Avatar4321 Posted January 27, 2016 Author Posted January 27, 2016 No but its a breaking story. No details about what happened or who died.
JLHPROF Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 You know, the government probably had very good reasons for ending this. But I can't help but feel my Mormon side recoil at any government raid. From General Lucas in Far West to Johnston's Army to Pyle and the 50s Short Creek raids. Government raids...*shudder*
Duncan Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 well, don't look at me I didn't do it! I don't even know where Organ is!

In my head if you raid a place first by gun-point, being raided back at gun point seems more like karma than anything tied to my ancestors. Glad the stupidity is over for the bit. Popular Post The Nehor Posted January 27, 2016 Popular Post Posted January 27, 2016 Yeah, I do not see it as a raid. I see it as removing domestic terrorists from federal property. 14
The Nehor Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 They have the name of the deceased now. Finicum, one of their spokesmen. He left behind 11 children. I am sure they will take some comfort from the fact that their dad thought playing cowboy was more important then being in their lives. 4
The Nehor Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 It also is not over. This was at a traffic stop. The rest of the militia is still there. Hopefully they will surrender now that their leaders are in custody. If I understand right there is now a perimeter and they cannot get in or out.
strappinglad Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Let's see who fired the first shot. Three guesses.
The Nehor Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Just now, strappinglad said: Let's see who fired the first shot. Three guesses. I would not be upset if the FBI fired first. I am guessing these ridiculous wannabe Rambos had their weapons ready to fight when this went down and when you face a suspect brandishing a firearm you shoot to kill. I will judge law enforcement badly if the militia yahoos were unarmed and were shot while surrendering in a non-threatening manner. 2
strappinglad Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Wouldn't be tragically ironic if it turned out that the dead man was the only one not armed ? I await the inevitable dueling lawyer's show on the news.

If you do not want to be shot down like an armed terrorist do not get in or ride in a car with armed terrorists. Words to live by. 1

I am not really familiar with this case, and it is probable that the FBI did exactly right. But I still cringe at such actions. (And let us not forget that Mormons in Utah during the time of Johnston's Army were also considered by many to be treasonous cultists who ignored the laws of the land and resided in a Federally controlled territory.) Heck, George Washington et al were considered domestic terrorists on British land back in 1776. Edited January 27, 2016 by JLHPROF

With luv of karma, bd What place was raided "at gun point"? Those arrested, which they should be, were not "raided" neither. They were pulled over in a traffic stop and ten the shootout happened thereafter. Ammon's brother was released from the hospital after being wounded in the shootout and those in the federal building were told they were free to go. Those who oppose what these occupiers are doing, I myself do not support everything they have done despite having lots of empathy for their overall plight against federal overreach f private property, frequently make it sound like a chaotic wild west scenario. That was Ferguson with *no* federal enforcement, not this Oregon incident.

I will judge law enforcement badly if the militia yahoos were unarmed and were shot while surrendering in a non-threatening manner. What if they were armed and surrendering? Now, if armed and did not comply with direct instructions from law enforcement in the pursuint of arrest would justify firing first but you make it sound like since they were armed it's OK to shoot them first. Is that correct?

Being armed, taking over a building while armed in protest to government overreach on people's private property, saying you would die for the cause is terrorism?
