11 And then also cometh the Jerusalem of old; and the inhabitants thereof, blessed are they, for they have been washed in the blood of the Lamb; and they are they who were scattered and gathered in from the four quarters of the earth, and from the north countries, and are partakers of the fulfilling of the covenant which God made with their father, Abraham.

interesting, thank you!

Hey if the Lamanites can be of the tribe of Ephraim, who's to say the Inuits are not some other tribe? I mean do we say they are Lamanites? While we are in total speculation mode we might as well have some fun with it.

8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall return thither. (Jeremiah 31:8)

26 And they who are in the north countries shall come in remembrance before the Lord; and their prophets shall hear his voice, and shall no longer stay themselves; and they shall smite the rocks, and the ice shall flow down at their presence.

27 And an highway shall be cast up in the midst of the great deep.

28 Their enemies shall become a prey unto them,

29 And in the barren deserts there shall come forth pools of living water; and the parched ground shall no longer be a thirsty land.

30 And they shall bring forth their rich treasures unto the children of Ephraim, my servants.

31 And the boundaries of the everlasting hills shall tremble at their presence.

32 And there shall they fall down and be crowned with glory, even in Zion, by the hands of the servants of the Lord, even the children of Ephraim.

33 And they shall be filled with songs of everlasting joy.

34 Behold, this is the blessing of the everlasting God upon the tribes of Israel, and the richer blessing upon the head of Ephraim and his fellows.

To me, this sounds like the trek west and settling the SL valley. You have people coming out of the North- Scandinavia, British Isles- taking ships, a "highway" across the sea. You have the episode where the Saints were halted in Buffalo because of ice in the harbor- which broke up upon them praying for it to do so ( pp 294-98) http://mormonhistori.../InlandSeas.pdf

For that matter, the "great deep" could be Lake Erie itself and the highway could be the path through the ice.

To me the rest is just about the trek West. An incredible prophecy no doubt , but I don't think has anything to do with the location of the Ten Tribes. But what do I know??? Not much

I dont think the lost ten tribes are on the outside surface of the earth. To me the scriptures maintain 2 locations for the tribes- 1. the four corners of the earth which represents the entire exterior of the topography of the globe, and- 2. The north countries, a separate land not part of any exterior part of the globe.

The lost tribes are referred to as being separate from everyone else who have been scattered to the four corners of the earth. They are in a specific location called the north countries which seems pparent from reading the scriptures that it is not part of the four corners of the earth.

You are aware that the four corners of the earth are the four cardinal directions (one of which is north), aren't you? By the way, check one of definitions of "north country" in a good Bible Dictionary. Additionally, the people of Nineveh were said to be coming from the north countries in the Bible. The reason for that was because it was easier to take the highway system from Nineveh and come down to Palestine from Damascus.

The Apocrypha and other sources say that the tribes migrated along the River Euphrates and into a region called Arsareth. Such a path would take them into Asia Minor and up into central Europe from there. Here is a map (the only alterations to the map is the addition of the red START HERE text and coloring the waters blue) that appeared in an old book (the title of which escapes me at the moment), and which also later appeared in a book by an LDS writer (I only recall the last name of the author being Anderson but not the title at the moment):

ltmap4.jpg

Notice where this map locates Arsareth. There is nothing in scripture or even Apocryphal and Pseudepigraphic writings that states that they went to the North Pole or traveled a glacier to get to the North Pole. Early intent to be isolated does not mean that this intent held good forever and remains so today. Look at Israel's history. Look at the same history in the Book of Mormon. It is logical to assume that they had the same problems and tendencies as the other broken off branch of Israel and completely forgot their original identity over time.

Its either that or a reference to global warming and climate change :-)

There is an old fella in our stake that comes from the tribe fo Dan, he's from England and has lived there his whole life, except for 40 years living here. I would venture to say that most of us are from Ephriam and I have never lived anyone but here in Canada with a brief stint in Los Angeles

I do not think any highway is going to rise up out of the ocean. Do we not now have plenty of highways? Highways for autos crisscross virtually every country in the world. Highways in the form of airplane routes circle our globe. There are routes of one kind or another wherein one can reach Church headquarters and virtually any temple anywhere and from anywhere.

I agree, I do not see anything to imply some secret location.

The term "the deep" most often refers to the waters of an ocean in scripture, possibly inferring the rising of a land bridge from the midst of an ocean. However, there is nothing that would imply the ten tribes living in a secret location in the middle of the earth, at the bottom of the Arctic under some 3-plus miles of water, in a body currently, or even at the North Pole, as you seem to agree about.

I knew someone who was assigned to the lineage of Asher. He was from Germany, if I recall correctly. After the Church went into Russia a number of people's patriarchal blessings had various of the ten tribes of Israel given as their lineages. I had heard about this from missionaries who were serving in the region, who were quite excited about that.

this is the thing. The living reality is people are from all kinds of tribes and live wherever and not on a knob on the earth or coming out of the sea or any other goofy theories

There is a faith promoting prophecy for my region that has the 10 tribes using the Cardston temple on their way down from the north. ( the ice will flow down at their presence )

But (presumably since that prophecy was made) there have been seven other temples constructed in Canada with an additional one announced. Will they use those as well?

I hope not! I don't have a ton of extra pillows, bedsheets and peanut butter sandwiches for their journey!

James also wrote his epistle and addressed it to the twelve tribes scattered abroad. (James 1:1). But, yeah, the tribes are scattered around Europe, which qualifies for north countries in relative direction to Palestine.

So, when the Lord speaks and says he will command the great deep to retreat back to the north countries and there will be no more islands, where is he meaning? That he is going to cause the oceans to retreat to Europe???

Symbolic language? Like the Earth becoming a "sea of glass" and a urim and thumim? BORING! I want great mountains, rivers and small streams to give variety to the face of the earth, etc. So, symbolic is what it is.

If there is any literal, that is to say physical, component to the return of the missing ten tribes, it must be some future movement of peoples from the "north countries" to a southern clime where the headquarters of "Zion" is established. And that would be caused by climate change bringing on another ice age, thus ice flowing down before them, if they are in retreat, which they would be before the advancing ice cap of another ice age....

Everyone please read 3 Nephi 16. The lost 10 tribes have their own prophets, scriptures, and even their own visitation of Jesus Christ. They are separated from the rest of the world to come forth once the New Jerusalem is built from the north.

Some of which comes to us in the form of myth and legend and some of which is yet to come some way or another.

That map is bogus and is mere speculation. God separated the 10 tribes from the rest of the world because he didn't wan their blood to mix with Gentile blood.

You have evidence to support this.

Who made the map? And my evidence is found in the scriptures. Read 3 Nephi 16. Jesus Christ himself said that the 10 tribes will have their own scriptures, own prophets, and own visitation of him. If your map is true then where are their prophets? Where are their scriptures? and Christ's visitation. Christ manifested himself unto all of Israel. His ministry among the Jews(Judah), He visited the tribe of Joseph in America after his crucifiction, then he told the Nephites in 3 Nephi 16 he needs to go and visit the lost tribes so they also can hear his voice also. Christ did not visit Europe and why? Because Europe is all Gentile nations.
