we are not ready to lose him

Perhaps you need prayers as well if he is ready, but you are not.

I am sorry you are having to struggle with this.  My dad died very unexpectedly and my mother had dementia, so I felt I had lost her years before, so this is not something I have had to endure.  I imagine it is one of the most difficult experiences in our mortal existence.

My exact circumstance Calm, my dad died of a heart attack suddenly. I will always, always feel guilty for not being available when my dad called me to ask if I could go be with my mom at the care center because he wasn't feeling well. I was sub'g at the school and had silenced my phone. My dad wouldn't call an ambulance but instead called my husband at work and my husband picked him up and drove him to the hospital, but my dad had waited far too long. On the way my husband called me and I had just got off of work and I raced to the hospital. I got there and my dad had just passed. I screamed so loud that I was put in a room by myself and it was one of the worst moments of my life.

And I also feel I lost my mom years earlier than her death, as well.

I'm so sorry that your dad is having these health problems @rodheadlee. I hope you get many more days or years with your dad. I regret not doing a few things with my mom and dad when they asked. My mom, before she developed full on Alzheimer's, would ask me to go through her cedar chest with me and take what I would like.

And my dad would ask if I wanted to watch a certain movie, usually John Wayne and I didn't.

These two things would have been so easy to do. I'm so glad you're with your dad now.

Thank you Tacenda and Calm. I watch TV with Dad all the time. I try to spend as much time with him as I can. I tell him what a Great Dad he has been,  always a gentleman, setting a good example for us.

Dad's doing ok but I almost killed him by giving him motrin. It's processed by the kidneys. I'll never offer medical advice again.
