Those That Can't Find A Wife Or Husband In This Life

If you go through your life unable to find a spouse and you are a worthy member, will you be blessed with a spouse in the spirit world or did you blow your chance and you remain single for eternity? I'm only 28, but I'm single and due to some certain medical conditions, fear I will be single throughout my life, and worry about being lonely for eternity. Thoughts? I'm trying not to make this a personal thread, as I'm talking about all those in the same situation and their fates of companionship.

I think can't and won't are different, people who can't find a spouse will be blessed with that in the next life but people who don't want to get married I dunno. I am in the dark though about people who shouldn't be married or married to whomever they picked (and their are plenty of awful marriages in the Church I HT one of them) I had a YSA Bishop whose wife was abusive to him and I can't fathom them being still sealed to each other in the next life-but fortunately not my monkey, not my Circus

Relax those whom though no fault of their own will receive EVERY blessing that the Lord has in store for them whether in this life or the next. While my parents weren't members of the Church in this life I took care of that after they both died. Assuming they want to be married in the next life.

"Ensign: Some who have not had the opportunity, after many years, to marry a faithful Latter-day Saint wonder whether it would be better to forgo marriage entirely or to marry a good, moral non–Latter-day Saint in order to enjoy the blessings of family life here on earth.

Elder Hanks: That is not a question that can be answered on a general basis, and essentially it is not a question that one person can answer for another. It must be handled in counsel with our Heavenly Father, and the answer must be sought through the Spirit. There are grave risks, of course, that eternal blessings may not be obtained if a nonmember spouse never develops an interest in the gospel.

But there can be missionary potential in the situation, too. Many men and women who have been converted through a faithful spouse bear testimony of their deep gratitude for a husband or wife, in-laws, and other loved ones who cared enough to share the gospel with them.

Some may never have an opportunity to marry in this life. However, the Lord’s prophets have taught us that all that is beautiful and lovely about eternal partnership and family life will be available sometime, and with joy we cannot imagine here, to those individuals who endure to the end in Christlike living."

"If we are faithful to these covenants, all of our sealings, covenants, and promises will be sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise. Brigham Young once said of a righteous woman who died before she had a chance to be married that she would not be denied husband, family, and exaltation. (See Journal of Discourses, 14:229; see also 8:208.) Thus, righteous people who die before being married or remain unmarried for valid reasons will have the privilege in the Lord’s own time to have these ordinances performed and sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise."

"In an address to single adult members of the Church, President Gordon B. Hinckley said:

“Because you do not happen to be married does not make you essentially different from others. All of us are very much alike in appearance and emotional responses, in our capacity to think, to reason, to be miserable, to be happy, to love and be loved.

”You are just as important as any others in the scheme of our Father in Heaven, and under His mercy no blessing to which you otherwise might be entitled will forever be withheld from you.

“You are precious and important to Him. You are precious and important to the Church. You are precious and important to all of us” (“To Single Adults,” Ensign, June 1989, 72)."

I don't think any blessing will be denied any disciple of Christ if they are faithful to the truths that have been given and live.

We don't know why life evolves the way it does; why horrible health conditions affect one and not the other; why one goes through protracted periods of unemployment; or why one never seems to find a potential mate.  What is evident is that we have no control over what happens to us, but we are in complete control to how we respond and engage with our lives.

The sealing power is not limited to a couple, but is effective both vertically and horizontally through the family tree.  There is no leaf without a branch and all are united through the sealing power.

Happiness is not found in focusing on what we do not have, but in the journey to becoming more like Christ.

In light of all of the gender-neutral evidence presented in the thread (though there's still an undercurrent even in some of it that seems to favor never-married sisters over their never-married male counterparts), I must confess no small degree of irritation that, since social custom in most all of the world dictates that men do the asking, there still a huge, unspoken assumption by many in the Church of Jesus Christ that there's no way that never-married men could merit the greatest blessings available in the hereafter if we die never having been sealed to anyone.  (As I've said before, it's as if they're saying to us [implicitly if not explicitly], "Oh, come on!  Agency, schmagency!  Just pick somebody already, bop her over the head, be sealed to her while she's unconscious, and ... well, she'll get used to the idea eventually after she wakes up!" <_<)

I love that idea!  Can you tell?! ;):unsure::unknw:

P.S.: I'm reminded of the scene from The Princess Bride when Princess Buttercup must confess to her Beloved Westley that she's married the unctuous Prince Humperdinck:

Westley: "Did you say 'I do'?"

