strappinglad Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Having seen some of the odd cast of characters that inhabit this mortality , it wouldn't surprise me that the spirits of those types might not hang around to cause trouble in some place. They are ,after all, the same spirits which they had in mortality. 1

Not sure I fully understand the science behind apparitions -- but have run into so many incidents which have created firm believers, that I tend to believe that it is some type of imprinting that occurs at the site. Spirits are completely different. But I don't know if the Church has ever taken a position with respect to apparitions -- my guess is it is not likely that they have.

There are no ghosts, apparitions, spirits, poltergeists, demons, angels, etc, etc, etc, in science. 2

If there are such things as apparitions -- eventually we will figure out the "science" behind them. Some of the explanations regarding apparitions sound-like using scientific "language" to try and explain the difference between the two.

That is a really good question. It seems like they are more like a video that is stuck on repeat. I used to be really skeptical of ghost in general but I have to say after watching quite a bit of Ghost "adventure" type stuff my opinion has changed. I know that people can fake stuff, but I am not convinced that is what is going on in the ghost hunting shows. There have been other documentaries that I have seen that even taken with a grain of salt have some merit to them. But here is the thing for believing LDS, why do you bless your house when you move in? We specifically asked that any spirits in the house leave when we blessed ours. I do find this subject quite fascinating. My wife and I are planning on a ghost tour soon that is offered in SLC. I am not expecting much though.

JLHPROF Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 I of course believe in spirits, but I believe the only spirits that hang around earth are evil ones who never gain bodies and those righteous ones with specific assignments (guardian angels). Anything being "haunted" would be evil and should be 100% avoided.

IT does appear they have the ability to latch on to you. From what I have seen, it seems you can tell them to leave you alone. Of course I have no first hand knowledge of this. I will be sure to let you know how it goes. I think it is this Thursday in SLC. So yeah, I am going in fairly skeptical still. I know there are a lot of tricks and things that some people do. And some stories are bogus. But we shall see here.

Seems there was a family planning on a vacation trip by car to visit some relatives living in another state. They gathered with friends and neighbors as they prepared to leave. The family had a neighbor take a picture as they were getting into the car.... When they arrived back home after their vacation, they took the film down to be developed... new roll of film... new camera...Imagine their surprise when looking at the pictutres to see in the one taken as they were in the car and ready to leave, an image of Grandma... who had been dead for several years... sitting in the back seat as clear as anything. They had the picture, negative, etc., tested, and had no explanation except it was Grandma's "ghost." I saw the picture in the magazine, and it clearly showed an image of Grandma... I believe the family... GG 1

You are just not familiar with how careful some of the studies have been when it comes to ghost hunting. Often time they end up debunking things that happen. But what do you do when you come to things that have no explanation? So much for "Mormon Free Thinking". I can tell you didn't actually watch the video. Are you afraid to have your preconceived notions challenged that much on a topic as benign as ghosts that you dismiss it because I linked to the Blaze? Seriously. I have to go, I will watch it later, but it is very easy to trick news reporters, even skeptics, I will give you some examples later. I am open minded, I follow the evidence, but I won't believe that just because news reporters got scared, that doesn't prove anything. Some news-reporters will also get scared about this.
