Christian Mormon Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 I wish I could find in the Bible where it is okay to read the book of Mormon. My relative says that she will only read the book of Mormon if the Bible tells her it's okay to read it.
RevTestament Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 (edited) I'm sure you know about Ezekiel 37 and Isaiah. Edited September 16, 2016 by RevTestament

More importantly where did the Bible give you permission to read or post on this board you sinful heretical hell-destined Not-Checking-the-Bible-Thoroughly APOSTATE?!?!?!?!?!? 3

Matthew 4: 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. What sort of "Bible" permission is she looking to find? It's not going to have the words "Book of Mormon" in it. Might help to find something if we knew what the Bible would have to say to convince her. 2
oremites Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Where in the Bible does it say it's okay or even necessary to read the Bible? Any scripture you can find that supports reading the Bible can be used to support reading the Book of Mormon. Here's one to start with: "But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4) 4
thesometimesaint Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Ezekiel 37:15-17 15 ¶The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying, 16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions: 17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand. 1

She says that Revelations says that you're not supposed to add to or take away from. But I already know all the answers to that. I was hoping there was something that says it's okay to add scripture.

Ummmm....these verses have nothing to do with the book of Mormon.
cinepro Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 It occurs to me that while I don't know if Mormons invented proof-texting, we sure as heck perfected it. 4
thesometimesaint Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Is she Jewish? Except for maybe the first 5 books of the Bible it is all added Scripture.

The two witnesses of Rev 11:3 don't seem to accept the Sola Scriptura view of the Protestants, and prophecy or give revelation for 3.5 years. Sola Scriptura tells the people not to listen to them... seems you can't have it both ways. Revelation only says not to change the Book of Revelation. Deut 4 says that too, but prophets kept on adding more books, or we wouldn't have the book of Revelation. That is about the best argument you can make with those who accept the Protestant view.

Given her misinterpretation of Revelation I don't think it would make much difference. You could point out that the Book of Mormon record predates the entire New Testament so doesn't fall under any prohibition in Revelation. Or you could point out that the same prohibition on adding is in the OT which would mean throwing out the entire NT. 1

Oliver_Cowdery Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 This post reminds me of Mormons who refuse to read any about religion unless its "church-approved". 1
thesometimesaint Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Those that do so are not following the prophet. 1

Cool, sounds like the NY Times best seller list, only this is the King James approved books list. I wonder if Harry Potter is on the list, can anyone send out a link?

Bernard Gui Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 If one reads the Book of Mormon and prays about it, Satan will answer your prayers. That's what I was told by an EV friend, daughter of a Baptist minister. Could be, I suppose. 1
