Duncan Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 In our ward council one of the Bishopric mentioned that now the Church is having these moving assesment sheets that need to be completed by the EQ, HP or RS. So, basically if you need the Church's help in moving one of these auxillaries would come into your place and assess your need, report it back to the ward council and they can say what they will or won't help out on. So, the Church doesn't want to do everything for you if you are capable of doing it yourself. Has anyone heard of these assesment sheets before?
Saints Alive Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 It's news to me. Not sure I like it to be honest. 1
volgadon Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Never heard of it before, and it sounds ridiculous, to be honest. 1
bluebell Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I've never heard of that before. I don't see the point unless a ward was having a lot of issues with people taking advantage of moving help. In that kind of a situation, it sounds like a good idea, but not something that would need to be done everywhere. 1
Duncan Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 hmmmmm, this smells of a local innovation. Even my Stake clerk bro hasn't heard of this before! I don't think our ward has a problem with moving moochers, I am always out to help someone move in and out. I can only recall one bad move in recent years, 6 hours long and nothing was packed and they could afford prof. movers but did not for whatever reason.
Calm Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) I could see if it made it clear that people would have to be packed up prior to the EQ or others arriving. I've heard of too many expecting the EQ to even bring the boxes and not doing anything prior to their arrival.Haven't heard of it though. There could be a liability issue as well. Anyone try and sue the Church for damages due to moving help? How tacky would that be?No hits on lds.org or goggle. Edited January 9, 2013 by calmoriah

I had a friend who moved a girl in our ward once and he accidentally dropped her piano and broke the leg off...but what can be done about it?

I wouldn't be opposed to a liability waver for those requesting assistance, might not be a bad idea for those giving it either. 2

Popular Post The Nehor Posted January 9, 2013 Popular Post Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) I now have the personal policy of walking off from a moving assignment if they have nothing or less then half of their stuff in boxes. It saves a lot of aggravation. Edited January 9, 2013 by The Nehor 6

Senator Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Haven't heard of it. But it actually sounds like a good idea to me. The RS could stand to employ something similar in regards to providing funeral meals! 1

Tacenda Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 My sister who is inactive and her husband Catholic were the recipient of some good old fashioned proselytizing through service. A childhood neighbor recruited his many ward members to help them move out of a neighbohood out of state. My sister had three young children at the time. She didn't ask for help but the old neighbor insisted they help. My sister had been inactive since a teenager so she was taken aback by the swiftness and manner that they moved her. She was stunned but sadly it wasn't a good experience for her. Sketchy details but I think some items were lost or she couldn't figure out what was where or something. And she is a very gracious person so don't get me wrong. But in this incident it would have helped to have what the OP is talking about. She probably would have declined and it would have avoided the situation.
Saints Alive Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Haven't heard of it. But it actually sounds like a good idea to me. The RS could stand to employ something similar in regards to providing funeral meals! Funeral meals aren't nearly the headache moves are, atleast not in my experience. 1
DavidB Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) Nehor and Ducan,Not all of us have super fast connections, as a favor to those with slow connections would you please delete the huge pictures from each of your posts? Edited January 9, 2013 by DavidB 1
DavidB Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Ducan, I would say it is a local thing. I have seen other wards do similar. It is one to ask for help "moving" items from the living quarters to the moving truck, it is quite another and terrribly inconsiderate and down right rude to expect everyone else to do all the prep and initial packing for you.
cinepro Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) Most of the moves I've helped out on haven't been too bad. There have even been a few where too many Elders showed up and there just wasn't enough for us to do.The worst nightmare was when we got an email that a family in our ward, who had a pretty big house, had to move. On Friday. And the email was sent on Thursday. So everyone who could showed up and helped them pack up their big house of stuff and move into a rental all in one day. Tacenda Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) The worst for me was cleaning two dead mice out of bowls in the kitchen cupboard and mice feces from behind a W/D. I was in the RS presidency and we got to help move a large family and clean their home, yea... Edited January 9, 2013 by Tacenda 1
Senator Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) Funeral meals aren't nearly the headache moves are, atleast not in my experience.Mine neither, since I've never had to provide a funeral meal. But I take my reference from my former RS pres. sister, who provided meals for 20+ funerals during her two year term. It was quite a headache and agitation for her. Edited January 9, 2013 by Senator

Calm Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 The RS could stand to employ something similar in regards to providing funeral meals!Disagree, providing funeral meals is about showing one is there for the family, not saving them money. 2

I was in the RS presidency and we got to help move a large family and clean their home, yea...My grandmother would just poison mice so they supposedly would go outside to die, too fastidious to use traps.Which meant since I was the one in the family who would volunteer to go clean her house, I got to scrap off the dried up skin and bones out of containers, out of dark corners, etc. Loads of fun, but I never complain about having to use traps anymore though I hate it when they are caught live...let one go once and ended up with half a dozen more in the house so don't do that anymore. Hate putting them out their misery though...what is the kindest way, anyone know? If only they weren't dirty and grew in population so quickly, I wouldn't mind sharing my house with them and would put out some food like birds. Edited January 9, 2013 by calmoriah
