I wish that we could restore the original temple ceremony.  I don't like the changes that have occurred.  I feel like we have less than the fullness now.

If only you knew.

YHWH has changed them to be more scriptural, meaningful, and in accordance with Revelation. I find them to be on point, and representing the fullness of the gospel better than the Church has realized.

And thank goodness I am not asked to wear long, wool garments. Maybe  in the winter time I could handle that. And the one piece? Oh no. Would never, ever buy that! I find nothing holier about inconvenience and dehydration.

You are so dedicated and have deep feelings.  I wish you many good things in or out of the religion or any religion.  Have you thought about patiently going at it alone..that is no religion..but with prayer for direction?  This is how i had to do it.  All I can say is that it has been a growing  experience.  You need your own path..I realize that.  But know that I am here for you as others are. I have not been on the board much this summer.  I have been so disappointed lately as this church as a people.  Their fear of showing courage is disheartening to me.  Their faith astounding but the empathy for love of others is so lacking to me.

Edited to add:  This is not even close to the church that I grew up in...at least the church I thought I grew up in. I am at loss for words in the world of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Jeanne....you are so sweet and thoughtful!  I don't post much, but I do visit this board daily to see whats "shaking"!  I have always appreciated your point of view...and your thoughtfulness.  This topic has touched me very deeply.  I have struggled with the same family of issues that both you and Tacenda have.  I have longed to have the kind of spiritual and family connectedness I had when my wife and I first got married..and attended the "old 2nd Ward" in Independence, MO.   It was such a special Ward. We had incredible Leadership in the Ward and Stake. I felt that I was needed and wanted.  I felt at home.  Over the years...as the children came...change came.   I joined the USAF...more change.  Moved to Utah ..waaaay more change!   My bride and I have 23 grandkids now.....more change!   My work with the Railroad has just recently moved my Wife and I from Independence..back down to Fort Worth, TX...with just 3 1/2 yrs till retirement!!  I was seriously PO'd!!    We were separated from ALL our family....all our Grandbabies...all the hugs and kisses....all of the going to school and reading in their classes...all of the school carnivals....helping the Parents teach their kids how to drive....separated from EVERYTHING that I love!   I was beyond disheartened and saddened.

But, you know what happened?   We got here in late July....the very FIRST Sunday we attended...that afternoon the entire Bishopric came to visit us!  The next week the entire EQ Presidency came to visit us!  Two weeks later we were invited to a "get to know us" Social at the Bishops house.  I received texts and emails from members. I was contacted at work by fellow members who had heard we had moved in...just to introduce themselves and say hello.  The RS contacted my Wife.  She's been invited out to lunch.   We have already spoken in Church a couple of weeks ago.  We just received callings to serve yesterday.   Sacrament Meeting yesterday was incredible.  There wasn't the usual long line of children waiting....the testimonies borne were just what I needed.  There were several times when several minutes went by without someone rushing up seemingly to fill in the void...which I LOVED!  It provided time to think, ponder..and just let the spirit truly guide those who testified.  Nothing born out of habit.

My Savior knows me perfectly.  He knows what I needed.  He provided it!  He loves me!   I'm always reminded of Elder Anderson's talk entitled "It's True Isn't It?  What else Matters?"    I was so wrapped up in what I thought I was losing through separation...I had lost sight of what the Lord was preparing to give me through this "change" in our lives.  He knows what we need.

Jeanne/Tacenda….I want you both to know that you have a good friend here in Fort Worth Texas!  I pray for you both that you will be happy and healthy..and that God will continue to bless and keep you both in his good watch care!

You can't delete posts. You can edit them, and just delete the text, and put  "error" or "deleted" or something like that. To delete the quote point to the quote bar bolded text and hit <ctrl> button and right click to get drop down box and delete option.

