Will our church get involved? It is a Christian issue

A new study published Monday projected that Millions will be affected by sea level rise by the year 2100. The Paper was published in the respected Nature Journal.

The church likes to talk about the "dangers" of marijuana and same sex marriage,  what about climate change?

Humans have never experienced a rapid global climate change warming, never. Earth is warming 50x faster than when it comes out of an ice age. Rapid climate destabilization is what has climate scientists worried.

I hope our church joins the Catholic church on this issue, where are our prophets?

Are you personally doing anything about this issue? Can you please advise everyone on these boards what you have done since joining the Catholic church on this Christian issue. You are one of the "doers of the word" aren't you? Or are you one of the "hearers only, deceiving your own selves"?  Where are you Skeptic?

The Church has a very well-developed disaster response program which it uses to help victims of natural disasters, including that which result from rapid climate change.

I do think that if Church counsel were followed worldwide, (moderation and debt avoidance; for example ) many of the human ills attributed as causes or antagonists of climate change would not exist.

Not global warming again.

Climate has changed drastically in the ~4.5 Billion years this planet has been in existence.

Either you believe God is in charge or you don't. Which is it?

I usually burn wood in my woodstove insert for about 6 months out of each year, and garden and compost and recycle most of my garbage every year, and I've planted about 200 trees, mostly doug firs, and lots of bushes and plants on my land, and I drive a fuel efficient car most of the year, sharing it with my wife, and don't drive my Ram truck too much, and... well, some other things too.

And I am a member of the Church.

And there are many other members who do good things to help take care of the Earth.

So yeah the Church is doing something and I am doing my part.

What are you doing to help take care of this planet?

Right now the mean sea level rise in Alameda, CA is .67 millimeters from 1936 to 2014 or .22 feet per 100 years. Just an FYI.

Isn't it the same rise for every place the Pacific ocean touches, in the same type of weather at least?  Why specify Alameda, CA?

Please read the OP again.

Why did you change it?

I'll ask again, do you believe God is in charge or not?

As far as your claim that humans have never experienced this much climate change before is wrong

The temperature change around that time was "enormous compared to the climactic changes that are happening in our century," Posth told Live Science.

What would be the point in this effort? Both churches have strong belief that Jesus will be coming sooner.

I am sorry, but that thinking is kind of dangerous.

Question: In some cities when it rains 1 inch, why do some parts get flooded.

Probably because that is the place he is familiar with.

It is becoming increasingly clear that the climate models showing alarming rates of increase in temperature are badly flawed, My hope is that actual observations over time will dampen the " sky is falling " hysteria and cooler heads will prevail ( pun intended ) The problem is with the political side .Once that train started it will be almost impossible to stop or even slow. Kind of like the run up to WW1 . Once the troop trains got moving ,war was inevitable .

The thinking that God is in charge? I take it you don't think He is.

Have you read the helicopter story?

Basically,  God expects us to be good stewards, not passive.

We are copartners with God.  He gives us the wherewithal and expects us to be good stewards.  Passive dependence upon God is not only irresponsible, it is a direct violation of our free agency.  If we really love God and love our neighbors, we will take such problems to heart and do all we can to attenuate them.

We are not talking "models," but rather actual temperatures worldwide now for many  decades.  The rise in temp is clearcut, the recession of glaciers obvious, the loss of ice from Greenland, the Arctic, and Antarctic proven and increasing in speed, spring now comes earlier, fall later every year, ocean levels have already been rising, storm surges are doing greater damage, etc.  There is no hysteria, but rather a lot of denial, which only makes the problem worse, since we are not dealing with it effectively -- which means that the debacle coming at us now will be all the more devastating.

Yes, and when he gets here he is going to want to know why his so-called followers did not exercise good stewardship.

Both!

We'd get spectacular flash floods when I was growing up in Texas. I remember canoes on our street.

The ground would get so dry and hard that water would not absorb fast enough and would collect, flooding lower plains.

Well done thou good and faithful servant. Thou hast turned beauty into a hothouse garbage dump. Thou hast been faithful in this thing and thou shalt be made ruler of many overheated garbage dumps in the depths of Limbo.

Someone with no agenda needs to prove mankind is the cause first.
