Temple Rec. Spelling Mistakes?

I had my two interviews today. The bishopric member signed it and did what he had to do and now that I am home I notice he spelled my last name wrong, forgot to circle if I was a male or female, spelled our province wrong and didn't circle the year issued. I don't plan on going to the Temple this week but I would hate to bother him with it can I just fix them myself and move on with my life? He used my pen so it wouldn't look like I was changing anything to make it look like I lied my way through it all. By the way I am a dude so no question on that scene.

Circle the year issued, circle the M/F ,leave everything else alone, just like a misprinted stamp,it will be worth more that way.

circle it? uummm...yeah...oh well let's hope they don't notice it...well I mean if they can't tell I am a man then what can I tell you?! I mean them!

I would take it back to him. There is a carbon of the recommend. And that means it will be obvious you changed it. Better to do it the right, allbeit inconvenient, way.

You should get your name changed legally. It is obvious that God wants it to be spelled that way. B:)

They will circle the year at the Temple, but the name should be correct.

Of this I am sure...so don't go until you have it changed. The leadership is infallible.:help::rofl::crazy:

First of all you don't circle a year, you circle the month and write the year.

Second of all, you still have to get interviewed by the stake presidency. Tell them the bishop's counselor is a dufus and messed up and they will fix it.

As has been stated, you will have an interview with stake an I would have them make the correction, however it is important that the ward recommend book is accurate so it would be best if you went back to a member of the bishopric and had them correct it. These books to get audited and these errors may be spotted. It is better that they fix it for you now rather than have them be reprimanded by the stake clerk. I made lots of these errors and was always grateful when they were caught so I could fix them.

Honestly? It is extremely unlikely that this would be caught in any audit.

If he just goes to the stake, he will already be showing the stake that the mistake was made and any "reprimand" ("Hey Joe- your forgot to put the date on this recommend!") would hardly be worth worrying about. By going to the stake with the error, it is far more likely that the person who made the mistake will be reminded to be more careful than if one waits for the audit which may never happen.

Furthermore, the pink copy which is in the temple rec book- being the the second copy from the original white, going through to the yellow and then the pink, is quite likely to be incomplete anyway since there are so many layers to go through. Those copies are often pretty illegible anyway, and very light.

If I were the counselor or bishop who made the mistake I would rather get the "reprimand" than cause the member the trouble of coming back to see me just to fix my own stupid error. Counselors are more likely to do that because they generally sign recommends less often than bishops.

It's just no big deal. It is worth a reminder to be more careful at most.

My temple marriage certificate was misspelled and the marriage ended in divorce.

Condolences. That's sad, :( but remember: correlation does not equal causation. :)

I already went to the stake and my bro. is the stake clerk and all he said was "oh" but I corrected the male/female scenario....

Apparently you have never been audited.

Twice a year, that would make 10 times.

You are much more honest than me, I would just circle the correct date and sex without a second thought. As long as you are accurate i see no harm and no reason to bother the bishop or anyone else with those minor fixes.
