Harden not your heart;

6 aAnd the bsons of Moses, according to the Holy Priesthood which he received under the chand of his father-in-law, dJethro;
  7 And Jethro received it under the hand of Caleb;
  8 And Caleb received it under the hand of Elihu;
  9 And Elihu under the hand of Jeremy;
  10 And Jeremy under the hand of Gad;
  11 And Gad under the hand of Esaias;
  12 And Esaias received it under the hand of God.
  13 aEsaias also lived in the days of Abraham, and was blessed of him—
  14 Which aAbraham received the priesthood from bMelchizedek, who received it through the lineage of his fathers, even till cNoah;
  15 And from Noah till aEnoch, through the lineage of their fathers;
  16 And from Enoch to aAbel, who was slain by the bconspiracy of his brother, who creceived the priesthood by the commandments of God, by the hand of his father dAdam, who was the first man—
  17 Which apriesthood bcontinueth in the church of God in all generations, and is without cbeginning of days or end of years.
  18 And the Lord confirmed a apriesthood also upon bAaron and his cseed, throughout all their generations, which priesthood also continueth and dabideth forever with the priesthood which is after the holiest order of God.
  19 And this greater apriesthood administereth the gospel and holdeth the bkey of the cmysteries of the kingdom, even the key of the dknowledge of God.
  20 Therefore, in the aordinances thereof, the power of bgodliness is manifest.
  21 And without the ordinances thereof, and the aauthority of the priesthood, the power of godliness is bnot manifest unto men in the flesh;
  22 For without this no aman can see the face of God, even the Father, and live.
  23 Now this aMoses plainly taught to the children of Israel in the wilderness, and sought diligently to bsanctify his people that they might cbehold the face of God;
  24 But they ahardened their hearts and could not endure his bpresence; therefore, the Lord in his cwrath, for his danger was kindled against them, swore that they should not eenter into his rest while in the wilderness, which rest is the fulness of his glory.
  25 Therefore, he took aMoses out of their midst, and the Holy bPriesthood also;

Which would require that every mention of the Melchizedek priesthood throughout the entire Bible would have had to be edited out in multiple books throughout the Bible including the entire NT.

or not put there in the first place and the Aaronic Priesthood was in place  as per DC 84:27, although the prophets held the Melchizedek Priesthood

Why do you think that something as important as the Melchizedek priesthood would not be mentioned at all--especially given the fact that the Aaronic priesthood is so heavily discussed?

Hebrews chapter 7 makes it clear only Jesus holds the Melchezedek Priesthood and no other. That's why the Bible mentions no one in that position.

LOL

What about Melchizedek?

David Whitmer

An Address to All Believers

Chapter IX

HIGH PRIESTS.

High Priests were only in the church before Christ; and to have this office in the “Church of Christ” is not according to the teachings of Christ in either of the sacred books: Christ himself is our great and last High Priest. Brethren — I will tell you one thing which alone should settle this matter in your minds; Mormon where one single high priest was ever in the Church of Christ. The a High Priest being in the church. This alone should convince any one, and was established in the church almost two years after its beginning by men who had drifted into error.  (page 62). . .(page 63) We will now go to the New Testament in the Bible. In no place therein does it mention one single High Priest as being in the Church of Christ. High Priests are spoken of in Hebrews iv to ix, but only to explain that Jesus Christ is our great High Priest after the order of Melchisedec. It speaks of High Priests that Christ, except only in Christ himself. . ."

Is it possible that David Whitmer is right in the above quote?

Um.... what about Melchezedek?

Post #76 has a whole list of priesthood holders, one of which is Melchezedek.

I have no idea, I don't have access to the minds of people who lived before Christ

is this really happening?! why would the priesthood be named after him if he never held it? is he just some fall guy?

That is why I did a head slap a few posts back.  This is a very good indicator that he is not serious or is very obtuse.

You don't have to read the Encycopedia of Mormonism to come up with this argument. You just have to know about Mormonism to see the inconsistencies.

I have already answered this 5 or 6 times. The power of God is not the same as the priesthood. God is the SOURCE of his power, and when he delegates that power to men it is the "priesthood".

You appear powerless to understand the distinction. The power of the Police Department is the civil authority held by the city or the county or the nation, but policemen are people who are delegated the authority to enforce the law.

THEY are NOT "The law"- they are people delegated to enforce the law. For the last time, the Power of God is not the priesthood, the priesthood consists of people to whom are delegated the power of God to help him minister to people. It is like confusion electricity with a light bulb.

A light bulb is not electricity, nor is it electrical power. It uses electricity, it channels the power of electicity, it uses electricity in a practical way to light a room but A LIGHT BULB IS NOT ELECTRICITY ITSELF. That is consistent with your quote.

