Duncan Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Do you think there is a difference between sustaining someone vs. enabling them? As I see it sustaining is asking to help or if they ask to help them you should do it, if able. I see enabling as someone not doing their calling and blowing it off to others to do. Reason I ask is this is the 5th sunday and it's supposed to be the Bishopric's turn to teach, well they didn't and this is the 4th time they were supposed to do the 5th sunday lesson and they haven't done it. They usually don't tell anyone until the day of that they weren't doing it and the auxillaries were to scramble to find someone. Gratefully someone jumped in and taught but some comments were made, not by me, about poor planning on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on my part. I was thinking about that during class, like how do you sustain people who don't/won't do their callings and it falls on someone else to do? like someone has to speak, or teach or do whatever, but you just can't leave it
RevTestament Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Personally, I think I would first try to find out if there is a good reason they are not doing it. Then I would pray about it. Then I may mention it to the stake presidency. Then I may not sustain them anymore if it continues. 2
Hamba Tuhan Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Do you honestly not discuss these things in advance in ward council??? 1

I think they create their own problems and then try to undo the damage that ensues

Surely no later than the week before - Bishop, the Bishopric is responsible for the 5th Sunday lesson. This has been missed the last several times. Can you share with the Ward Council what you have planned and how we can prepare the membership? He answers, you question him on pertinent questions that lead to clarity and an assurance that he will handle it. More importantly, this coming Ward Council you bring up this issue - Bishop, that is the xth time that the Bishopric was responsible for a 5th Sunday lesson and you weren't prepared. It is unacceptable and you would not accept that behavior from any of the auxiliary heads. Your lack of preparedness is not our emergency. Please don't do that again. Yes, you can consider this a call to repentance. 3

That just never happens in a well-run ward. I have never seen it, but maybe you are out in a branch in the boondocks. I look forward to our 5th Sunday with great interest, and am seldom disappointed. We had a particularly substantive one today, and I was grateful for it. The Bishop ran it with full participation by the members. Nearly everyone had something to say.

As I say it seems they create their own problems and then scramble to find a solution and to me it could have been avoided in the first place and very simply people just burn out when they get dumped on to do stuff

If you let them know, in advance, that you won't cover for them, they might be ready!

Well, on sunday morning my bro said they aren't doing it and I said, well, that's on you but the reality is we had to scramble to get someone to teach. I told him the next one is in July and based on comments from here, i'll bring it it up in the ward huddles! lovingly and kindly of course, ! maybe☠️
