I have to go, I will watch it later, but it is very easy to trick news reporters, even skeptics, I will give you some examples later.

I am open minded, I follow the evidence, but I won't believe that just because news reporters got scared, that doesn't prove anything.

Some  news-reporters will also get scared about this.

Look, I get it, there are people that fake stuff all the time. And some of the ghost shows are really hokey. Do I believe every thing that I watch? No. But there are things that happens that can lead people to change their minds and make you think more is going on than just winds (which btw the professional ghost hunters rule that out a lot and 1/2 the time it is debunked as wind) gusts in a house or some dude throwing a shirt out of sight.

I am telling you this video is quite different from what I have seen and I have watch a lot of this stuff before. It is seriously more compelling that other things I have seen. Esp the part with the cell phone. It is important to note, that what she recorded, she captured while the news crew was there. So they could falsify the report easily. But they didn't. So the point is that you are going to tell me that a professional news crew is in on the hoax? Something to think about.

For the record, I don't like the show "The Dead Files". The girl to me is a little nutty and I just don't care for the way it is dramatized. When you watch the video you will under stand this last comment.

Here's something from Church archives:

What is the back story behind these? The 2nd one looks hokey. My opinion on both of these is that they are fake solely because the "apparitions" are so clear. That seems to be something that is not very typical. And that skeleton, just no.

Why don't you watch the freaking video? It is from an ABC news source. Did ABC news just flub it up?

You guys are such clowns when it comes to stuff that goes against your view. The Blaze is just the source where I found the story. As you can see ( if you actually bother looking at the video) the news crew was very skeptical. That seemed to have changed quickly. Can you deal with the evidence? Or are you going to stick your head in the sand again? BTW those guys in Spain are clowns. You are just not familiar with how careful some of the studies have been when it comes to ghost hunting. Often time they end up debunking things that happen. But what do you do when you come to things that have no explanation?

So much for "Mormon Free Thinking".

I can tell you didn't actually watch the video. Are you afraid to have your preconceived notions challenged that much on a topic as benign as ghosts that you dismiss it because I linked to the Blaze? Seriously.

MFT is really into elitist pontification and ignoring anything that doesn't fit his world view.

I really hope he does watch the video. I mean this topic is not really that important in the grand scheme of things. I mean if his views are changed, I can't imagine that he will need change much in his life.

On a different note, I found it interesting that this thread started the same day this story came out that I linked to.

Edit: The words I was looking for was "paradigm shift". IF a believing Latter Day Saint accepts ghosts they will not need to make much of a paradigm shift to do so.

Well, by that standard he is going to have to reject a whole lot of stuff. But I get what you are saying. For some reason "science" does not even want to touch the subject of ghosts with a 10 foot pole.

I of course believe in spirits, but I believe the only spirits that hang around earth are evil ones who never gain bodies and those righteous ones with specific assignments (guardian angels).

Anything being "haunted" would be evil and should be 100% avoided.

"Only spirits that hang around earth" , you make it sound like righteous spirits leave the earth. Where would you get that notion? I have always thought Mormon teaching was fairly clear that the Spirit World is here on Earth.

I know I'm a bit jaded. But to me such things are wild tales from people running around in the dark in order to scare themselves.

I am the same, don't we believe Alma 40:11 that says that all spirits, good or evil are taken home to God? and not to hang around cemetaries, shops, houses and old theatres and stuff? I don't believe in hauntings and stuff. I believe in visitations or appearances but not this kooky spooky stuff

exactley, it's awfully convenient a photographer was around to snap a picture! and in good quality to boot! I think these were fairly common back then as a novelty

The Priesthood exists for the benefit of all of us, both spiritual and temporal.  Elder Richard G. Scott taught "...The purpose of the priesthood authority it to give, to serve, to lift, to inspire..."  The scriptures teach us in plain terms of the tangible blessings we can receive via the Priesthood:

If ghosts and demons do exist, and do haunt the Earth thereby causing distress, discomfort, anxiety and fear in the minds of the children of Adam, not to mention lowering property values, then why aren't Priesthood holders actively looking for ways to cleanse these haunted houses of their presence/helping the nice ghosts along to the next life?  I can see it demonstrating God's power and being talked about for years to come just like the tales linked above.  Where's the down side?  It cannot be an issue about the miracle removing the need for faith, because if that were the case then none of the above would have happened in the first place.  "Cleansing Unclean Spirits From The Earth Night" ought to be a regular Elder's Quorum service project.

What an interesting thing to bring up doug the hutt!!

Why don't the PH'rs take and go out in the world and use their powers more, do they not really believe they have it?

Fair enough, but I don't believe those who are placed in "Paradise" or the "Spirit Prison" have daytrip privileges to haunt our buildings.  I don't believe they are allowed to penetrate back through the veil to where we can observe their presence at all without direct permission.

Therefore, any spirits observable by us are either on a mission for God or evil.  Good spirits don't hang out in their childhood bedroom rattling furniture.

Why doesn't she invite the Skeptical inquirer team or Michael Shermer's team? That would be impressive if she convinces them.

I do believe spirits exists, but not hunted houses, I am skeptical about that.