I am done. No more from me on this. If you still do not understand, I will not respond.

I am not responding to him anymore.  It's easier to bang your head against the wall.

Hebrews 7 RSV

For this Melchiz′edek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him; and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. He is without father or mother or genealogy, and has neither beginning of days nor end of life, but resembling the Son of God he continues a priest for ever.

Melch. is a priest of the "most high God"

Abraham tithed to Melchizedek as his spiritual leader, because he held the priesthood.

HE CONTINUES A PRIEST FOREVER and resembles the Son of God in this regard.  I don't know how it could be more clear.

By interpretation, Melchizedek's name means King of Peace. So when we say Melchizedek Priesthood we're actually saying 'Priesthood of the King of Peace.' And this is why Peter calls the priesthood he and his brethren held "a Royal Priesthood"; or in other words, the priesthood of heavenly kings. This is why in the Book of Revelation the Saviour promises those who "overcome" the right to rule and reign as kings, seated on the throne of His own eternal royal power and authority; it's the reason why the Book of Revelation proclaims that those who overcome are promised they will rule the nations with a rod of iron, just as Christ does; and one reason why He is called the King of Kings is because heaven is filled with heavenly kings who will rule and reign on the throne of Christ, even as Christ overcame and is sat down with His Father in the Father's throne (Revelation 3).

I repeat, the Priesthood of the King of Peace (Melchizedek Priesthood) empowers those who possess it, and overcome the world, to become heavenly kings unto God and Christ forever...

6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father (Melchizedek was a king and priest unto the most high God); to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (Revelation 1)

10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. (Revelation 5)

Quite simply, the Melchizedek Priesthood is the royal priesthood of eternal kingship -- it's all in the Bible.

yeah!

Duncan already mentioned him in his post that I was quoting. BTW if you read the verses closely it never says that Melchizedek held the Melchizedek Priesthood.

Can you find any other person in the entire Bible who held the Melchizedek priesthood?

Many people in the Bible held the Melchizedek priesthood, but because that exact term wasn't used and you don't understand priesthood or its purposes, you don't make the connection.

Just because the word "Melchezidek" isn't found everywhere in the Bible, the Melchezidek priesthood is evident EVERYWHERE in the Bible, and very clearly distinguished in authority from that of the priests of Aaron (Levites etc).

So your claim is that the priesthood that Melchizedek held was not the "Melchizedek" priesthood. So what priesthood would be after the order of Melchizedek? Something he had no connection with?

You know how you sound, right?

Go back and read about Melchizedek.  He was a type or shadow of Christ.

nonsense.

And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears,

one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life.

(Hebrews 7:15-16)

which of these was made priest on the basis of the power of an indestructible life? which lives forever?

Noah? died. Genesis 9:29

Abraham? died. Genesis 25:8

Abel? died. Genesis 4:8

Adam? died. Genesis 5:5

Enoch? ha! maybe so.

why did Abraham pay a tithe to Melchizedek if Abraham was himself a priest? was he "buying" priesthood?

how can Melchizedek have received priesthood 'from the lineage of his fathers' when the scripture says the priesthood of Melchizedek is not by ancestry?

Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.

(Hebrews 7:3)

how can one "without father or mother, without genealogy" receive anything through lineage?

Posted

Since you say that many people held the Melchizedek priesthood in the Bible could you name some of them for me?

12 Apostles (with the power to seal on earth and in heaven)

Moses (with the right to enter God's presence)

Adam (who walked and talked with God)

Abraham (who paid tithes to Melchezidek and made convenants with God)

Elijah (who both was a prophet and would be sent to bring together fathers and children)

Melchezidek himself - the priest of the most high God (a high priest)

and of course, Christ himself.

And many, many others.  But because the word "Melchezidek" is only used speaking of two people you don't recognize the connection.  These men were authorized to do things the average "believer" cannot.  They had authority of some kind.

Even if you feel like none of these represents "Melchezidek priesthood" where then did these men receive their authority to accomplish all they did in the name of God and why is the Christian world at large unable to duplicate these actions?

how can you say Christ is a priest after Aaron if Christ is not a Levite?

He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar.

For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.
(Hebrews 7:13-14)

Did someone claim Christ was a Levitical priest?  A Rabbi, sure, but not a Levitical priest.

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine: and he was [is] the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, "Blessed be Abram to the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth, And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand". And he gave him tithe from all.

Pretty simple.  Melchezidek was a priest of the most high God.  He "blessed" (ordained) Abraham to the same office.

The Melchezidek priesthood was named in his honor (see Hebrews) but it was always of the most high God.

I don't see how this can be a debate.
