, the Cougars managed to squeek by with a win over San Jose State --- 17 to 16.

Everyone agreed BYU played flat tonight, but managed to hold on... keeping San Jose's Ervin from his normal rushing yardage... one thing that gave me the vapors is how our team can make some really dumb fouls, like a personal foul for a 15 yard penalty that caused a brilliant 40-yard pass by Mangum to the 5-yard line to be called back.  Instead of a touchdown, we finally ended up with a punt.

I hope they review the films and see how we should have had at least 2 more touchdowns.

But, I'm thankful we won... the attitude of Coach M and the team members that were interviewed was that at least it was a win, and now to get focused and prepare for Missouri...

I agree with you Garden Girl; I have watched the Cougars my whole life, but I don't ever remember as many stupid penalties on a consistent basis as I do with this team under Coach M. I don't think it's anything cheap, but Coach M always seems to have them playing on the edge, and has instilled a physical, tough style that was non-existent under past BYU coaches. They play an intense style of football, but sometimes that intensity leads to stupid penalties.

Missouri will be a very interesting game....it will be interesting to see how the Tigers respond after all the drama that has occurred with their football team this past week with regard to their boycott. They either come out on absolute fire and bury the Cougs from the get-go, or they are lethargic and distracted and get pummeled by the Cougars. Either way, I don't think this game will be close, I just don't know who will get pummeled.

Missouri is supposed to have a really good offense(?)... or is it defense... one or the other, but one that will be difficult...

Though we're favored to win, this is no easy task...

Defense--some are saying Missouri's defense is very similar to Michigan's.  YIKES!!!

Well, I'm finally able to put tonight's game into perspective... the fact that we lost (20 to 16) a game we should have won is very disappointing for a fan like me...

But Missouri played really well... and yes, their defense was formidable... really motivated... even the announcers at half time were saying they hadn't seen Missouri play like this all season... that they were playing "inspired" football... Even their offense that has struggled was playing well. One reason was they were truly motivated by the announcement that their head coach was stepping down due to his health (cancer)... so it was sort of like a "let's win one for the Gipper" moment... (You youngsters may not even remember that was from the movie Knute Rockne, a foorball star from I think Notre Dame, starring Ronald Reagan).

But added to that, while we made some really good plays, we also made some really stupid penalties that allowed Missouri to take advantage... one such penalty had me sooo mad... by #34... when after the play he had a personal foul, and was also charged with "targeting" and was thrown out of the game.  As far as I was concerned, anyone making such a blatant mistake has no business playing and should be suspended from the team.

Anyway, I won't belabor it, but we should have won... and the team knows it...

BYU should have won that game on Saturday, though it was much closer than i anticipated....that's 2 close losses that the Cougs should have won (the other one being @ UCLA).

I predict BYU to lose to Mizzou on November 14th. Final score of Mizzou over BYU 20-16.

Oh wait...

Love ya GG!!

Hello Val...

My computer has been on the blink for about 5 days... just got back online today...

We should have beat Mizzou... but at least we had a decided victory this last game (52 - 10 over Fresno State)... now to get ready for Utah State!! next Saturday.

That reminds me of when the major players on M*A*S*H are in the OR during a Halloween episode talking about spooky happenings and paranormal phenomena.  The subject of premonitions comes up.  Klinger says, "My mother gets those.  She predicted the Japanese were going to attack Pearl Harbor."  Someone else asks, "Did she tell anybody?" And Klinger says, "Nah! She didn't get it until December 9." ;):D

Looking forward to Saturday's game between  BYU and Utah State....  In the meantime, tonight I watched #11 ranked BYU Women's Volleyball team win the WCC Championship title by winning 3 - 1 over Pepperdine, who played surprisingly well tonight... An exciting match...
