It makes more sense to make a permanent base on the moon where there is at least some gravity. If rocket fuel could be produced on the moon then space travel could become much cheaper and consumer friendly. Mind you, if you watch some of the NASA youtube videos, you might be convinced that there are already folks using the moon as a base. They could be reptilian though...

This earth is man's sphere and it was never intended that he should get away from it. The moon is a superior planet to the earth and it was never intended that man should go there. You can write it down in your books that this will never happen".

Maybe Joseph Smith (or whoever actually said it) was on to something. What was the context? Did he mean on a permanent basis, including the conception and raising of new generations there? If so, doubtful. If he means temporarily, for study purposes, much like an Antarctic base, I can see it happening.

Grudunza Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) I always thought of the JS "Quakers" on the moon thing as potentially being a misheard and thereafter misstated prophetic statement... Well, probably more of an off-the-cuff remark and not meant to be prophetic in the sense of "thus saith the Lord." But I can picture JS saying something to the effect that someday people will walk on the moon. And maybe he also made some comment about Quakers in the same conversation. And then whoever relayed that story years later mixed them together in the telephone/grapevine fashion.I have respect for JFS, especially as we are reading more about him and recounting some of his good statements this year in 3rd hour, but whew, he also said some real doozies. That is why I get a little peeved when someone makes claims that they not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time. IE; You might make a perfectly good neurosurgeon someday, but until you have some very specific earthly training and credentials. You not coming within a city block of me with a scalpel. 1

I remember that he wrote that Christ appeared almost immediately after the destruction, despite the clear statement in the text that it was at least a year later. Some of his comments against evolution were.... well, silly.

I am so old, nothing manmade had ever been in space until after I came to being.

According to the current definition of space the Germans reached space with their V2 rocket tests.......so unless you are really old.

I often wonder if Joseph wasn't cracking a joke about 6ft tall 1000 year old quakers on the moon - he had quite the sense of humour and often poked fun at peoples views of a prophet. All it would take is for some overly devout literallist to hear him say it, and presto, one weird doctrine. It's not like we have a record of it as part of a transcribed sermon (unlike we do with BY & the Sun people). We just have Oliver Huntington remembering Joseph saying it at some point and putting it in a journal and later teaching it in an article. I think it was a misunderstood joke. 1

The conspiracy theory is alive and well, being believed by (at various times) 6% to 20% of the US population, and as high as 28% in Russia. Truth be told, my maternal grandmother (who died in 1968) believed the moon landings were fakes, despite having watched them on TV. Different generation; different beliefs. -Allen
