Golly... I'm way behind :cray:

GG

You could have more if I could issue them, but my status for almost if not a year does OT allow me too. Dispite behaving my self with no correction leads me to believe I will not be reinstated. But their house and rules. I am sure they are just too busy to notice,I could have cheated...integrity gets in the way. I just hope one day be allowed to be reinstated. It the mods do have a thankless job and I respect them...they have a tough job. but if I ever get out of the penalty box, I will be a good boy and give you many points, your advice and assisting me personally, makes you one of my favorites.

With brotherly love...Your friend, Bill

What's the story with the ZLMB?

For several years after the mass exodus of LDS posters, it was hardly more than a ghost town.

I just Googled it and tried to click on a link. I got nowhere, so I'm guessing it is now defunct.

Edited to add:

And I think it's a shame, because there had been some good, insightful comments archived on that board that are now gone for good.

It's a good reminder, I guess, is that Interet content is not forever.

Oh yeah just put something stupid up there when your young and then run for public office when you are older.

You want the LDS version or the critic version...at least the one that is the least complimentary...and then a mutual one that ignores some of the inherent problems of the way we were structured.

LDS: they got tired of being a target of posters who never exposed themselves to the same level of criticism

Popular critic claim: LDS couldn't handle being on an even playing field so they ran away

Moderator view: It is impossible to enforce civility on people at the same time as allowing equal access and full free speech. We didn't want to delete anything like some of the antisites did of LDS posters, so even the nasty stuff was allowed to stand, we just pulled it out into another forum as well as disciplined the poster...but they got their reward because their nastiness was still seen (vulgarity, porn, temple content was deleted). There was very little reason for changing of any behaviour, a suspension for a short time and they would be back and if they actually got banned, well even then their posts stayed up to be seen.

Add to that while there were LDS who were just as nasty as most of the critics (we did get a few nonLDS that were obviously just trolls and outweigh anything anyone else did, LDS or not, overall LDS were not as likely to be due to just their use of language and the fact they were on the defensive, rather than offensive most of the time. We tried to deal with this by tightening up the civility rules, but that apparently made it too boring and way too time consuming to moderate as well. LDS got tired and moved on, critics felt like we were being overprotective of LDS and LDS felt like we were being overprotected of nonLDS...

In essence, if you want to establish a vibrant message board centred mainly on one belief system, you have to make those believers (whether LDS, Buddhist, atheists or whatever) a protected species to at least some extent or they get tired of being under fire all the time. I am hoping the World Table will be able to get past that because it just won't be one belief system, everyone must expose what their claimed belief system is (and therefore opens oneself up to double standard arguments) and with the rating system, it's not just the mods having to decide, the board is helping decide who goes and who stays.

Calmoriah has given a very good explanation of the matter as I see it.

I would add that many if not most of the LDS migrated over to the FAIR board, which evolved into this board after FAIR divested. Some of the critics came as well, but when the behavior they had shown on ZLMB was not tolerated, some of them found a home on Mormon Discussions. Then, it became a tale of two boards.

I too have high hopes for the World Table for the reasons cal has given.
