I will,I will ! I even have the scythe !

However,I will need a notarized statement from you to the effect that I am just following orders. You know, to avoid being stoned or hung by relatives.

I put traditional LDS.....with two addendums. I want to be buried barefoot. You can put the slippers beside my feet....but not on them. I hate shoes now and I don't want to have to kick them off when I'm resurrected. So this is insurance. And I want something silly/artsy to happen at my funeral, like throwing paint at my coffin instead of dirt. Next to that, I don't care. I'm dead, you do whatever you want.

With luv,

BD

Well our remains belong to the living so it is their decision.

As a veteran. My wife and I can be buried in a National Cemetery at no cost to our surviving spouse, or family, outside of the casket or earn. The VA plays Taps, the flag is presented, and if anyone wants to they can give a short speech. That is all the ceremony either of us wants.

I want my flowers while I can still smell them.

Nathair has provided some chuckles in this thread... I love the Grim Reaper...

But in my post on page 1, I mentioned how mortuary costs for a traditional funeral using their services have gone up... and reported that I felt fortunate that I had all my costs taken care of for just the bare basics on a pre-paid basis. Now if I fall over tomorrow my family does not have to be concerned about any arrangements, what I want, costs, etc etc. It's taken care of...

Along this same type of thing, I also want to encourage everyone, if you have not already done so, to look into an Advance Directive for Health Care. Doing so will establish a "representative" to speak for you and insist upon your wishes if you are unable to do so. I have personal experience with this... both my husband and I had advance directives which are legal documents... he unexpectedly required surgery. Though the surgery itself was successful, complications arose which sent him to intensive care for 9 days... finally after much effort it became apparent that he was not going to recover. A decision had to be made as to what to do... but I didn't have to make that decision on my own... I had his written wishes about what HE wanted done or not done... I followed those wishes for him... the result was, as you know, that he did not return home and I've been widowed for 14 years. The pain of loss was eased somewhat because I know I carried out his wishes. That's why I encourage everyone to consider an Advance Directive...

While my first post in this thread was serious, inspired by my belief in the importance of the ancient ways of our ancestors, I do believe that a sense of humor is valuable for approaching death in a healthy way. To that end, I offer this:

Reminds me a bit of the " New Orleans Style " funeral procession where the start is a slow lament and then it changes to a quick joyful tempo.

Yes... I believe it is Pete Foutain that played "Just a Walk With Thee" in New Orleans style... After a business trip to Houston, my husband and I flew over to New Orleans for a couple days... stayed in Marriott Hotel in the French Quarter, which was fun and fascinating in the daytime, but became sort of sleazy at night with girlee shows etc and "barkers" outside calling for customers to come in... we did go to Preservation Hall and heard some wonderful jazz...

We had the best time during the day, enjoying sightseeing in a horse-drawn carriage, and walking around Jackson Square... a street artist drew our portrait in pastel which now hangs in my master bedroom... The artist was Pershing Lee, 1979... what memories I have...

I was talking to my sister this morning... though she is 2500 miles from me, we talk almost every day... and this morning we were saying that we can't believe we are in the closing years of our lives. Doesn't seem possible because our spirits still feel like when we were in our prime. For me, I'd say that was in my mid-40's. The years, they do go fast...

After reading Orson Scott Card's Speaker for the Dead, I've often thought that would be nice to have.

I would hate this. I spent a good part of my life covering up my secrets. Why in the world would I want someone to blab on about them once I am dead. That reminds me.....I need to make sure my mission journal burns before I die.

My second choice. (Not intended to be humorous.)

Compared to the cost of a traditional LDS funeral, this type must really set one back a bunch, I mean the cost of the shields alone...

I wonder why the notation on this thread as to the latest post ,indicates that the post was made 2 weeks ago. In the thread itself the latest post date is correct but not on the forum overview. Is this done only with "poll" type threads ? Is this a glitch? How can I notify the mods re this 'bug' ?

Posted (edited)

It does it on all polls, shows the first post, not the last. I wonder if there is a switch set wrong somewhere. Easiest way to report it is to use the report function and use the two current polls as examples.

It occurs to me that in the past when someone voted but did not post it would make it appear as if the last post was just posted. Mods may have the option to have the date tied to the first vote or the last vote and choose the first one so that people don't keep clicking on the last post expecting something new.

I don't care at all what people do after I pass on. It will be over here for me. I am anxious to meet Heavenly Father and those who inhabit the after life.

I've never understood hillside cemeteries, grave yard requited.,

I've never been to an LDS funeral, so I don't know… I want my family to do what makes them feel better, and then I want to be cremated.

Hello W2K...

An LDS funeral is no different in general or content than a non-LDS funeral... what is different or specific is whoever gives the eulogy will probably speak from an LDS point of view so what is said may seem a little strange to non-LDS. I've been to two funerals that included many non-LDS in attendance where the speakers spoke without preaching a sermon, yet not shying away from a particular gospel principle or terminology, i.e., spirit world, eternal companions or family, etc.

Cremation and "open urn" service, so everyone can look at the ashes. :D

Failing that, cremation, service, and let the family do what they choose with the ashes (I don't really care if they're buried or not).
