JAHS Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 "From the beautiful spires to the elegant doorknobs and staircases, there’s no doubt that lots of thought went into the design of the Salt Lake Temple. And yet, not every detail that was planned or discussed ended up in the final structure. What would the Salt Lake Temple look like if every feature and thought had been incorporated? The original architectural drawings of the temple, found digitally on the Church History Library’s website, gives us some unique insights into six features that this iconic pioneer temple almost had." http://www.ldsliving.com/What-the-Salt-Lake-Temple-Was-Supposed-to-Look-Like/s/85752 The earth, Saturn, moons with faces, and apparently a head was to be added that looks suspiciously like Joseph Smith: 1

Glenn101 Posted July 28, 2017 Posted July 28, 2017 Don't want to talk about what might have been with the Salt Lake Temple. I am still sulking (after all of these years) because my favorite myth about the elevators shafts was shredded. Glenn 2

Starts with a P It seems to be some kind of architectural label -- my first impression was that the word is "Peristyle". That is an archtitectural term. "[A] peristyle (/ˈpɛrəˌstaɪl/; from Greek περίστυλος) is a continuous porch formed by a row of columns surrounding the perimeter of building or a courtyard."
JLHPROF Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 Personally, I wish we'd kept the actual "garden" (greenhouse). Actually, I think something feels lacking without the progressive room model and live actors that the film allows us to no longer use.

Haven't been there in a long time. Which other temples still do that?

Pretty sure they do, I was there around three years ago and went through a session and they did. I still think it funny that I rode the elevator to the parking lot with Adam and Eve. It has been 15 years or so since I went so my memory may be messed up, but I believe in Cardston we still moved through the progressive rooms even with the film. It was just stopped at the appropriate parts.
