A few years back our neighbor told my husband that his brother went to the temple and sealed himself to his girlfriend who had just been killed in a car accident. They were engaged to be married. I had never heard of that, am I dumb, or is this perfectly normal? It could be done but as I understand it now he would have to have permission from her family. Now back to topic. 1

As if what you get is yours alone and nobody else's. Remember that if our Father ever gives you a planet to decorate and populate. It will still be his planet as well as the planet of everyone else who is an heir to all that our Father hath. 1

D&C talks about how we can inherit thrones, kingdoms, principalities, powers, and dominions. I noticed that the thrones and kingdoms are in plural form. Does this mean that we get more than one throne and more than one kingdom? And what was brought up in another thread by a poster, is they think the throne we are promised is symbolic. Do you think we'll actually spend eternity sitting on a throne or thrones plural, or will we be standing for eternity with the thrones being symbolic? And the same goes for being promised a crown of righteousness. Will we actually have a crown on our heads or will it just be symbolic? I have not read the thread but I have heard a temple president say this refers to the literal Kinship of Christ as ruler during the millenium etc. He indicated that it means that if we qualify for exaltation we will be Kings and Queens in the same sense that Christ will be. The throne is not literal- it is a symbol of heavenly and also worldly authority. Maybe someone already said that. But the worldly authority will be "real" if we qualify

I'm tired of being in charge, it just doesn't appeal to me. I like to be a part of the work--not the head of administration. Are driven people with extreme organizational skills necessarily more worthy than others? I would say no. So I can only conclude that thrones, powers, etc. are not a reward for righteousness but the eternal destination for people who are both righteous and inherently possess those leadership skills and who desire to continue in that work in the hereafter.Christ was "in charge" by being the sevant of all. That is also what a good bishop is. We also speak of "public servants". Of course that is pretty much a false euphemism when applied to real live politicians. But at least the concept is there! With an entire universe and heaven to be in where you never tire, who needs to sit down in a chair to get business done? My vote is that they're just symbolic and we'll enjoy most of our heaven standing or floating.

Well my question about the thrones was because many times in the scriptures prophets see God and Jesus sitting on literal thrones, so I was wondering if the thrones that we're promised to get in D&C 132 if we're exalted are literal or symbolic, and if what people claimed to see in the scriptures are symbolic too.
