Also taught elsewhere, in sources predating Brigham by many centuries.

I didn't hear about the teaching of Adam's polygamous wives, but that's for some
other time.

Thanks,
Jim

I wonder how long the church is going to go mum on this. Kind of dishonest to those that join and find out later, much later after having paid a lot of tithing to find this is how LDS really believe. Milk before meat, is really dishonest, IMO.

You are LDS, is this what you believe?  Have you heard it taught consistently from the pulpit?

Or are you suggesting we are locked into a certain interpretation of scripture and revelation for eternity no matter how our language and nuances of beliefs change overtime?

Yes, and I had no idea as an 8 year old or a nearly 48 year old the extent of our doctrine.

So this isn't what the LDS church leaders believe? Or we don't even have a clear idea from these leaders?

We don't have an edge over other churches out there, since we have living prophets and apostles?

Calm, am I to understand that the temple ordinances are not Adam-God driven?

Boy, I'm confused.

My opinion...there is a limited core doctrine of LDS belief, easily found in manuals and published talks.  The rest is people putting it together in a way that is meaningful to them.   The reality of life, of an eternity of eternal beings in eternal relationships doing infinite things  is so much more complicated than we can realize in our limited senses that when we talk about truth it amounts to a See Spot Run story as opposed to the epic, number one in the world, 100 volume masterpiece we can't even begin to wrap our heads around.  Like the elephant and the blind men some are getting very good at describing a small part of it just as some children's books are quite delightful, but the full vastness of the Gospel is going to take an eternity or two to master.

If Adam-God adds meaning to the temple ordinances for you as it has for some, then embrace and absorb it, don't fear it.  If it doesn't strike a chord, find another harmony to play with that melody...love racking up the metaphors.

Did you just take a shot at the LDS Church's continued use of the 1611 KJV with all its archaic prose, Calm?

I remember reading a similar response in Answers to Gospel Questions a long time ago.  It satisfied me for a little while.

Is it true that Brigham changed some or parts of the endowment from what Joseph introduced to add his Adam/God teachings and beliefs?  Or was his only addition the lecture at the veil?

We don't know his motivations, but yes he did change it.

There are many doctrines and practices of the Church.  There are many theories as well.  I think the Church is most concerned about members focusing on the important stuff.  The things that actually affect the salvation and exaltation of the member.  From reading scriptures, praying, home teaching, ect.  Nobody is going to be judge when they stand for God how much they knew about the Adam-God issue, polygamy, and a large list of other issues.  Perhaps the Church could to more on some issues by I support the Church at preventing itself from bogged down on questions and concerns about things at the end of the day will not matter.

Calm. this last paragraph here sounds like one has to wrap their head around the doctrine to make it work..and if it doesn't work..then make it work.

I find it interesting that you think you are smarter and wiser than your Creator.  OR, you are simply proclaiming that the church is false.

Perhaps you can tell us which is correct.  You would save alot of bandwidth simply to put this in your signature line.

So are all the teachings members see today in the endowment (Adam/God influence) from Brigham Young and not what Joseph restored?

Kind of backwards reading,if it doesn't work for you, then find something else that does.

The problem with meat/flesh is that there are sometimes tough parts like sinew and gristle  .Sometimes it is quite fatty . Sometimes it can be overdone or underdone. Some flesh, like puffer fish , if not properly prepared, can kill you. Then there is the blood infusing the meat. Come on Calm, help me out with the metaphor.

I divide LDS doctrine into four categories:

Tradition: Everything that has ever been taught or believed throughout Mormon history, e.g. Adam-God, Cain as bigfoot, men on the moon, Jesus as polygamist.

Official Doctrine: The current teachings taught by the church in official publications and videos, LDS.org, General Conference, etc.

Unofficial Doctrine: Teachings found in books sold at LDS bookstores that aren't considered official but aren't heresy either.

Absolute truth:  That which our puny mortal minds can't fully grasp although we do our best.

But most meat in the church is very rare..bleeding questions that can't season nor tender and smokes out only  a scent of an original truth.

Sorry, I am thinking too much about the lasagna in the oven.  Maybe after dinner.