Buttercup: "Uhh ... no."

Westley: "If you didn't say it, you didn't do it." :D

Medical condition aside, patience is key. My parents were of two entirely separate views about religion, (politics and marriage as well, now that I think about it) and separated and then divorced. My mother waited 35 years after the divorce before marrying again (got her husband baptized then they were sealed in the temple) at the age of 85 (her husband was 72!). Patience worked for her.

I waited more than 20 years after the death of my first wife before marrying again. I was 62 when I tied the knot for a second time. Patience worked for me.

You're 28? A mere pittance from my perspective.

God is just and loving, heaven will be a just and loving place too - where all tears will be wiped away... nevertheless, there are things to be learned through all stages of life, and happiness  to be found no matter what someone's temporary circumstances are.

Yeah thats what I heard too. But it STILL makes one wish they had someone in their life!

I still try to date. But at 56, older LDS guys just don't want LDS girls their age. They want young chicks. And when you live in Happy Valley like I do, young gorgeous women are a dime a dozen around here.    So why should a guy settle for anything less?   Even gals in their 30's and 40's, there's still a plethora of awesome looking gals. So competition is rough!

I've pretty much given up. But its okay really!  It's not like I don't have a great, full life, lots of friends, loving family, good job. I just wish I had someone to share it with. I'm alone, but not lonely. It's a shame really. I got a lotta love to give and want to spoil a guy rotten! LOL They don't know what they're missin! :)

Hi Red long time no see.

I'm now in my 60's, and can't imagine being married to someone that far removed in age from me. IMNTBHO men who do that are just boys that never outgrew puberty.

Hi Saint!

Yeah I know. Some men can't grow up! LOL  I have ZERO interest in younger men!  I'm not looking for any guy under 45. (even THATS pushing it cause that's a 10 yr diff!)

I'll just have to wait for the Millennium, I guess!  :unknw:

I think the point is always being open to the possibility. Former Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas was in his 70's when he married(not for the first time)a women much younger than himself. IIRC she was in her 20's. He remained married to her through the rest of his life. So it can still happen in this life. But anyway we shouldn't concentrate on what we don't have, but in being happy in what we do have.

If someone doesn't find a wife because of their own choices, I don't know how mercy will be extended.   But anyone who doesn't marry because of things they cannot control, inspite of their personal best efforts to do so and willingness to submit to the Lord's will, will NOT be denied all the blessings of heaven.

My oldest is in his 40's. He outgrew it pretty early with 6 years in the military some of which was in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm.

Under what doctrine would anyone be forbidden from finding an eternal companion in the next life?

as I say some people don't want to get married, or shouldn't and I call it the doctrine of common sense!

Just came across this looking for something else:

"D&C 132:4. Will Those Who Do Not Have the Opportunity to Marry in This Life Be Damned?

President Spencer W. Kimball said:

“I am aware of some young men and women who seemingly have not been successful in total fulfillment. Some have been on missions; some have completed their education. And yet they have passed the period of their greatest opportunity for marriage. The time has passed, and while still attractive and desirable and efficient, they find themselves alone.

“To you we say this: You are making a great contribution to the world as you serve your families and the Church and the world. You must remember that the Lord loves you and the Church loves you. To you women, we can only say we have no control over the heartbeats or the affections of men, but pray that you may find fulfillment. And in the meantime, we promise you that insofar as eternity is concerned, no soul will be deprived of rich and high and eternal blessings for anything which that person could not help, that the Lord never fails in his promises, and that every righteous person will receive eventually all to which the person is entitled and which he or she has not forfeited through any fault of his or her own. We encourage both men and women to keep themselves well-groomed, well-dressed, abreast of the times, attractive mentally, spiritually, physically, and especially morally, and then they can lean heavily upon the Lord’s promises for these heavenly blessings.” (“The Importance of Celestial Marriage,” Ensign, Oct. 1979, p. 5.)"

Okay. But, my question was: Under what doctrine would anyone be *forbidden* from finding an eternal companion in the next life?
