I've been thinking about what the best feelings we can feel in this earthly life such as love, a high from a drug, achieving sexual satisfaction, pain going away and feeling relief and I wonder if we'll have these feelings 24/7 in heaven and how good we'll actually feel. I've been told heaven is 10 times greater than anything we can imagine, so I can only imagine how we'll mentally and physically feel while there. What are your thoughts?
cursor Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Aside from what anyone has told you, you/they/I don't have a clue what heaven has to offer in terms of our current life experience. And certainly any comparative terms would have to take into account "one's current life status." Is it good, is it bad ... is it REALLY bad? Imagine for a second that if your life is wonderful, you have married the love of your life, you have had six marvelous children, you are active in the the LDS Church, you pay a full tithe, you own and exercise a temple recommend ... etc, etc. Alternatively, imagine that you are a single individual who was born in and was raised in North Africa. You have no wife, you have no children (the love of your life was raped and murdered on her 15th birthday)... you have no temple recommend (and you have no temple to attend), you are beaten daily by authorities who don't give a damn, Do you see that it is impossible to respond to the original post in this thread? Considering the breadth of human experience on this planet, how can one reasonably quantify the relatively higher value of the after-life?

We cannot even articulate the desire and it usually manifests as a longing. A longing that it is sweet to enjoy but bittersweet in that we do not see a possible fulfillment. All of life (romance, sex, travel, exhilaration, peace, joy of understanding, love of family and friends, thrill of victory, etc.) all falls short. We want more. Heaven is that more. The fulfillment will be unique to all of us. Our place in heaven will fit us perfectly because we were designed to fit there. Earth life will be an unpleasant nightmare by comparison when morning comes.It has been said that if we knew the truth we would weep in sorrow at birth and rejoice at funerals of the righteous dead. They are right to say it.Heaven will also see the sundering of ego. Imagine being able to rejoice in every achievement of everyone as if it were your own. Every bit of happiness and joy shared. We imagine relief (from whatever collective pains we endured in this life), but who''s to say that we don't just start over again, with a brand new base of knowledge and experience ... somewhat oblivious to what went on before (which could be a blessing to many). Do you remember your Pre-existence?

It both humbles and confuses me that so many are willing to devote their lives to a faith without exploring the eternal rewards of it. I cannot decide if I am self-centered or so many others are just oblivious. Probably the former.

I know the man from North Africa about whom I write. What are his guarantees? How might he reasonably "know" them? Exactly how many fold greater might his heavenly experience be (above his measly life). The fact is that it is impossible to quantify any value +10% or value + 1000%. What might it mean, realistically, in terms of one's personal life experience?

His shift in lifestyle if we end up in the same place will be slightly more of an upgrade them mine will be.....but only slightly. This planet is not currently a very pleasant place.

And it does tend to compel us to keep our home and family in an atmosphere of what we would like heaven to be like. 2

Calm Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 In our mortal bodies, even the best pleasure if it continues eventually dulls and is not longer so pleasurable, if pleasurable at all (think of the first bite of your favourite food after not having it for a year…ummm, lovely….now think of the hundredth bite…uh, yech, and vomiting due to an overstuffed stomach and likely never wanting to touch that particular delight again). Heaven, I suspect, will remove the physical limitations of sense and we will experience what we experience in all its dimensions no matter how long we are exposed to it. Ahab Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Well then take a guess.Okay, well, first of all, heaven is more than a place or only one place and is instead filled with a never-ending supply of places and each place has lots of things in it that can be felt and handled and smelled and tasted and that generate their own kind of sound that can be heard by anyone who pays much attention. Kinda like here on this planet, which itself has a heaven and can be seen to be a part of heaven when seen from some other places in heaven.I think my favorite part to think about and feel like it will be the best part of heaven or the heavens is that I will have an incorruptible body to experience everything with, though. I'll even be able to feel and play with very hot fire without getting the least little bit of a burn, and while still being able to feel what fire feels like.

After all, it was on the cover of the hymn book.When I joined the Church, at age 28, and soon after saw my first General Conference broadcast from the tabernacle, I saw what to me looked like a depiction of the kingdom of God in the background with blue lights lighting up what I thought were buildings with spires of different heights. It took me a while and several good camera angles before I realized those were the pipes on the organ, but I still think it looks like what I think some cities in heaven will look like, kinda like a lot of city scapes look like that here.
