D&C talks about how we can inherit thrones, kingdoms, principalities, powers, and dominions. I noticed that the thrones and kingdoms are in plural form. Does this mean that we get more than one throne and more than one kingdom? And what was brought up in another thread by a poster, is they think the throne we are promised is symbolic. Do you think we'll actually spend eternity sitting on a throne or thrones plural, or will we be standing for eternity with the thrones being symbolic? And the same goes for being promised a crown of righteousness. Will we actually have a crown on our heads or will it just be symbolic?

For example - a throne - it may not be a big golden chair, but it still represents us ruling over our stewardships, servants and families. I don't believe these things to be completely symbolic.Likewise I doubt we wear an actual crown but I'm sure we rule and reign over others by authority we hold. Edited August 30, 2014 by JLHPROF

Although there are many scriptures where various prophets have had visions when they saw God sitting on an actual throne, the fact is what they saw in these theophanies is purely symbolic. It needs to be understood that whenever a prophet, such as Lehi in 1 Nephi 1, sees God sitting on a throne as he presides over a heavenly council, He is not sitting on an actual throne (after all, it's difficult to imagine God would be pretentious enough to want to sit on a real throne), but what He actually sits on during these important councils is a five dollar folding beach chair He bought at a Walmart at an "end of the summer sale." strappinglad Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I have lived long enough to realize that I have little desire to rule over anyone. I have enough trouble ruling over my unruly self. If I were to inherit a rare Ferrari from some distant uncle, I wouldn't be able to enjoy it because I would be constantly worried that it might be damaged and reduced in value. Unless I have a massive change in personality in the hereafter, getting a kingdom to run would be the ultimate "white elephant gift" . As for God's throne, I hope that it is the heavenly version of a Lazy-Boy recliner.
Ahab Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 I can visualize our Father sitting on a throne and wearing a crown in what I would call a celestial room, a throne like the leader of the X-men sits on while wearing his "helmet" that helps him to see and focus on everything everybody is thinking.Not that he has to sit in that room on that throne or wear that crown to be able to see and focus on all of those things, but I can see why it could be nice to have a special place to do that, and it would help to be able to sit down instead of having to stand up all of the time.

I'm tired of being in charge, it just doesn't appeal to me. I like to be a part of the work--not the head of administration. Are driven people with extreme organizational skills necessarily more worthy than others? I would say no. So I can only conclude that thrones, powers, etc. are not a reward for righteousness but the eternal destination for people who are both righteous and inherently possess those leadership skills and who desire to continue in that work in the hereafter. You also have to wear a crown forever or be bareheaded forever. Heaven is utterly and completely stagnant.

Do you think God the Father questions what is going to happen to his throne, if he even has one, etc. I can understand curiosity, but very few of us have had a vision of the heavens and for those that did, I don't think God informed them whether it was a moment in time or his eternal state. Iirc, any chair a king sat in became his throne. A throne does not make a king, but a king a throne. Same thing with a crown.Think of it as any plane a President gets on becomes Air Force One. If I say that I would like to share a thought with you, I would express that thought in words which you would hear. Sometimes language is not perfectly literal.

And Katherine, I do wonder if the thrones and crowns are literal or just symbolic. Maybe our glory and power will be measured in how bright our whiteness of our robes are and how shining we look.