Don't delete them, sweet quadruple message!! And lucky you and your wife that you live in such a friendly state, Texas! Yesterday our "home teachers", ok, ministering husband and wife team, came for a visit and gave a message. Which I loved! So maybe prayers are being answered. And also, he is a CES teacher at LDS Business College. And is teaching a class about every topic that started me on my faith crisis. His wife and he have lived throughout the United States, and they incidently brought up Texas as being sooo friendly! Yeah, so they want my husband and I to go to an adult class in a church nearby that is teaching topics in the Essays. And I was so nervous to talk about them, and how it started me on my way to having a transition of faith, they ensured me that I wasn't alone and the church is putting these classes out there to help people like me. So great step forward for the church. So I'm left to wonder if God did have a hand in it, through prayers. I'm trying to be positive and have more faith that this can even occur. Glad you checked in on the board Randy!

Another thread asked about upcoming changes, or topics in Gerneral Conference, so if I may, let me extend this a bit.

Every six months it makes perfect sense for Latter-Day Saints to speculate about upcoming topics. In keeping with that "tradition", what changes do any here foresee?

While each ponder how they would answer what might happen on a grand level, I would ask what is changing on the local level?

I have lived in the same home, my "final home", (I pray) for the past 41/2 years, yet I have been in four Wards, with three Bishoprics. This Sunday we were told that we would be having a special Stake Conference, on Oct 26th, and then a regular Stake Conference two weeks later. It is clear to all of us in the Stake, that both Stake boundaries and (probably) Ward boundaries will change; again. The building in which I meet is so close to the Stake Center, we have changed every single time the Stake has. These changes have brought about a lot of difficulties, the worst of which are those who have fallen through the cracks, or just thrown up their hands and given up.

The other change, that at first brought about much buzz, so for it, so (like me) cautiously optimistic, had to do with Priesthood Quorums. There was a time when two Priesthood Quorums shared in the responsibilities of the adult membership. As of late, our Elders Quorum President is showing signs of stress, often crying as he points out the difficulties he now faces as the leader of a single group. Two weeks ago, it was very clear when in Sunday School a member of the Bishopric noted that there were "196" members in Sacrament, meaning there were "444", who were not in attendance. I almost broke into tears on behalf of my Elders Quorum President.

So, do things seem better or worse with the changes in Preisthood Quorums?

Is participation up, or down in Ward and Stake activities?

My Father used to say, (not his words, but good words) "Change for the sake of change is not always good"! I have noted over my many decades of membership and activity in the Church, that many tune in (especially when a new President is called) looking for change. Looking for things they can point too, like the announcement of new Temples, as signs of "Revelation". For instance, "Home Teaching", was always meant to be "Ministering", but changing the name, does not change the mission. In fact, in most cases, all it did was change was the name, as in most cases coming up with a new system, proved too difficult, and most people kept the same assignments. In the mists of this change, where reporting was changed, many are not seen at all. I have not been called, or contacted, or visited since this change happened. But old workhorses like myself who might feel like not returning, always do at the end of the day. When my wife and I see "old friends", not just old people, we say how much we miss them. Then often comes the reply, "no one else does it seems".

I understand we belong to a growing Church, sometimes even a shrinking one to a degree. I understand the need for change, but seldom see how calling something by another name, or not calling something by another name changes much, if ever.

Truly seeking your thoughts, "not" just venting. Thank you all in advance.

I was just listening to Elder Nelson's talk in Women's session and you came to mind. It talks about how the men all combining in EQ came about. It may be a good one for you to listen to.

Thanks, I recorded it, I'll take a look. Question, have they done away with the Priesthood session?

In a message sent to Church leadership and to be read in worship services throughout the world, the Council of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced changes for future general conferences.

The letter states that "beginning in April 2018, the general women's session will no longer be held on the Saturday preceding the other sessions of general conference. Rather, the general priesthood and general women's sessions will each be held annually, with the general priesthood session being in April and the general women's session being in October." It continues, "These meetings will originate from the Conference Center on Saturday evening following the morning and afternoon sessions of the conference."

According to the letter, consolidating general conference sessions into one weekend furthers Church efforts "of reducing and simplifying the work of the Church and the demands made upon leaders and members."
