I imagine that depends on the individual and is probably a mishmash of a bunch of reasons for some. Wanting to help the lgbt community, wanting to teach sex education in a very unorthodox way, wanting to wear a habit during a pub crawl, wanting revenge, fulfilling a religious kink, wanting catharsis, because their friends are doing it, and probably a bunch of others.

Remember most of the city now is Latino, and that means Catholic. I think a lot of our Latino folks, because they still live in their old country's culture, missed the whole LGBTQ+ movement, but now it seems everyone is riled up against it. This thing seems to be growing instead of calming down. 1

I think many vastly overestimate how much the Latino community cares about this petty culture war garbage. I really thought they'd focus more on the weirdos videoing themselves wandering into the pride section of stores and being outraged at clothing they would never buy and how its presence is grooming their children or something. Just in time for Pride Month. Fantastic. This could get interesting and horrible. After recent events the lgbtq community is more well armed than many of their opponents might think.

This thing seems to be growing instead of calming down. Mobilizations for peaceful protests are happening. Leaders in the Spanish Catholic community are all-in and are mobilizing folks. Bishop Barron and the Word on Fire are getting involved. Jewish groups have been reaching out. Catholic media and culture groups are ramping up. Even Protestant groups are reaching out to be part of a procession from the Cathedral of Los Angeles to Dodger's Stadium. I'm not sure what the scope will be, but I have no doubt that Latter-day Saints' participation will be most welcome. 4

The suggestion that the Latino community is riled up about this and is being alienated (unsubstantiated), that the community is hearing the news on this which is coming from only a few outlets (unsubstantiated), and that they care enough to do something about it (unsubstantiated). In fact Sunday I was speaking with a young LDS grad student at Claremont in Mormon Studies "Mestizo" as Navidad might call him, and he was talking about the clear differences between Spanish Wards and English Wards. He is of course, totally fluent in both languages and cultures. We are not immune from all this ... stuff... as well, and Anglos are not innocent perfect church members, when it comes to racism but largely totally ignorant when it happens. It's largely unconscious and seemingly invisible His dad was in the Stake Presidency of the Spanish Stake when we merged with them. Interesting talk. 3
