Location Of Ten Tribes

Jim, have you read our Standard Works yet?

Yes, but one needs to consider everything taught by the Mormon Church.

"And now I am prepared to say by the authority of Jesus Christ, that not many years

shall pass away before the United States shall present such a scene of bloodshed

as has not a parallel in the history of our nation; pestilence, hail, famine, and

earthquake will sweep the wicked of this generation from off the face of the land, to

open and prepare the way for the return of the lost tribes of Israel from the north

country" ([signed] JOSEPH SMITH, JUN, History of the Church, volume 1).

The book "The Coming of the Lord" expounds on this teaching and others.

Yes,

Thanks,

Jim

Somehow I doubt it, as what you mentioned in your previous post is a prominent part of the very D&C section under discussion in this thread.

Verily , verily I await the coverage by CNN of the return of the ten tribes .If CNN is still in business when it happens, the internet will be all atwitter .

Yeah, that twitter is going to take over everything!

Impossible, they are Thin Lizzy fans, though you Canadians might have perfected the passive aggressive art of inviting peopleto BBQs with music they loathe.

No, the guests have to chip the ice off the barbie first! No time for music!

Sometime decades ago I remember reading where some Mormon scholars sent out a poll, to determine what theory as to the location of the ten tribes was held to be the most correct by the membership. The result had been the belief that they had been absorbed by Europe and Russia. This then prompted a response from the First Presidency stating this was incorrect and the tribes were gathered in one place and knew who they were. Unfortunately, I can't find that First Presidency declaration and wonder if anyone has a cite. Also am curious as to current speculation on the subject, my own being somewhat Battlestar Galactic related.

They will come from the North...I live near Atlanta, so it could almost anywhere from my standpoint.

Lol...I grew up in California and had grandparents in Utah...I seriouly thought my grandparents lived "back east".

To anyone else, "back east" would have meant the east coast, but to me, anything to the east of California was "back east".

Well at least you got the direction right, it drives me nuts when people talk of going south as up.

Davis Bitton mentioned an interesting tradition about the Lost Ten Tribes in his book Images of the Prophet Joseph Smith (since updated and republished as Knowing Brother Joseph Again: Perceptions and Perspectives):

One question of special interest to many Mormons was the location of the Lost Tribes of Israel, who, as part of the winding-up scene, were expected to return. What had Joseph to say on this subject? In 1884 Abraham H. Cannon noted in his diary that he had called upon Eliza R. Snow, who said she had heard Joseph Smith say, "When the ten tribes were taken away, the earth was divided, so that they occupy a separate planet from this." Martha Cox heard the same story from her father, who told her that the Prophet had said to him "that at the north pole the earth is convex or cup shaped with the deepest sea resting there. The planet that belonged to that part of the world would in time return to its place, strike the earth at that part, completing the sphere." All of which led Eliza R. Snow to compose a hymn, three stanzas of which follow:

Thou, earth, wast once a glorious sphere

Of noble magnitude,

And didst with majesty appear,

Among the worlds of God.

But thy dimensions have been torn

Asunder, piece by piece,

And each dismembered fragment borne

Abroad to distant space...

And when the Lord saw fit to hid

The "Ten Lost Tribes" away,

Thou, earth, wast severed to provide

The orb on which they stay.

The whole "doctrine," besides resting on the recollection of Eliza Snow and Martha Cox, was found in the family tradition of Patriarch Homer M. Brown, who in 1924 told in lavish detail of a conversation between his grandfather, Benjamin Brown, and the Prophet. (Davis Bitton,
Images of the Prophet Joseph Smith
[salt Lake City: Aspen Books, 1996], 90-91).

Bitton further notes that "Israel Call, son of Anson, wrote that he heard his father say 'on a number of occasions that the Prophet told him in company with others that the ten tribes were on a portion of this earth that had been taken away." Bathsheba W. Smith stated, "I heard [Joseph Smith] say, 'Peradventure, the Ten Tribes were not on this globe, but a portion of the earth had cleaved off with them and went flying into space" (see Bitton, Images, 103n33, 103n34).

If the "Giant Impact Hypothesis" of the moon's formation is correct, I think we can safely conclude that the Lost Ten Tribes = the Quaker moon-men ;)

Talk about 6 degrees of separation! My mailman heard from his cousin who was friends with a reporter who knew Donald Trump had once said to his maid ...

we shall just wait and see....

We already have seen. America has been to the North Pole in submarines. Russia, has been to the sea floor directly under the ice of the North Pole. The Russians even planted a flag on the sea floor of the North Pole to vie for a claim to the region for oil exploration and exploitation.

Somehow I don't think they are there but it might be there landing zone.

There is nothing under the ice of the North Pole but the Arctic Ocean and the sea floor.

That's what "they" want you to think. Maps are no help here, since the cartographers are only recording what they see

The Arctic ocean is actually the shallowest, by far, of the five oceans, not the deepest. There goes Brother Joseph, fantasizing again. Somewhere I read that JS also said that the returning segment of the earth with the city of Enoch will be rejoined where it departed, the gulf of Mexico....

This is why people also believe that the Ten Tribes are scattered all over the earth, or as the scriptures say 'four quarters of the earth' I don't believe in any of these theories that they are still around in one body

Just wait and see...

There is nothing to wait for there, except maybe the possibility of the highway rising from the deep. But, in order to get to that highway the ice would have to melt or they would be stopped by nearly impassible glaciers. The phrase "north countries" also does not refer to the North Pole. Have you checked the context of Doctrine and Covenants 133? One understanding from the context is that these people do not even know who they are anymore. There is nothing there that would imply that they live in some hidden location at the North Pole or under the arctic ice, or in the middle of some hidden realm under the earth and Arctic ocean.

I do not think any highway is going to rise up out of the ocean. Do we not now have plenty of highways? Highways for autos crisscross virtually every country in the world. Highways in the form of airplane routes circle our globe. There are routes of one kind or another wherein one can reach Church headquarters and virtually any temple anywhere and from anywhere.

I agree, I do not see anything to imply some secret location.

The lost tribes are referred to as being separate from everyone else who have been scattered to the four corners of the earth. They are in a specific location called the north countries which seems pparent from reading the scriptures that it is not part of the four corners of the earth.

11 And then also cometh the Jerusalem of old; and the inhabitants thereof, blessed are they, for they have been washed in the blood of the Lamb; and they are they who were scattered and gathered in from the four quarters of the earth, and from the north countries, and are partakers of the fulfilling of the covenant which God made with their father, Abraham.
