I did not used to understand how important sports programs can be to universities' budgets. And as long as there are sports there will be testosterone which means hard to control aggression. It isn't as much about righteousness as it is about human nature and competitiveness. I think the BYU football team overall has a pretty darn good record for college sportsmanship considering the amount of testosterone it takes to achieve that level of competitiveness (and I would wager that the female athletes are no exception). I believe that if BYU Football mars the church and its name, it will be shut down in no time. 1

If you watch the video you will see the start of the whole thing was when a Memphis player attacked a BYU player. Regardless a sad ending to the day. Embarrassing for #12. There's a video that caught what had happened earlier. He swung at a Memphis player getting grabbed by coaches. the Memphis player then laid him out. He was getting picked up and escorted to BYU's side and then let go right when he happened upon the back of this other Memphis guy whom he tried to hit from behind, only causing the Memphis player to cheer. As I saw the video, if the BYU player didn't push, or head butt, the Memphis guy with his helmet off, the Memphis guy wouldn't have hit him back. For a normal school, they would give up their independent money and control in exchange for getting an equal cut of the conference's money and control. But BYU has an unusually large investment in its media operations thanks to the church. And the Big-12 has a fixed TV deal for the next several years which would mean all existing schools would get less of the pie during that time if they brought in more schools. Unlike any other school, BYU could possibly work around that by joining the conference but forgo the money and TV rights in exchange for running their own stuff while the Big-12 TV deal runs out.Isn't there a danger of the separate TV deals running against each other?

I'd see BYU trying to implement changes to the program before shutting it down. In this case, some players might get suspended or something like that. Coaches might get severe dress downs or something.

You have professors who put in way more time, are way more schooled, etc who make a 1/10 of what these coaches make- its ridiculous! The football program garners tons o cash. they are paid market value. it only makes sense. Entertainment is a huge force in our economy. it may be ridiculous but it's the way it is. I'm just passing along what I've read in various news sources. If there were some insurmountable conflict I imagine they'd mention that rather than continue the speculation that BYU is being considered.

She also went out with Steve Young. And I believe McMahon went on to marry the daughter of a SP. Does anyone know the story behind him wearing sunglasses? When younger he was trying to get a knot out of his shoes and used a fork, and when bringing it up he stabbed his eye. Also, I think it's sad he is suffering from dementia, it may have stemmed from getting hit in the head too much. I thought it was wonderful for BYU to recognize him at a recent game. Did anyone else see this? Yes. Wisconsin.There are brawls in nearly all sports at one time or another. No big deal here. The national news just picked it up because it looked cool on TV. Coaches in the bigger conferences like the SEC make 4-7 million per season.

I was thinking more about the rape scandal several years ago. Doesn't get much worse than that and if that didn't get it shut down then nothing will.

Regardless a sad ending to the day.Tonight I watched "After Further Review" on BYU-TV and they showed the video and commented on what had happened... and it was several Memphis players that went right up to BYU players tauntingly and a BYU player pushed the Memphis player away, then another Memphis player threw a punch and that started it... the video showed a BYU player on the ground and a couple of Memphis players kicking and hitting him...The boy with the bloody face escalated things... his actions were inexcusable according to AFR... The real sad thing is that the news media is focusing on the fight instead of what a wonderful and exciting game it was on both sides. BYU should have "turned the other cheek" at Memphis... but they didn't and let's hope they learned something. If Coach M. makes that type of salary, he is a piker compared to other coaches... and knowing the Church, I actually doubt he gets paid in the Million(s). Yes. I think, knowing the Church, that Coach M is paid on the conservative side vs what some coaches make, particularly some of the power 5 schools, etc.. Just think of the millions BYU makes on its Cougar Wear alone... and everything else to do with the program. And by the way, how many other schools do you know that hold team "Firesides" with inspirational talks and prayers the night before a game... The Miami hotel that housed BYU had only the best of comments and impressions for the team. And numerous others the same way when coming in contact with BYU players and staff... Wasn't there just some litigation over this recently with the athletes saying they should be paid?
