I Have Temple Sealing Question

Recommended Posts

My wife and I don't have TRs. If she were to die and I got a TR after she dies can I be sealed to her? or if the situation were reversed. I die,  she gets the TR and then gets sealed to me.

I'm trying to figure out a revelation I had back in 2009. The Holy Spirit said to me " Go and be sealed unto thine wife, before it's to late." We've been working on it, we were inactive at the time, now we're active and have had Temple prep classes twice.   I'm wondering what "the too late" part is.

I don't know.  I'm certainly not going to take it upon myself to interpret another man's revelation. ;)  While I think those who use their mortal probation wisely will have "so much the advantage" in the world to come over those who don't, in a sense, for anyone who is on the path when he or she departs this life, there's no such thing as "too late."   Personally, I would focus less on the "too late" part and more on the "sealing" part.  Could one or both of you receive those blessings by proxy if you happen to pass on before getting that chance in mortality?  Sure.  But I also think the Lord wants as many of His Children as possible to receive their own ordinances during their mortal lives rather than receiving them by proxy in the next life.

My $0.02, for what they're worth.  I wish both you and your wife well, my brother! :)

If either of you were to die before the other, yes, you could still be sealed. And if both of you died without being sealed, you could be sealed by proxy. Heavenly Father provides for all scenarios of this nature, but as the previous poster said, I'd get it done in this life if possible.

I can't speak to the "before it's too late" aspect of your personal revelation..I have no idea what that might mean because it's never too late to be sealed that I'm aware of, given that work can be done by proxy, however, if I were in your situation, I'd get to the temple as soon as possible so the blessings from doing so can be made manifest to you and your wife all the more quickly.

It can be done. I smoked for 10 years. At the time I quit I was smoking 2 1/2 packs a day. I quit cold turkey. Good luck in your own endeavors to quit.

The temple is a place of blessings.  Completing the sealing ordinances between man and wife come with specific blessings and there is an urgency for all to receive them.  Yes, you can be sealed to your wife after her death and vice-versa.  However, in doing so you delay the blessings that are currently open to you while in mortality.

Rod, there is a special blessing afforded us as a couple when we go to the temple and perform sealings for our family members that have passed on.  It is true that that sealing can be done by anyone, but I have found the experience to be very rewarding and a blessing.

Go to the bishop, review what has happened in your lives, and determine exactly when you will go to the temple. I wonder how the Savior would respond to the fellow he told to go wash himself in the river had he chosen instead to wander about for several years before he ever went and did what he was told to do?

You might see if their is an LDS Family Services Addiction Recovery group in your area.  I've been attending for 6 years.  It is structured similar to AA and other 12 step groups, but adapted to a framework of LDS scriptures and teachings of modern apostles and prophets.

I assume you have also spoken to doctors for ideas in help with the smoking addiction.

The LDS Addiction Recovery groups can be very helpful as drums said and Kevin and maybe Bernard have spoken about on the board many times.

IIRC, you have said you have received blessings to help with it before.  Don't feel shy about asking for more blessings.  There is a parable about a judge who finally answered the appeals of a widow who kept bugging him IIRC, now I don't think God needs us to bug him, but it may be that the constant nagging of the Lord to help one is what puts us into a position that we can actually open ourselves up to receiving that blessing totally (it is not really God we are nagging, but ourselves…maybe there is a part of our natural man that is resisting that we need to convince) so keep the desire in your daily prayers, put your names in the temple and ask every now and then for another PH blessing...

And eat well and try to keep active, do things that help keep life calm and not stressful and your body not anxious.  There is a popular 'cocktail' for help in withdrawing from narcotics….since there are many symptoms that you wouldn't have for smoking withdrawal, you might look to see if there is one similar for smoking but it has some stuff in it that can help with the stress of withdrawal symptoms you might look into using…the vitamins and minerals and the L-tyrosine which helps with dopamine levels in the brain (I use that for my sleep disorder), you might also try alternating that (because they cancel each other out) with L-Trytophan which helps with serotonin levels (don't take this if taking valium or another antidepressant that might affect serotonin levels as you can get a nasty case of serotonin overload, check with doctor).

I've used this recipe with variations whenever I have a significant drug change that might give me the flu like symptoms of withdrawal (nausea, chills, shakes, feverish feeling).

Here is some advice from WebMD about withdrawing from smoking:

You probably know all this because of past efforts, but perhaps there has been some new little quirk added to help or maybe you've forgotten some little item that might be helpful so I decided to post the info anyway.

Not that we want you to substitute one addiction for another, but if you don't already play a computer game or something that can easily distract you, you might consider finding something (a solitaire game, there are lots of freebie sites, I like worldofsolitaire.com because of the colorful cards; maybe an online role playing game where you interact with others) that fully engages your mind but doesn't demand too much concentration or brainpower and might get you though periods where your brain is demanding another hit….so give it something else to do.

Yes you may be sealed to the person who has passed on, but I wouldn't be worried about that in a logical sense (probably can't help it on an emotional level).    You got inspiration.  You began working on it.  You have done so to the best of your ability.   For God that is always enough.

I had one thought on "too late". Not only can we not interpret when it is too late, but why or fit what it is too late.

Some finding out that death won't be too late to get sealed because it can be done by proxy may not realize that too late doesn't mean getting sealed, but may mean too late to make your relationship stronger through getting sealed, or too late to hold a specific calling you were for-ordained to because you will need the strength of that sealing or too late because of the peace the sealing it will bring now to children etc. You just May never know for what it will be too late for until it is too late or after this life.

Hoping you will be able to kick the habit!

Thanks for the kind words, advice and links for help. I have discussed it with my doctor many times. I tried Chantrix and I had terrible side effects. I do ok on nicotine lozenges but that just puts off the inevitable plus they are expensive. Maybe I'll ask for another blessing or try the LDS Family Services Addiction Recovery group.

Best wishes that you are successful. You can do this!

Thanks! All we have to do is conquer tobacco.

You can do it. Get to the point to were you say " I have had enough" Then go out and stop. Also, prayers help. Get a plan to quit and execute that plan. You can do it. I can't stress that enough. You are in control. Just don't beat your self up if you fail at first. It might take a few times but you will get it.

Hello Rod...

My husband and I were both heavy smokers (I was inactive and I smoked until about 4 years before I reactivated).  One week he had 3 -day conference during which he smoked heavily to the point that his throat became raw and sore.  It scared him so badly that he went to the doc immediately after he got home.  Of course the doc said no smoking, and that he should quit before it really was too late.  In the meantime we waited for tests to come back on his throat... well he dodged the bullet.  But it put the fear into him so we both decided to quit.

I chewed gum, used Nicoret gum, listened to motivational tapes, etc.  And I prayed... Slowly but surely I overcame the craving to smoke... and I felt free... Neither my dh nor I could stand the smell of cigarette smoke ever again.

One time after I had quit smoking, we were visiting my folks and I got out of the car and hugged my mom... As I hugged her I asked... Do I smell better?  Mom laughed and said... You have no idea!!

It was difficult, but both dh and I did it.  Do not give up.  I'll put your names in the temple...
