The Nehor Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Joseph Smith must have just been a real go-getter then. No, didn't you hear? He spent his time with boys of the lowest character drinking and bragging about what a liar he was while tricking people into paying him to find buried treasure. Everyone knows he was incurably lazy.
Saints Alive Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 No, didn't you hear? ERayR Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 It is more likely that it takes too much effort to start your own church. You have to find witnesses to testify of gold plates, write a book about an ancient culture or two, announce angelic visitations to restore authority, get the keys brought in so probably building a temple. It is much easier to just modify/corrupt an existing church. All she has to do is convince her followers the present leadership is in apostasy, continue to use the same scriptures and raise enough money to build herself a temple and it is a go.
Calm Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 That must be why the BOM is so similar to the late war and the first book of NeapolianNot so similar after all.http://www.mormoninterpreter.com/a-bayesian-cease-fire-in-the-late-war-on-the-book-of-mormon/http://www.mormoninterpreter.com/the-late-war-against-the-book-of-mormon/
Stargazer Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I like how you classify equality for women as corruption. As for starting churches vs modifying them I guess Joseph Smith must have just been a real go-getter then. Oh, good one! Great example of topic switching for someone's class in logical fallacies. If the Doctrine of Christ teaches that it is upon men and men only that the authority of the priesthood is conferred, then it is a corruption of that Doctrine to teach otherwise, isn't it? This has nothing to do with equality for women, any more than the fact that women can bear children and men cannot. If you do not believe that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has the priesthood of God, then why does it concern you so much that women who are members of the church do not get the priesthood conferred upon them? Can it truly bother you that what you consider false authority is denied to women? The Church is doing them a favor by keeping them from being sullied by this humbug, right? Or is it the case that you are here for contention's sake alone?
Saints Alive Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 All she has to do is convince her followers the present leadership is in apostasy, continue to use the same scriptures and raise enough money to build herself a temple and it is a go.Sounds familiar, at what point does she start marrying other women's husbands and teenaged boys?
ERayR Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Sounds familiar, at what point does she start marrying other women's husbands and teenaged boys? Whenever she wants it is her church.
Tacenda Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Whenever she wants it is her church. Was it JS' s church?
Saints Alive Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Was it JS' s church? No God wanted JS to marry 14 year olds and other men's wives.
ERayR Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Was it JS' s church? Look you either believe polygamy was a commandment of God or it wasn't. If you believe then yours is a moot question. If you don't believe it was and still want to be part of the Church you will have to come to terms with it in your own way. Saints Alive's question was in regards to KK establishing her own church. If she established her own church she could do as she pleased. If you believe Joseph Smith established his own church and not God's Church then your question would have some relevance. If you don't it is irrelevant. You will have to decide that for your self.
ERayR Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 No God wanted JS to marry 14 year olds and other men's wives. The gospel according to Saints Alive is totally irrelevant.
Storm Rider Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 No God wanted JS to marry 14 year olds and other men's wives. You might actually have a point if you knew anything about the OT or God's prophets. You might have a point if you had any degree of knowledge about the average age or common ages for girls to marry at this time. Come to think of it, you really don't know what you are talking about. Carry on.
strappinglad Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I think she should start an ' affirmative action' church, in which only women are ordained. That would level the playing field. There could be new scriptures that change every 'he' to 'she' ,none of this 'child of god' middle ground. In reality, it is not that hard to start a church. Now to maintain and grow one is a bit more difficult, but if one follows the rules used by the " how to get rich " churches ,it can grow exponentially .
cdowis Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 No God wanted JS to marry 14 year olds and other men's wives.May I suggest that you just start of a couple of your own threads -- one on the authorship of the BOM and another on JS and polygamy instead of drive-by snarky remarks. Let's hear a cogent statement on your research, your logic instead of juvenile trash talk.
Glenn101 Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I guess that we all have to lean sooner or later, Kate Kelly included, that there are 1001 reasons to leave the church (and the list seems to be growing, while there is really only one reason to stay. Glenn
thesometimesaint Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 No God wanted JS to marry 14 year olds and other men's wives. Why wouldn't he?
The Nehor Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 No God wanted JS to marry 14 year olds and other men's wives. How did you get access to omniscience to learn this. Can I use the method too? I need some lotto numbers.
ERayR Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 How did you get access to omniscience to learn this. Can I use the method too? I need some lotto numbers. When/if you get them PM them to me. Pleeeese.

(The compound was sold; it's a B&B now. Just sayin'! )
ERayR Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Is Warren Jeffs selling the FLDS temple? (The compound was sold; it's a B&B now. Just sayin'! ) She could probably get favorable terms.
VideoGameJunkie Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I bet if she changes her ways and repents then she will be allowed back into the church someday.
Buzzard Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I bet if she changes her ways and repents then she will be allowed back into the church someday.Of course that's the case. Repentance is available for Ms. Kelly and all others who get off track. And we are all glad that it is so.
cdowis Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 there are 1001 reasons to leave the church [and] only one reason to stay. May I say, a brilliant observation.
