We are members of His order, so why would He be ordained into it by us? The High priesthood is always recieved with an oath and a covenant, so it makes perfect sense that Christ would covenant with His Father to receive His stewardship. 1

mfbukowski Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) Exactly, Jesus recieved power from His Father, His own order of priesthood. We are members of His order, so why would He be ordained into it by us? The High priesthood is always recieved with an oath and a covenant, so it makes perfect sense that Christ would covenant with His Father to receive His stewardship.Exactly. We see that today in Royal families. They are born royal so they do not need to have "royalty" conferred on them, yet they can confer it on others who do not have it. In effect the Priesthood is like being God's "agent"- he gives us the authority to do things for him, as say a real estate broker can be someone's agent to sell their house and act in a limited way, in their name. "I sell this house in the name of Jones" is essentially what happens, and that parallels the way the priesthood works. Jones does not need to BE his agent- he is himself and so does not need delegated authority to act on his own behalf. We say "the worlds were created by the power of the Priesthood" because 1- those were acts of service and ministry. Mankind needed a place to live, so God provided one. He in effect ministered to us by building a house. And- 2- who actually did the work of creation? Jehovah and Michael and who knows how many others as a "Priesthood Service Project" "This is my work and my glory, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man", in other words, "raising the kids", ie: us! Canadaigua Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 Yep.Where is the word "Priesthood" there? I can't find it for the life of me.Encyclopedia of MormonismPriesthood". . THE SOURCE OF PRIESTHOOD POWER. Jesus Christ is the great High Priest of God; Christ is therefore the source of all true priesthood authority and power on this earth (Heb. 5-10). Man does not take such priesthood power unto himself; it must be conferred by God through his servants (Heb. 5:4; D&C 1:38).Before the world was created, Jesus Christ, the great Jehovah and firstborn of God the Father in the spirit world, covenanted to use the power he had obtained from the Father to implement God's program for the eternal happiness of all God's children (cf. TPJS, p. 190). The actual name of the priesthood is "the Holy Priesthood after the Order of the Son of God"; but to avoid the too-frequent repetition of the name of deity, it is called by other names, particularly the Melchizedek Priesthood; i.e., it is the same authority held by that righteous king and high priest (Gen. 14:18; Heb. 5:6; Alma 13:6, 17-19; D&C 107:1-4;124:123).. . ."The topic is "Priesthood" and the section heading is "The Source of Priesthood Power". The word "Priesthood" is used in the immediate surrounding sentences. And your conclusion is that "power he had obtained from the Father" is not speaking about Priesthood?

Why don't you come up with an original argument? You obviously were not reading the Encyclopedia of Mormonism and came up with this obscure argument all on your own. Why don't you just get to the punch line already? Stop baiting us. 1
HOLY CATHOLIC Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Hebrews chapter 7 makes it clear only Jesus holds the Melchezedek Priesthood and no other. That's why the Bible mentions no one in that position.
Canadaigua Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 Why don't you come up with an original argument? You obviously were not reading the Encyclopedia of Mormonism and came up with this obscure argument all on your own. You don't have to read the Encycopedia of Mormonism to come up with this argument. You just have to know about Mormonism to see the inconsistencies.

ERayR Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 This is where an insertion that the Bible is "true as far as it is translated correctly" goes. Or a read in the Old Testament.
CV75 Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 When did Jesus receive the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthood? On or shortly after April 6, 12 A.D. and 19 A.D. respectively. 2
Canadaigua Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 No, it is what you don't know but think you do that is causing you problems.Fill me in then--how about starting with the question of this thread. When did Jesus receive his Priesthood?
Duncan Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Or a read in the Old Testament. exactley, Melchizedek had it or else it wouldn't have been named after him 1

Canadaigua Posted January 6, 2015 Author Posted January 6, 2015 exactley, Melchizedek had it or else it wouldn't have been named after himA little bit off topic but since you brought it up I couldn't resist. Can you find anyone in the entire Bible besides Christ who held the Melchizedek priesthood?
ERayR Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) So you don't have an answer for me? Not for one whose mind appears as hard as a hickory knot and I don't even have a corn dodger nor a pumpkin. Edited January 6, 2015 by ERayR

Canadaigua Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Melchizedek.Duncan already mentioned him in his post that I was quoting. BTW if you read the verses closely it never says that Melchizedek held the Melchizedek Priesthood. Can you find any other person in the entire Bible who held the Melchizedek priesthood?

Canadaigua Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Head slapDon't you find it a bit odd that you can't find a single person in the entire Bible besides Christ (and perhaps Melchizedek) who holds the Melchizedek priesthood?
Duncan Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Don't you find it a bit odd that you can't find a single person in the entire Bible besides Christ (and perhaps Melchizedek) who holds the Melchizedek priesthood? mentioned in the Bible that is, but I think it is one of the plain and precious truths that the revelations of the restoration brings back
Canadaigua Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Here is an interesting verse from JST: "For this Melchizedek was ordained a priest after the order of the Son of God, which order was without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life. And all those who are ordained unto this priesthood are made like unto the Son of God, abiding a priest continually (Hebrews 7:3 JST)." “The Priesthood is an everlasting principle, and existed with God from eternity, and will to eternity, without beginning of days or end of years [see Joseph Smith Translation, Hebrews 7:3]. The keys have to be brought from heaven whenever the Gospel is sent. When they are revealed from heaven, it is by Adam’s authority."https://www.lds.org/manual/teachings-joseph-smith/chapter-8?lang=eng"For this Melchizedek was ordained a priest after the order of the Son of God. . ." Prior to Jesus' birth to Heavenly Mother Jesus was not the Son of God. Couple this with the fact that Jesus "covenanted to use the power he had obtained from the Father"--one has to conclude that Jesus received his priesthood after his spiritual birth and that he has not always held the priesthood after the order of the Son of God.
Canadaigua Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 mentioned in the Bible that is, but I think it is one of the plain and precious truths that the revelations of the restoration brings backWhich would require that every mention of the Melchizedek priesthood throughout the entire Bible would have had to be edited out in multiple books throughout the Bible including the entire NT.
