cursor Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I personally prefer the Orson Pratt quote - we will be producers of light and energy instead of consumers. Immortal bodies shouldn't need to be replenished. One can certainly "personally prefer" any quote (like the Joseph F. Smith quote that clearly stated that man would never land on the moon).
Calm Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I personally prefer the Orson Pratt quote - we will be producers of light and energy instead of consumers. Immortal bodies shouldn't need to be replenished. It is possible that there is some sort of overcompassing law that includes mortal bodies having to intake energy and immortal bodies outtaking it so to speak, but everything we know up to this point indicates a body constantly giving off energy without replacing it will eventually run out. 1
Calm Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 So where does God receive his energy from. The scriptures seem to indicate that he produces it.But producing energy doesn't exclude absorbing it. After all we produce energy ourselves. 1
JLHPROF Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 One can certainly "personally prefer" any quote (like the Joseph F. Smith quote that clearly stated that man would never land on the moon). Well considering this is all speculation and there is 100% lack of any definitive revelation on the subject, I feel as justified in choosing the Orson Pratt theory as any other theory on the subject. All we know about energy/light is in the first law of thermodynamics (which Joseph Smith taught too): In an isolated system, energy can only be transformed, not created or destroyed. In other words, when energy passes, as work, as heat, or with matter, into or out from a system, its internal energy changes in accord with the law of conservation of energy. So if there are beings that have to change matter into energy to create the physical matter of their decaying bodies why can't there be beings with bodies that don't decay that need only absorb the energy of the universe instead of converting matter into energy first.....as long as we are speculating wildly.
pogi Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 "Immortal bodies" hardly suggest that there isn't some necessary plug ... some necessary source of supportive energy. Natural law says that "it has to freakin' come from somewhere" (really, that's what the natural law states ... in those words). Does natural law say that, or is it simply man's limited observation of natural law -mortal law? There are laws of immortality that we can only guess at. If I had to guess, I would suggest that the light of Christ - the power of God - the source of creative powers and organization of the universe - the power by which all things are governed - is the source of immortality and life giving energy. It will flow through our veins according to Joseph Smith (if by "the spirit" he was referring to the light of Christ which is frequently the case).
pogi Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 So where does God receive his energy from. The scriptures seem to indicate that he produces it. The power of God is the light of Christ.
Calm Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) How God deals with entropy in the universe is going to be one of my first questions when I get the chance.Maybe there is an anti universe out there that has reverse entropy and both universes survive eternally by trading back and forth (like animals trade oxygen and co2 with plants as a very limited analogy). JLHPROF Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 The power of God is the light of Christ. Which is? As long as we are trying to apply science to immortality here, what kind of "energy" is the light of Christ?
Mola Ram Suda Ram Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 How God deals with entropy in the universe is going to be one of my first questions when I get the chance.I was thinking about asking about black holes. 1
cursor Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) So where does God receive his energy from. The scriptures seem to indicate that he produces it. I doubt that you have a clue. Certainly I don't.You say, "The scriptures seem to indicate that he produces it." From what source? What might be it's form? Might there be multiple forms of resultant energy for varied functions? If so, what differentiates those power sources? Is there some new energy table that we all must learn as Gods to be? "Energy" is not a single, simple entity. There must be classes, intensities, delivery systems, controllable values, etc. AC is not the same as DC. AC is available in how many flavors? What are the rules for responsible manipulation of DC? God-control of the universe must be MUCH more intense and carefully controllable than simple AC/DC ... don't you think? Hell, what goes on at the Sun level? Edited December 17, 2014 by cursor
pogi Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) Which is? As long as we are trying to apply science to immortality here, what kind of "energy" is the light of Christ? The scriptures say that it is light, spirit, truth and power. I can't speak beyond that. When you consider that the source of all energy for life on earth comes from the light of the sun (which is only a small representation of the light of Christ), you can see how it might give life and energy to immortal beings. I can't say what it is for sure beyond what the scriptures call it, but I can say what it does. It is “the true light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world” (D&C 93:2; see also D&C 84:46). It fills the immensity of space. It is in all things, through all things, etc. It is the power of creation, organization, and the government of all things that live, move, and think. It quickens our understanding. It is the power of God as the scriptures say. This light (the power of God - the source of energy and power of the sun which gives energy and life on earth) will flow through our veins in place of blood, unrestricted. Joseph Smith and others suggest that it will quicken our flesh. Do we really need to look for another source of energy? I think that pretty much nails it. Edited December 17, 2014 by pogi
Ahab Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) It might help some to realize that our spirits are already eternal, and we have been taught that they can't be destroyed. So our spirits do not need any food to be able to continue to exist. The food (of the earth) we take in is not to sustain our spirits. The food (of the earth) we take in is to sustain our mortal bodies, not our eternal spirits. And when we are resurrected with resurrected flesh instead of the mortal flesh we have now our resurrected flesh will not ever be separated from our eternal spirits, so our resurrected flesh will also be eternal. It may still be possible for our resurrected flesh to look bad or lose some of its rosey glow when it is malnourished, but it's still going to stick to our spirit and never be separated from it. The key to warp drive engines, and some other things.
Calm Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 (edited) No, not antimatter as matter and antimatter annihilate each other...I am thinking of a process like a perpetual motion machine which is impossible as far as we know because some of the energy is used up running the thing. Like a water wheel that lifts water up to the top of a spill and then the water falling moves the wheel...which lifts the water...which moves the wheel...etc. etc...What is considered disordered for our universe is ordered for someone else so we keep sending each other our end product which is the beginning component for them...etc. etc.Doesn't work as far as we know with anything discovered yet...but maybe there is some sort of mirrored universe, still would seem to have the usual problem of some energy being consumed by the process of exchange so eventually running down. The more anti matter in a mix adding more energy with the matter keeping it from being too much.Something to ponder more about, if you want to.

Calm Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Antimatter and matter are real and can interact. Are you saying your suggestion was pure speculation?
Ahab Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Antimatter and matter are real and can interact. Are you saying your suggestion was pure speculation?I am saying that now. I admit to having an imperfect understanding of matter/anti-matter encounters and was thinking it would be something like magnetism. Now that I've read some more about them I now understand that the trick can involve allowing the opposing particles to come into contact. I like your reverse entropy idea a lot better.
Calm Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Thank goodness, I was thinking I had completely missed a new discovery...glad to know my brain isn't completely whacked yet.
Canadaigua Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Luke 24:39----King James Version (KJV)39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. My question is--does God have a resurrected body of flesh and bones? I posted this question because of some of the criticisms I have heard from non-LDS. Comments? When I last visited the small visitors center at the Smith Farm/Sacred Grove in Palmyra New York my attention was caught on a statue that showed both God the Father and Jesus Christ together. I looked at it closely and noticed that Jesus has wounds in his hands--then I looked to see if the Father also had wounds in his hands but he did not. Since many LDS have stated that the Father was the Savior of the world during his earthly ministry does anyone find it odd that the Father doesn't have piece marks in his resurrected body?
halconero Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 1) We're not sure if the Father was the Saviour. I feel like he was, but there's nothing official about it.2) We shouldn't assume that the prints in his hands and feet will be permanent. 1
