Scott Lloyd Posted August 7, 2013 Author Posted August 7, 2013 (edited) Can anybody tell me when the rep point system was initiated? The board shows my first rep point was given to me on March 16, 2010, so I'm guessing it happened about that time or not long before.Edited to add, for what it's worth:Actually, that is the date of my oldest post to have been given a rep point, not necessarily the date i received a rep point for it. The awarder of the rep point, ttribe, could have come along later and presented the rep point to my post. Edited August 8, 2013 by Scott Lloyd
ERayR Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 So I decided to get in the game. I have 2,102 rep points for 10,614 posts for a ratio of 5.05 posts per point. Thanks y'all.
mfbukowski Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 You're late to the game, mfbukowski. Stemelbow already pointed this out. And it's complicated by the fact that some were making posts long before rep points came into being. But they also re-calculated your number of posts somehow as I recall. We all ended up having significantly fewer posts than we previously had- making the percentages look better than they really were, as I recall.
mfbukowski Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Now the thing to figure out for someone with more time on their hands than I do, is which single post got the most rep points, and who made it?I think I have seen as many as 8 points on one post, but I can't remember who made the post or even what it was about. Probably Kevin. Now that I think about it I am pretty sure it was Kevin.
mfbukowski Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 As of right now, half of kassie's posts have received rep points.Hope she can keep it going.
JDave Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 It occurs to me that calmoriah's total is all the more impressive when you consider that she doesn't have calmoriah to award rep points to her. It's true, I think she has provided a huge chunk of mine. I see people talk about running out and wonder if I am just really stingy. I have never run out, and normally don't think about it unless something really strikes me. Most of the time I notice that somebody gave a rep point to a post that I liked and I think, "Yeah, I guess that does deserve one."
Calm Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Okay I figured it out and have come up with a posts per rep figure.I have 89 rep points and 676 posts. I get a rep point for every 7.595 posts.Scott has 2,001 rep points and 15,337 posts. He gets a rate of a rep for every 7.664 posts.Cal 4,205 reps and 35,25 posts. 8.383 posts per rep.I ain't feeling half bad now. Thanks for notifying me. I would never have classed myself nowhere near the other two mentioned here. You also have to take into account how much posting people did before the rep system started up...there are some people with much higher ratios than mine if one were to only count the posts they have made since the system started, like Kevin Christensen is probably close to 1 to 1 I bet.
Calm Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I believe Kevin C. has the best ratio. About 2.5 posts per point. How many points can you give per day? Does it increase based on time on the board/number of points you have? The only downside of reading on a phone (as I do) is the mobile site offers no 'rep' button. I have to remember to get on my laptop and go and rep people.I think you can give about 10 up to a certain number of posts and then you shift to 50.
Calm Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 There's no record of it, but I'm fairly sure that if there was a table of the number of points given to others, you'd also be at the top of it. How very 'golden rule' of you. It's a nice way of telling people you enjoy hearing from them without having to respond, I only wish I had more to give out. I know sometimes when I agree with someone I don't feel the need to respond, but then that person might wonder if anyone is listening to what they say...so when I run out of rep points, I'll push myself a bit more to respond with a thumbs up or something... 1
Calm Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 It occurs to me that calmoriah's total is all the more impressive when you consider that she doesn't have calmoriah to award rep points to her. That made me laugh, Scott...hmm...just how high would I be if I could rep myself?I'd probably choose to rep posts that no one else thought were repable....it seems that when I think 'you know, that might give me a few more reps' after I finish a post, it never does, lol.
Calm Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 But they also re-calculated your number of posts somehow as I recall. I think that only happened to a few people...I can only hope with my 35,000 plus posts....

