Popular Post Doctrine 612 Posted February 2, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 2, 2015 This after noon a man in his early 40's got up durring fast and testimony meeting said he knows the bible to be true and in error, then reads from Hebrews chapter 5 and 7 with his own words added in( meaning I have no clue were he was reading from) then said I bear you my wittness as a true desendent of aaron which I can prove and declare by the power of God. Amen. Then sat down.I was watching this man from when he got to the stand and was waiting to talk he seemed very distracted and upset, then after his testimony he sat down then after the meeting I aproched him and asked if he likes to study the scriptures he said I do and read them for many hours every night, I said I as well do the same and asked if he would like to get together and study and talk about them, he then gave me a disgust look and scowl, then said why would I like to do that.I told him it would be fun but I can see your not interested, then I asked how long he has been a member, he told me only two years then asked where he can find the bishop, i said follow me.We found the bishop in his office, introduced the man and then with out missing a bet he went into a rant about being a son of Aaron and that he should be the bishop of his ward since it is his legal right. And that he wanted the bishop of his ward removed, so on and so on.My bishop, looked at him and asked what would you have me do.The man said make a meeting with him and the stake president.Then my bishop looked at me and asked do you have anything you would like to add, I said yes, if the man really wants to be the bishop then we really need to make a meeting with the first presidency.The man asked why.I said because you may have rights to the office but you still need the first presidencys approvel.The man said that is not true.I then read to him d and c 68.Then the man got angry and left.The bishop and I talked and agreed we should let the stake know there is a man who needs help.What a weird day. 5
Stargazer Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 Weirder than mine, I'll admit. Our second testimony bearer got up and gave a 10-minute talk. It was a good talk. And she even ended it with her testimony. I don't think she was aware she was giving a talk, though.

It certainly is different.Read Cougarboard.com on most fast Sundays (You do have to be a "donor" to access the religion section, so this will cost you ten bucks). Everyone reports in on the strange testimonies in their ward. Singing testimonies, travelmonies, medical reports, false doctrine, you name it, it's been done on open mic Sunday. My best contribution was the couple who came up together and bore both their testimonies, first the wife, then her husband, standing together at the podium with their arms snugged tightly around each other's waist.

Of course, genetically speaking, if anyone is a literal descendant of Aaron, then we probably all are. For those who aren't up-to-date on the issue, D&C 107 says that a man who is the "literal descendant of Aaron" (i.e. Moses' brother) has a "legal right" to the office of Bishop. And he doesn't get counselors either: 107:76 But a literal descendant of Aaron has a legal right to the presidency of this priesthood, to the keys of this ministry, to act in the office of bishop independently, without counselors, except in a case where a President of the High Priesthood, after the order of Melchizedek, is tried, to sit as a judge in Israel. 1

(Exaggerated eyeroll for effect.) 2. In my 25ish years of being old enough to know what's going on around me, I have never witnessed anything except the normal proceedings of a ward. I wish I could be there when they serve crazy... I never get any. 2

He's a Lamanite (so he says) and doesn't attend often, but when he does it's often on fast Sunday and he comes up with some pretty bazaar stuff. I like it when he comes, it's a little more fun than watching people squirm when there's a gap. 1

Guest Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 If I were a descendant of Aaron, I would never tell out of fear someone might want to call me as a Bishop. On a more serious note (not sure if all would agree) someone who might want to be a Bishop just because of his linage and without counselors is puffed up with pride. This type of pride has no place in the Church...ambition is an ugly thing when it comes to service to God. "He that would exalt himself shall be made low".

strappinglad Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 As I've probably said before, my uncle is a direct descendent of Aaron according to his PB. The last thing he ever wanted to be was a bishop. Who ever doesn't want to have councilors doesn't understand the value of delegation. This might become more of an issue when there are lots of Jews converted to the gospel. Until then, the point is nearly moot.
