Well, so far, none have been found to be born that way. And if they were, self identification occurs nonetheless just a heterosexuals find themselves suddenly to be attracted to the opposite sex as they mature. Many homosexuals are encouraged by predatory recruitment efforts as well. But in the LDS sense, when it comes to overcoming this problem, self identification occurs when such a one begins to see themselves mainly as a different kind sexual being rather than as a whole person. In other words, they do the opposite of admitting they have a problem and trying to correct it or live according to the commandments.

You do realize that no heterosexuals have been found to be born that was as well. There is no heterosexual gene. Yet there are millions of people who feel they are heterosexual and are truely not attracted to the same gender.

As far as recruitment goes, there is far more heterosexual recruitement going on. Little boys start life by thinking that girls have cooties and want nothing to do with icky girls. But through careful doctrination by churches, images they see on television, movies and books, they are carefully recruited into the heterosexual lifestyle.

So what do you think? Do you really believe that your arguments have validity? Even the churches official position has evolved into a much more realistic view of homosexuality.

Have you never considered the plumbing? And what if homosexuality determined to be genetic? At best, it is an abberation as such cannot reproduce.

As far as recruitment goes

Besides having witnessed it first hand on multiple occasions, to wit:

While gay activists usually deny that they want to indoctrinate children, said Villarreal, “let’s face it—that’s a lie.” “We want educators to teach future generations of children to accept queer sexuality. In fact, our very future depends on it,” he wrote.

Villarreal pointed to the tactics of a gay activist group FCKH8, which fought a recent Tennessee bill prohibiting classroom discussion of homosexuality in grade school by “hir[ing]some little girls to drop F-bombs” in their controversial online ad campaign, and handing out gay paraphernalia to schoolchildren. “Recruiting children? You bet we are,” he said.

“Why would we push anti-bullying programs or social studies classes that teach kids about the historical contributions of famous queers unless we wanted to deliberately educate children to accept queer sexuality as normal?”

In fact, Villarreal said that his dream of increasing not only the acceptance, but the future practice of homosexuality among youngsters was common among those in the gay lobby.

I and a lot of other people want to indoctrinate, recruit, teach, and expose children to queer sexuality AND THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT,” he wrote.

Remember, Prop 8 passed along age lines with the very old voting largely in favor of it. The younger generation doesn’t fear homosexuality as much because they’re exposed to fags on TV, online, and at school. And I don’t know a single lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender person who wants that to stop. I for one certainly want tons of school children to learn that it’s OK to be gay, that people of the same sex should be allowed to legally marry each other, and that anyone can kiss a person of the same sex without feeling like a freak.

Of course all this has been known for decades, but suppressed by the media and those sympathetic to PC or who find it too difficult to face the facts. This view is the norm in the homosexual counter-culture but you won't hear it from their emissaries; some of whom post here. Supporters of Planned Parenthood are also supporting the above referenced agenda through it's international organization.

By providing an improper as well as a less than ideal example to others.

LOL if that is the criteria, we should really reconsider allowing straight marriages

This is a bunch of rubbish with absolutely no basis of fact other than antidotal opinions. I have never met a gay man that has said the reason he is gay is because he was recruited to the cause. It is just laughable. I certainly was recruited to be straight by the church, society and peer pressure. Despite all of that, I knew I was gay since I was 12. Until you can provide any scientific studies that have shown recruitment as even a minor reason why men become gay, then it is just propaganda by people who want to rationalize the reason being gay exists as it has throughout all of human history. Come on Space, this kind of dialogue complete distorts reality in order to fit the antigay agenda.

If you want to make such a claim, show us a study done by credible professionals.

That doesn't sound like recruitment to me. It sounds more like let's please teach school children that it is ok to be gay so that homosexuals can live without fear and with equal rights. Recruitment would be more like sending 50,000 volunteers door to door asking to people to become gay.

I'm not sure about you, but my sexuality could not be changed by any amount of recruiting. I never made a decision to be straight. I just am straight and that will never change. What has changed is my understanding and acceptance of homosexuality. I consider myself a better person for it and have made some great friends and repaired old relationships as my thought process evolved.

Yes, SJ, that's a very good point.

I looked at this thread last night and when I read that post, I wanted to say, "there is nothing wrong with being gay". There isn't. But, I knew that was probably not going to be well received here, so I didn't. But, since you made that very nice post, I will go ahead and be brave enough to say it. There is nothing wrong with being gay. People are born that way. It is not a sin. Until this society finally accepts that, harm will continue to be perpetrated on good people.

You're right. It's not a sin to have those feelings and attractions. But it's contrary to God's plan for the eternal destiny of His children. That much is clear, as per the most recent revelation from Jesus Christ, The Family: A Proclamation to the World. At least, that's what I believe.

And, I respectfully disagree.

Fair enough. :) I agree that the distinction needs to be more clearly made. The distinction being that in order to declare something a sin, it has to involve an action on someone's part.

Simply being inclined towards something is not sinful in and of itself. I do believe that great progress regarding that distinction has been made recently. I've read several things from the Church emphasizing just such things.

It's vital for those not of our faith to understand our position on the matter is regarding actions. Although there is something to be said of the sin that results when you lust after something in your heart.

