GoCeltics Posted February 18, 2024 Posted February 18, 2024 Hello. I think this may be the only place to introduce myself as I cannot post anywhere else. I'm Jeremy. I grew up in a Catholic household, but later in life, around the age of 29, I underwent adult baptism in another Christian denomination. I was drawn to their style of worship and teaching, particularly their sermon format. I'm interested in exploring the similarities and differences between our respective churches and eager to ask questions to learn more. In the past, missionaries would visit my home every year or so, but this practice ceased with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pyreaux Posted February 18, 2024 Posted February 18, 2024 (edited) Greetings. I don't know if style and format are exactly the strengths of Latter-day Saints. I personally prefer reverence and its meditative aspects, and its old school "funeral" music, while I understand those who think it's too sleepy and needs an update. The sermons could be more entertaining. But the Spirit is a still small voice... Edited February 18, 2024 by Pyreaux
rpn Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 You might be surprised by the information now available. For instance, in a couple of weeks (they are registering now) Roots Tech Conference will teach people how to find their ancestors. There are lots of non-members who learn how to do so. https://www.familysearch.org/en/blog/rootstech-2024-registration The Gospel Media and Gospel Library App has lots of video on various gospel subjects. During the last 10+ years the church has collected every document it could find about Joseph Smith and the Restoration and you can look at them at josephsmithpapers.org. And used that material to complete a modern history of the Church of Jesus Chrst of Latter-day Saints from 1820 to th 1950's. Saints, Vol 1-3 are out and we expect Vol 4 out this year some time. You can buy the books, but it is also online at https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/history/saints-v1?lang=eng The Encyclopedia of Mormonism (published some 30+ years ago by a secular press, now kept updated at eom.byu.edu And the first Sat and Sun in April will be General Conference where will will hear what Jesus Christ wants us to know now. Anyone can watch any of the five sessions at byu.tv or lds.org. And if you want to know where your assigned congregation is, input your address into "meetinghouse locator" in any search engine. It will give you the address and meeting times and the name of the Bishop. Visitors are welcome. (The Church is organized geographically so that everyone in the world, member or not, has a bishop with authority from Jesus Christ to help them.) Thank you for your interest. 2

Do you remember when the Celtics drafted Mel Counts in the first round after he won Olympic gold and set the Pac-8 record for career rebounds? Probably not. My first memory of the Celts. He came from Oregon State. And I got to know him in his 70's. He went to our church! I think of Bailey Howell, Sam Jones, Tom Sanders, Larry Siegfried, plus all the even bigger names. Its okay if you only came on board with Dave Cowens, or even Larry Legend. You're from Boston. Good for you! Dad loved the Sox too. A friend took him to Fenway in this century before he passed. Anyway that's why way out in Washington State, and now in Kansas, I still follow 'em, long after Dad has been gone. PS: But not the Patriots. We were '49ers all the way. Sorry. Heh. Welcome to the board!
