Temple Work

Once you get the name into family tree on the Church website how do you get the Temple work done? I have no TR. I used to reserve it, print it out and take it to the Temple and hand it to someone at the door. I also gave one to a friend and they did it.

You can ask people in your ward as well.  If you know someone going on a mission or getting married their families may be the best ones to ask right now.

Through 2019, I'd have people reserve names, hours after I posted them on FamilySearch. The work was often done within weeks.

We've put people into the temple system and we're still waiting for their work to be done some years later, covid besides

So when you put a name in your family tree that automatically goes into the main database? If you don't reserve it then someone else will do the temple work?

Yes, it automatically goes into the database, and somebody else can do the work.

It is better though to, if you or a family member can't go, ask a ward member to do that service.  It gives it a personal touch and connection, rather than some random person in Jakarta doing the baptism, Manhattan confirmation, San Paulo endowment, etc.

there's this family in our ward they have family names that the baptism and confirmation were done in like 1975 and then the endowment was done in 1998 and then the sealing is done in like 2019 and makes ya wonder!

For baptism, I would assume they want to show they lived till 8 years of age, endowment adulthood and sealing would need evidence of marriage, so it is reasonable if they are doing research, but not waiting until research is completed to have gaps.

I had an interesting experience that is kind of the opposite of what you tell about here.

I had done a fair amount of genealogical research, but hadn't done all that much temple work, except on the first three or four generations. There was plenty to do, since I was the first convert to the church in my rather extensive family tree -- except that a first cousin twice removed had married a member of the church (he never converted, himself). Along one particular family line, however, things suddenly heated up! It was down my French Canadian line, and around 1999 I had submitted a number of names and gone to the Seattle Temple to have the work done. This was before temple ordinance work was being done via the FamilySearch website, and so there was a fair amount of duplication going on, in general I guess. What I found later was that on some names it was my work at Seattle credited for one ordinance, but even though I had done the work in Seattle for another ordinance for the same ancestor, someone else (in fact, a few someone elses) had gotten there before me, and it was their work that got "credited", so to speak. So I did the baptism/confirmation for person A, but the initiatory got done by someone else, and the endowment by yet someone else, with parent/spouse sealings sometimes being completed by still others! And while I had gone for baptising person B, someone else in another temple had gotten there before me, though my initiatory got credited first.  And all this was occurring within weeks, sometimes days, of each other. It was as if everyone related to these people had suddenly gotten inspired to go do it, finally. And they were all in a big rush to get the work done. 

I enjoy thinking that this particular branch of the family had accepted the gospel in the sprit world, and then got a petition together to get their descendants inspired to get their temple work done for them.

Thank you . I'm between wards. I guess I had better do something about it. We live on a sailboat in Mexico, spend half of our time at my parents in So Cal and our mailbox is in another location. The mailbox is where they assigned us but it's 90 miles from either home 😦and we speak very little Spanish. I have procrastinated long enough.