There are lots of hunted houses.  I really think you ought to try to find a 3 BR 1.75 BA w/Garage house in good condition in Olympia, WA, for less than $150,000.  Now, that's a hunted house -- because there aren't any at the moment.

Interesting idea!  I should perhaps go out door to door offering to cast out evil spirits, heal amputated limbs, raise the dead, and so on?

I was recently asked whether Mormons believe in ghosts, to which I responded "which kind?" Disembodied spirits ? Yes, of course . Holographic apparitions which do the same thing over and over? Maybe , not sure.

I believe in poultrygeists who are the ghosts of chickens, turkeys and Cornish Game Hens. The do vigils, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner tables, where they weep and pray over the carcasses of deceased brothers and sisters whose tender, succulent flesh is being greedily devoured by ravenous, uncaring humans.

Again, I think there are two categories involved here. What people normally refer to as hauntings are the apparitions which are repetitive activities that manifest in holographic images or noises, etc. I don't think these are sentient , but are more like some kind of movie being played over and over again. As a result, they are neither good nor evil. Spirits, however, are sentient and would not be doing the same thing over and over again. As to their being observable, while I agree that some may be on a mission, there also appear to be encounters recounted by Church leaders where the spirit is not sent to interact with the mortal, in fact the spirit may be busy doing something else or on its way somewhere else. In these cases, it appears that the veil has become thin for some reason, or something has happened to the mortal that allows the mortal to see the unseen world. In our poetic language we often display Protestant and Catholic tendencies which suggest that Spirits go to some other geographical location. I think that is magnified by the movement towards doctrinal milk which utilizes poetic catch phrases.

I don't know, but I put them up as a joke.

OK that is fine, I had wondered. Pretty funny now that I think about it.

So after all that it is your opinion that the news crew was in on the hoax. Were is your evidence for this?

At least you watched the video this time. I just grow tired of blatant waves the hand with out even looking at the evidence. I am still some what amazed that you dismiss this as a hoax, but what ever. Truth is not just found in peer reviewed journals.

This is called a residual haunting. The other type is with an intelligent spirit and it appears that they can interact with us.

Okay, when I say Apparition -- I mean what you call "residual haunting" -- yours is probably a better term, because what ever these are they are the residue left behind after an event.  I have heard it said that Spirits may in fact be drawn to battlefields, bar/dives, and even cemeteries -- I assume that these are ones that are either evil or somehow haven't quite sorted things out.  I think the belief in spirits at least ones which are visible to mortals declined after WWII and it may have something to do with a sense that has atrophied in humans with the advent of a stronger reliance on science and technology.

I am not saying that, it is possible, but I am not assuming that. What I am saying is that there are other explanations

For example, the door that closed can easily be explain

"Even the closing door (did not close all the way) is unimpressive when I note this happens in houses when the air heat or cooling kicks on or another door is opened or shut causing a rush of air in the house"

I have read and watched all sorts of things. Some of them have merit some do not. I think it interesting that probably most skeptics have not watch all the footage that has been captured. "Orbs" are just bugs or dust, is really just too simplistic. The evidence that has been captured (by various ghost hunters) tells me that more is going on. Are orbs ghosts? Well that I have no idea. The article you linked has nothing new about skeptics. They simply dismiss it all as nothing "but ordinary things that happen in a house". I am telling you how many orbs have you seen in your house? How many dust particles have you captured in your home videos? How many weird shadows did you see in your home video's? I have never once nor any one in my family captured anything like what I have seen. I mean they are being skeptical for the sake of being skeptical. And because Deann "The homeowners have refused an investigation by objective researchers" does not mean it is faked or it is "bugs or dust" I just don't buy that sorry. I would like to see more investigations. I am all for that. But skeptics will remain skeptics no matter what, sometimes.

There is nothing wrong being skeptical but at the point of burying your head in the sand? There are things that people capture that are not explained by them "being dust or a bug, or shadow because a light is near, or wind gusts" Esp when these investigators try to recreate certain events.

Ghost Adventures constantly debunks the idea that orbs are dust or bugs as they show you what that looks like in contrast to orbs and shows the difference.

I love skeptics how all they do is criticize things but never once offer something to test that can be done to see if ghost are real. Just that you cannot use EMF detectors or voice recorders, "that doesn't prove anything", they claim. Well, what would? If pictures and sounds are caught and people are overly skeptical what can you do?

In the end if you don't believe in ghosts, its no skin off my nose. I am just more open minded about it than you are.

No, I am not certain, ghost and hunted houses could be real, but I am skeptical, I am simply not certain.

I like to search for other possibilities before making a conclusion, I am very open minded.

I used to be certain that hunted houses were real, but not anymore after I did my research.

I no longer believe in haunted houses, but I am not sure.

No, professional skeptics have tested the claims, they travel around the USA, but they have not found any evidence, they have only found other explanations.

You have you watch National Geographic is It real, please look for the full episode, they are objected, they present both sides.

You also need to see Derren Brown, he is a professional illusionist. and mentalist.

I haven't seen the Ghost Hunter episode, but I know you will be impresses of what Derren Brown can do.
