I want to be cremated. I don't like the idea of worms/maggots growing in and coming out of my decaying flesh until they eat it all to the bones and then gradually what's left of my flesh and my bones turn to dust. Just burn it all up at once in a flash and then scatter the dust over my yard.  Just make sure I am dead, that my spirit has left my body, before you do that. Okay?

Assuming translation is out of the question,  of course.

On second thought maybe cremation is the way to go.

Cheaper too. And they'll usually let people borrow or rent a nice coffin for the wake or funeral service.

These days, they fill you so full of preservatives that the worms would die.  No worries about the worms, my friend!

No preservatives for me. I'm vegan, mostly.

Besides I am also interested in keeping the funeral costs low.

Gotta wonder why she brought a gun to the funeral at all.

Isn't the real question why wouldn't someone bring a gun to a funeral?

I'm in for cremation too.  Not because of what would happen to my body otherwise, but because it's significantly less expensive, and without the fanfare.

Cremation.  Scatter my ashes someplace -- I don't care where.  No ceremony.  If people want to get together and talk and reminisce, that's fine, especially if they make up stories about me.

It takes a good person with a gun to stop a bad person with a gun. Therefore if everyone has guns we will live in a state of perpetual standoff like the Cold War where everything is fine unless you give Cuba nukes. I believe the equivalent of that is arming our pets:

I saw a FB friend's dad that had a casket like you'd see during an old wild west movie, just a plain old wooden casket.  First time seeing that outside of the movies.

I have never felt a funeral was for the deceased, but for the living.

I appreciate the Crockett's story of the stake president that just wanted a simple graveside service with the family and then drop him in the ground.  When I came into the world only my immediate family - my mom and dad - were present and really cared about what was happening.  I would think my exit should be the same allowing my children to remain and cherish their lives and the times we shared together while I am embraced by my mom and dad once again.

Fanfare and being the center of attention have never been motivators for me and I have always felt them to be burdens rather than anything else.  I appreciate the quiet departure of slipping into the beyond.  It behooves me to let friends and family know that they have been loved, admired, respected prior to the unknown date my number is called and I am allowed to depart this mortal life.

The last funeral I attended, for my friend's mom, he spoke at the service and said she had been rather insistent there not be a funeral.

"Nobody would come," she reportedly said.

He replied, "Well, if nobody but the family shows up, that's at least 200."

My philosophy of funerals is reflected in a line from a Nitty Gritty Dirt Band song, "Buy for Me the Rain":

"Gravestones cheer the living, dear, they're no use to the dead."

My SIL died in an accident.  I thought he was a hot headed, grudge carrying loser who had been unable to hold down a job for the ten years they were married.

I must have been at the funeral of someone else because I sure didn't recognize who they were talking about.
