Awesome news! Congratulations! :P

Does that mean you have to publicly apologise for all the negative comments you wrote in the past, leading people away from the faith?

Haha, just pulling your leg! Welcome! I hope you make a smooth cultural and spiritual transition!

Welcome... sounds like you have a solid foundation... just keep in mind, the gospel may be perfect but we LDS are not always so great at living it.

from the beautiful central Oregon coast... GG (yesterday we had hail the size of peas which is still on the ground in shaded areas)

While I'm in relative shock about this news as your Catholic brother in Christ, I wish you the best in your spiritual journey since I do appreciate the positive aspects of the LDS faith. Good Luck.

Well, it's been a very long road, with much study and prayer, and for the past 2 weeks, I've been meeting with the missionaries (who were utterly surprised at how much I knew ;) ). They actually asked me if I would like to be baptized at our first meeting, and I will be baptized on Saturday at 11am, here in NYC.

Many people in the ward are fascinated by my story, coming from a very active Catholic background (Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Mass Coordinator, Catechist, Catholic theology and philosophy courses, etc), as well as my somewhat anti-Mormon ways in the past. While some critics claim that people study themselves out of the LDS Church, for me, I pretty much studied myself into it, in addition to simply asking God what to do, and receiving a witness of the Holy Ghost (that has gotten stronger more recently). I've pretty much read it all, from anti-Mormon books, articles, and websites, to pro-Mormon books, articles and websites. I've participated on this forum, LDS.net, and Catholic Answers Forum, and have paid attention to what current LDS and ex-LDS have had to say (I've been lurking a lot :P ) on various issues, especially those that went from LDS to Catholic and vice versa. This hasn't been an easy decision for me, and there will be many things that I will miss about Catholicism (though not necessarily doctrine-related), however I know that God is leading me to where the Truth is, and has been for some time now (even when I was an LDS critic on CAF  ).

Anyway, just wanted to share, and I'm VERY excited for the journey ahead.

Christ Knight,

Thank you for the update. It seemed like things were moving in that direction to me. I would be pleased and see it as a step in the right direction for many Christians to become LDS. I can't say that unfortunately, for one who has been Catholic.

Are you going to tell them at Catholic Answers? I fear you shouldn't. I don't have much confidence that they would be charitable about it. Do you? I am sorry for the mostly irrational malice toward Mormonism that I find difficult to understand. I don't see why most Catholics can't see that Mormonism is a more logical replacement for Rome, assuming it is decided to replace Rome, than any Protestant group out there. Anyway, thank you again for sharing and may God lead you back. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing any reflections on what has led to your decision as seems fitting to you disclose.

Sincerely,

Rory

Congrats! It is but the first step in a wonderful journey, the full ramifications of which will not be seen until the life to come (see 1 Cor 2:9).

For me, five years in a Catholic seminary studying theology and other topics (albeit, when after I joined the Church) and an Irish Catholic background. I know, to some degree, where you are coming from <g>

Hello Christknight,

FWIW and to be honest with you, I am shocked by this recent development.

Anyhooo, I wish you well as you (just like the rest of us) continue on our journeys.

Peace,

May you bring into our faith the deep reverence for symbolism, the appreciation of the aesthetic, the assurance of living miracles, and all the other beautiful truths of the Roman Catholic faith.

I treasure the former Pope's Gospel of Life as a welcome member of my personal library; I am inspired by the stories of the early Catholic martyrs (that we Mormons do not discuss enough) and will keep to my dying day a lovely candle with Christ's picture on it (unlit!) that was given to me by a devout Catholic many years ago.

I am currently halfway through reading Augustine's City of God, as well.

ChristKnight!

Where are you in NYC??????? My son is on a mission there. Wouldn't it be fun if he was one of your missionaries?????? Oh Wait. He's Spanish speaking. Well, I'd still love to know if you are in his area.

Congratulations on taking such a big step. You will bring much to your ward and stake!

Seashell, I'm in Manhattan, apparently the New York New York North mission. Let me know, maybe I met him (I've met a few other missionaries besides the ones that taught me).

You might be interested in a book written by a couple who were very active Catholics (she was a nun), and converted. The name of the book is Catholic Roots, Mormon Harvest by Eric and Marilyn Shuster. It is a very good and fair comparison of LDS and Catholic theology. You can visit their website at http://www.catholic2lds.com/

Thank you Mark, I actually already have that book (and have talked with Eric Shuster through email), as well as Shuster's Biblical Roots of Mormonism. :P

Thanks for the link. As a person interested in conversion stories that work both ways, this sounds like a good book to consider. :P

Nope. He's in the NYNY South Mission. So close, and yet so far. :P
