Temple recommends will only allow you access to some of the temple.  They don’t let people wander around, but direct anyone to the location they are meant to be in.

That's to bad. 😭 But i knew this. But it is unfortunate. It must be interesting to see the whole temple. Like ...when you're in a museum you can also watch the whole museum.

The best time to see a temple would be during an Open House when anyone can see most of the temple.  They have tours and some areas are roped off.

That must be so cool. I hope they also have that in the temple of Den Haag. I live 60 km away from there.

Your temple recommend gives you access I am guessing to the reception area and the baptismal area, but you wouldn’t be able to go where they do the endowments or sealings.

Yeah i figure that out. I can imagine that those sacret endowments are not for the curious naked eye to see. 👁

This might be one of the best ways to visualize what it looks like….

There was a better video of the model, I will try and find it later.

Oh my.....what looks that beautiful. Salt Lake City has for sure the most beautiful temple there is from the whole wide world. 🕍

Added:  probably the very best way for a typical member to have access to most of the temple is to be a temple worker.  I have never been one, so just guessing here.  I assume there are still restricted areas, at least in the largest temples.

Interesting thought. Access probably varies by duty. It’s been awhile but the only place I remember having access to that a regular patron would not was the room where we met every morning for announcements. I also visited the President and Matrons office when I first started but probably not off limits from patrons. I’m a rule follower so it never occurred to me to go on a walk about and look for secret rooms, lol.

One day Glenn Beck and his wife came to the temple while I was working. They had to check in at the front, like everyone else, but then they were hustled onto the elevator. Someone said it was for security reasons. Maybe they were given a separate place to dress, idk. I didn’t see them again since it was at the end of my shift, iirc.

Brother Dario:

I find your responses honest, faithful and so refreshing — the Church is better because you are part of it.  I wish you could somehow come to Salt Lake City in a few years’ time when the renovated Temple will be opened to the world prior to its re-dedication.

But no matter where the Temple is located though, the feeling I get when I am there reminds me of this old American hymn (see Ephesians 2:19):

It’s nothing to be shocked about. It might look a little silly to some because the stuff that gets worn over the clothing is somewhat unusual.  Used to be more so, but has been simplified for easier care.  It can be beautiful as well with everyone all in white, long sleeves, long dresses and of course long pants. Even shoes are white.  There has been only one nonwhite apparel, usually a brilliant green, an apron. The color effect can be stunning, especially in a temple that has dark wood walls.

Aawh thank you so much. It's a honor for me to read that. It gives me a big smile.

That would be amazing i would love that. It's to bad that i live so far away. Is it possible for me to fly to Utah and see the Temple spend the rest of the day there and then that same evening i fly back? What are the rules in the US about that?

Aawh nice i'm going to listen to that hymn. I'm really curious. Thank you so much for that link. It bound to be beautifull.

Sounds beautiful. You're now talking about the temple in Salt Lake City right? It sounds really romantic to me. As if you go back in time. The temple in Salt Lake City looks like a castle. It's really beautiful. The most beautiful i've seen so far.

With the open house you go with many other people.  It is basically taking a tour of it and thousands go through.  For the most part you go from room to room.

I highly discourage turning back around the same day.  Our trip to Hungary was 9 hours to Paris and then a couple of more to Hungary.  A trip from the Netherlands will be similar. It is no fun at all.  If you are going to travel that far at that expense, make it worth it and spend at leaat a week and see other things as well.

That's sounds like a really fun activity. That must be so special.

My trip will be a bit differend because Delta offers direct flights from Amsterdam to Salt Lake City. So i will not have a transfer like you had in Hungary. Yes it will be tough. But if i stay there 1 day i don't have the stress with booking a hotel. Btw...i also don't have a credit card only a debit card. And i know that most hotels ask for a credit card in the US. If it is allowed to go to Salt Lake City for 1 day i think i will do it that way. It's also less expensive.

I was under the impression that a cohabitating couple, whether same or different sex, wasn’t eligible for a temple recommend. I don’t want to pry into Dario’s personal situation, just wondering if something changed.

My guess is Dario has a limited use recommend for baptisms only. But the rules aren’t that different for those.

Nothing changed in this respect. No idea.

I do have a temple recommend though. Got that thing from Portugal.

Yes that's the exact recommend that i own. I can only baptize death people when i'm in the temple.

You're impression is not wrong. Just some leaders do not go by those rules. I know Dario also stated here once that he did not tell his bishop once. I do not know if that is still the case.

If you actually do decide to come, let me know and I may be able to hook you up with some free lodging.   I have relatives who live in Salt Lake.
