Teancum Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Thanks, calmoriah! As always, you're a wealth of information and sources. Too bad this is being reported by the Deseret News as a "fact" (or is at least repeating what the author stated). Hopefully people will figure it out.Well of course it is. It serve the (false ) mythical narrative that the church still wants to promote. Some things never change.
Teancum Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Hopefully Deseret News will issue some sort of correction for this. What type of fact checking is done on these types of articles? Most of the article is very interesting to read through and informative. Too bad this one error was included.Don't hold your breath.
Tacenda Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Yeah. I should ease up on the hair trigger.I always figure you'll forgive me since I'm unable to start threads. Getting pretty good at searching subjects, and making it work .
Scott Lloyd Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 I always figure you'll forgive me since I'm unable to start threads. Getting pretty good at searching subjects, and making it work . You are resourceful.
strappinglad Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 (edited) Sometimes it's dependent on whose ' diary ' is being gored. I note that diary entries are a favorite source for critics in an attempt to discredit some claim. Some diary exerpts are sacrosanct , others , not so much. Edited June 6, 2015 by strappinglad 1
HappyJackWagon Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 I always figure you'll forgive me since I'm unable to start threads. Getting pretty good at searching subjects, and making it work . Why can't you start threads? I don't understand.
Scott Lloyd Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Why can't you start threads? I don't understand.Folks on "limited" status are prevented from starting threads.
cinepro Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Sometimes it's dependent on whose ' diary ' is being gored. I note that diary entries are a favorite source for critics in an attempt to discredit some claim. Some diary exerpts are sacrosanct , others , not so much. Diary sources are used by both those who support the Church's claims and those who doubt them. If either side fails to recognize how problematic these sources can be, it's their problem. But if everyone agreed that diary entrees are generally best not to be used, I suspect it would be much more stressful for the supporters, as much of the history of the Church as it is taught by the Church is drawn from such diaries. 1
Bernard Gui Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 My participation on this board is not as a Deseret News representative. The day it begins to be widely viewed as such is the day I cease my participation here.If you have a problem with content, best to take it up with management. And calmoriah's advice is good: Come with documentation and solid reasoning. Many of us would rue that day!
HappyJackWagon Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Folks on "limited" status are prevented from starting threads. What are the reasons one might be on a "limited" status?
Scott Lloyd Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 What are the reasons one might be on a "limited" status?I infer that's a general question addressed to anyone who might know, but I'm not in that category.
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 What are the reasons one might be on a "limited" status? Not being faithful enough.
Calm Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 The most common reason that I believe I've seen is for excessively starting threads.
Tacenda Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 I thought it might have been for derailing topics. But don't recall exactly why I was put on limited.
Calm Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Yeah, that would be a likely one too...But the ones I remember off the top of my head...I am thinking about 4 posters, I remember a high level of excitment over something that led to multiple threads all at once, some repetitious. It really changes the board's personality when it happens, but generally isn't malicious so no need to kick off, just slow down....or at least thatis my impression.
