In this season I am supremely grateful for the Life, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. He humbled himself below all, so that by his power all might be risen up. He suffered both spiritual and physical death, in order to provide spiritual and physical resurrection to all. 3

Do we really teach or believe this? I guess to me that is one of the greatest beauties of Christ's Atonement. We are given as many chances as possible. God will never stop reaching out to us, never stop calling, never cease to wait, and never turn us away. Deo gratias! 2

Does Catholicism teach of second chances after death where one has passed on "turning away" during his mortal life? Do you have a final judgment? A state of eternal damnation from which one cannot return?

Do you have a final judgment? A state of eternal damnation from which one cannot return? Yes. Judgement happens at death and once in hell always in hell. HOWEVER, only God knows who goes to hell -- it is the sin of judgement to claim that someone else is in hell. Interestingly enough, the Church only certifies that people are in heaven (that would be the canonized Saints), but never that someone is in hell. We also have no problems with last minute, second, millisecond, miraculous salvations. Baptisms by angels, conversions by the Blessed Virgin Mary, etc. There is also the idea of purgatory, so a soul who is ultimately saved (meaning that they are not damned and in hell) might still need to "purge" the temporal effects of sin that remain. This might be somewhat analogous to the LDS concept of spirit prison. It is for those souls that we pray and offer Masses and intentions. In some way, that might be considered a "second chance" after death, though for those in purgatory their salvation is assured -- it is just a matter of the purgation being completed. The Church is divided into three parts: the Church Triumphant (those in heaven), the Church Militant (those on earth), and the Church Suffering (those in purgatory, sometimes called the Church Penitent). 1

As a little bit of insider knowledge, the actor who plays Jesus is from New York. He worked hard on his accent and does a great job. He softens it enough to be half way across the Atlantic. It's only "water" that I've noticed him struggling with (see the woman at the well video). I really like the "open" and "friendly" Jesus that he conveys. The "runner up" to play the part was instead given the role of Angel Gabriel.