Regardless, it's a distinction that I'm extremely grateful is being clarified, so that there can be no misunderstanding as to where we are on the position of attraction to one's own gender. :)

I agree that progress has been made and I'm glad to see it. I personally don't believe that homosexuality is a sin but I also don't expect the LDS Church to conform to my opinion. As long as everyone communicates respectfully and allows others the freedom of their own beliefs I'm happy.

The Deseret News did publish an article on it: http://www.deseretne...ide-parade.html

I find it interesting there are no comments in the article about those aspects of the parade that were less than family friendly. If you are wondering what I mean then you can google "utah gay pride parade 2012" and then click on images.

I would not want my kids to see men or women dressed only in skimpy underwear, just funny that way.

I am not sure of your own personal faith or believing level in connection with the church, so I would like to ask you on what basis do you feel that homosexuality is not a sin? Are you a believing LDS that just does not accept that teaching, a former believing LDS, or neither?

My own basis of belief is the Old Testament teachings and the New Testament teachings, which have been reaffirmed by living prophets.

I agree it's a somewhat important distinction (between "being" and "acting"), and I am glad it's being made, by the church and others. That's a step in the right direction.

I don't believe homosexuality (being or acting) is a sin. I believe in God and I am religiously spiritual :) but I do not believe that, much of what is in the O.T., is for our day. Jesus never said anything, himself, about homosexuality, and I believe the taboos against it, in the O.T. were mainly superstitions and not really from God.

I am formerly LDS. Still a member of record, but inactive. I wouldn't say "non-believing", exactly, as I still hold some LDS beliefs, and still believe the Book of Mormon was somewhat inspired.

Thanks for sharing with us your personal opinion. I won't ask for a CFR, because it is just your opinion.

Now, I think that heterosexual attraction is natural, and inherent in our very nature. This has been the case from the very beginning, even before TV, movies, and books. These things have only reflected the natural order of things, and it is only recently that we find movies, etc, attempting to make the homosexual lifestyle appear acceptable and normal.

I completely agree with you. Heterosexual attraction is natural, and inherent in our very nature. This has been the case from the very beginning, even before TV, movies, and books.

Homosexual attraction is natural, and inherent in our very nature as well. This has been the case from the very beginning, even before TV, movies, and books. There has not been a time in recorded history where homosexual behavior was not present.

Great point.

We seem to be in agreement. My point is regarding recruitment into the gay lifestyle, to expand that lifestyle into the general population, which is indeed a recent development. IOW, it is one thing to accept gays and another to accept that lifestyle as a social norm.

Perhaps an analogy is to force universities and schools to accept those who are mentally challenged (Down syndrome individuals) as professors for the sake of some misguided view of "equality". We accept Down's syndrome as a reality, we make accommodations, but it is not "normal", and we do not re-design our entire social structure around it.

Homosexuality is a condition, and even treatable. It is not the normal condition for humans.

Do you have absolutely any proof for any of these statements you are making? Do you think it takes a majority of the population before you call something normal? You acknowledge that being gay has existed since the beginning of recorded history. It seems like a normal condition of mankind to me. The only thing that is new is that gays are tired of being criminalized and treated unequally by their straight counterparts. They are tired of being discriminated against just because they don't have the same sexual orientation as straight people. Nothing new here except that it is now out in the open rather than behind closed doors and not talked about. Not one gay person cares whether you "accept" their lifestyle. What they clearly expect is this country to do is to treat them equally under the law and you to support their equality under the laws.

If you really feel that gays are recruiting into their lifestyle straight people, please give some evidence of that rather than just making unsupported blanket statements. Just how does one go about recruiting someone into being gay. If someone approached you and asked if you too wanted to be gay, would it turn you gay? Would you suddenly loose your attraction to the opposite sex?

I certainly will acknowledge that a huge awareness of the gay population that has always lived amongst us in society has occurred. Bringing this out in the open has also opened up peoples eyes. It is why the majority of Americans now realize that gays have been discriminated against and now support threating this segment of the population with equality under the laws. In many cases, they are willing to separate their religious beliefs with their belief that the country they live in is not a theocracy, but rather made up of all kinds of people with personal beliefs that may differ from theirs. But what binds us all together is that we believe in a society where everyone is treated equally under the law. Perhaps some day you too will choose to keep your own religious beliefs but still support equality for all Americans.

I disagree. Homosexual attraction isn't always a natural process, but in some cases a learned one. In prisons men will engage in homosexual practices because their libido is high and the constrictions are low. For some women the same sex attraction is due to some behavioral modification derived from a psychological hemorrhage from childhood, often connected to a male figure in their lives.

They are self evident. Down's syndrome is disfunctional, and that is self-evident. So is homosexuality.

Do you think it takes a majority of the population before you call something normal? You acknowledge that being gay has existed since the beginning of recorded history. It seems like a normal condition of mankind to me.

Down's synderome is likewise normal, according to your definition. But is is reasonable to conclude that it is dysfunctional for society.

I support equality under the law for all Americans, but reject giving a driver's license to the blind, and a marriage license to a SS couple. A license is not granted to everyone who applies for it if they do not fit the qualifications.