Probably Kevin. Now that I think about it I am pretty sure it was Kevin.I've gotten a 14 on one...I don't know if I've gotten one higher as I only know in most cases if I go back and reread a thread to remind myself what it was about. I wouldn't mind having that 14 removed from my count, it is not a post I feel needed to be repped at all though I appreciated the support, it was in dealing with a negative personal comment and it was a very unsatisfying discussion.I think someone may have gotten up to a 20 before...I am positive that someone has beaten me no matter what that count was, I know Blue Dreams and Kevin C. are prone to get high reps on a regular basis, I think having them check theirs might be the quickest way to do it, I tend to max out rep points every day so I would have to go back through a lot of points to find the one that others gave the most to as well...and I am not sure I am motivated enough to do that, lol. There is a certain set of us who are consistent in giving them out and then others who save them for 'special' posts it would seem and others who rarely do and then others who never do, others who used to and hardly ever do now...I suspect that is because they've switched to using a phone which does not allow repping. If I want to see how others are doing in rep points, I generally go to members and then do the sort on post count as most of the higher ones are in the first few pages, but newbies like Kassie that are getting lots of points right away would be anomalies that could be easily missed. Calm Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Looking at my early rep points, it looks like I started giving them out in June 2010...now I have gone back and given some posters retroactive points when I've been rereading a thread, but there were some there that didn't look likely candidates for those (not threads I'd likely search for). Assuming that a number of threads during that time got dumped and IIRC we were first only given 10 points a day to hand out, to me that seems like the most likely time period to me.However, it may just be a maxing out of the search function....I think I may see if I can find the announcement thread now my curiosity has arisen on this point.
mfbukowski Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I think that only happened to a few people...I can only hope with my 35,000 plus posts....Well I know you were one of my major contributors, but I just learned that you can find out who gave you points by clicking on them. I had always wondered how to figure out who liked stuff, sometimes it was obvious but lots of times I didn't have a clue. The ones I thought would be real winners were flops and vice versa most of the time
mfbukowski Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I've gotten a 14 on one...I think someone may have gotten up to a 20 before...Holy Sheboygan!
Calm Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Go to your Profile. On the left hand side there is a list and either the second or third one says "Reputation". Click on that. Then over on the right side of the box, it says "given" or "received". You can see posts you've given reps to and posts you've gotten reps from. Then if you want to see who has given your reps, you can click on the box like you've said you just discovered and go back as far as you want to go.
Damien the Leper Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Bear in mind some of us began making posts long before they instituted rep points. Cal, for example, was here quite a while before I was.Calmoriah was here on this board long before MADB and MDDB. She probably pre-dates the defunct Zion board from 30 years ago.
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 (edited) I have at last reached 2,000 rep points.I am now in the rarified atmosphere occupied by luminaries such as calmoriah and mfbukowski.I wonder: Does this mean I can now officially be nonchalant and say I don't care about getting rep points anymore because I have so many that one more is no big deal? Or do I have to wait until I come closer to 3,000?I am 700 behind you, I fear I may never catch the greats. I have often considered the day my posts match my post to freeze my account. Congrats. Can we get "pity points" to help the challenged. Edited August 8, 2013 by Bill “Papa” Lee

She probably pre-dates the defunct Zion board from 30 years ago.I started making posts before the internet even existed.Actually I joined the internet conversation by joining the ZLMB in August 2001, a little less than a year after it started in Sept 20000 and I was never involved in any other forum before that. There are a lot of people that are much older internet denizens than I am. I joined this board probably a year or so after it was first incarnated....I was too busy as a moderator on ZLMB to split my attention until that board went belly up.add-on: I actually joined about 2 months after it started, I just don't think I posted much for the first year or so. Last I looked at it, it was extremely high -- well above 20 iirc. Edited August 9, 2013 by Scott Lloyd

I also was a contributor to ZLMB, but it had been going for quite a while before I even learned it existed. I became a regular contributor after the Dr. Laura board was shut down. I was delighted to find that Daniel Peterson was posting on ZLMB. I had earlier learned of Daniel and his apologetics work from the SHIELDS web site. Then, I became acquainted with calmoriah, juliann, and other regulars. Edited August 9, 2013 by Scott Lloyd
