Our Trinitarian brothers and sisters in various denominations have often misconstrued or misunderstood our doctrine, but I feel like the Trinity is one area where us Latter-day Saints have misunderstood their doctrine.

 

Trinitarians have no problem with the notion that Jesus and the Father are separate personages or beings. They have no issue with Jesus praying to the Father. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are all separate persons in the Trinity, yet they are all equally God. How this union exists is a mystery only to be discerned by faith and revelation rather than human reasoning.

 

Where Latter-day Saints deviate from the Trinity is our "demystifying" of the Trinitarian union, as well as our non-opposition to monolatry or henotheism. Yet, if discourse and dialogue is to continue into the future we have to drop our parroting of the notion that the Trinitarian notion of deity is somehow a worship of some Transformer-Megazord-esque mishmash of the Three Persons of God.

I've had to stop members from conflating trinitarianism and modalism in their denouncement of different religious doctrines many times.  It drives me crazy when i hear a member pull out the old 'why would Jesus pray to Himself?' answer to debunking the Trinitarian view of God.

 

I've also actually argued with professed trinitarians when they have described their beliefs as Modalism, trying to explain the difference and how modalism is seen as a heresy by most Trinitarian denominations.  

 

This is one of those topics that a lot of people don't really understand, even if they've grown up in the religion.

It's pretty well-known here that people on the dark side pretend to be on the good side. ;)

 

To quote the Witchsmeller:

Agreed. The problem is the ambiguity of the word "being". It is the verb " to be" made into a noun.

It can mean anything. Something alive, usually. As applied in this context, it becomes a place holder for any definition one can insert.

I was thinking more along the lines of Tito's Tacos or some Dim Sum in Chinatown. Now that most of my team at work is local to you, chances are I'll be out there more often. I am totally serious that I'd love to meet for lunch.

If you know Tito's you can't be all bad! I used to live around the corner and instantly started putting on weight until I figured out why. ;)

Now I just need to find a reason to go meet with the team. I was born in Inglewood, and my dad worked in Culver City, so we know Tito's quite well. And, as an added bonus, I'm pretty sure the knives and forks are plastic, so little chance for physical injury. Our office is in Playa del Rey, which is pretty close to Culver City.

I think it's pretty much just fingers and lots of napkins, actually.Culver City is just up Jefferson, like 2 miles or so from PDR. I lived in PDR for awhile myself.

Last time I was there, my dad and I drove past the house my family lived in when I was born. Hard to believe they had 6 children in a 900-square-foot house. My 3 brothers and I literally shared a large pantry as our bedroom.
