The Nehor Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 I agree heartily, while being ambivalent as to whether they should be welcomed into the country they arrived in illegally, or sent home to get a visa and wait their turn.Their turn will most likely never come.
ERayR Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I agree heartily, while being ambivalent as to whether they should be welcomed into the country they arrived in illegally, or sent home to get a visa and wait their turn. Agreed but it is not the bishop's job to be an immigration officer.
BCSpace Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I know it has influenced my views on it significantly, and is part of the reason why I am probably more liberal than conservative on the issue. I think it is important to see people. The Church supporting a 'softer' approach on immigration is a myth just like the Church has changed it's position on homosexuality is a myth. There is nothing liberal in the Utah Compact which the Church signed. Following the Utah Compact is THE conservative approach and is nothing at all like what the current administration has done.
JLHPROF Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Their turn will most likely never come. Actually - Best case is about 4 years (from entrance to citizenship - with American spouse and no hiccups). The whole process is ridiculous.
JLHPROF Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory. Any law we support that makes gathering to Zion more difficult goes against the will of God and we should be very careful. At the current time we are not required to gather, but if the time comes that changes and we have voted to put stupid laws in place we could easily find ourselves on the wrong side of God's will.
Calm Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Are they asked on the forms if they have ever been here illegally?
Nofear Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Just some things to note for the record:the is no legal requirement or obligation to report an illegal alienthe Church does not even currently consider it an ethical obligation to report an illegal alienillegal aliens are allowed to hold callings in the Churchthe Church does encourage legal immigrationBeyond that, I see that MormonFreeThinker's post of Church statements did not get much play. Whether or not the content of those links in his post comes into the discourse, I think every faithful LDS member interested in talking about the issue should at least be informed about the Church's statements. Personally I think we should pretty much do away with immigration restrictions altogether. That goes further the Church's current position.

Mexico is an oligarchy in serious need of reform. The people need greater safeguards of Constitutional Liberty. They need to "Breath Free" . . . (Not to deny that the USA may already be oligarchic to some degree) . . .
thesometimesaint Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Besides the point. Mexico is an oligarchy in serious need of reform. The people need greater safeguards of Constitutional Liberty. They need to "Breath Free" . . . (Not to deny that the USA may already be oligarchic to some degree) . . . The point is that the US of A has never had the problem of minding its own business. From the Louisiana Purchase(We didn't purchase it from the Indians but from the dictator in France) to sending US troops to Mexico to our latest misadventures in Iraq and Afghanistan(Thousands of troops there indefintely). Yes Mexico still is serious need of political reform. The Mexican Constitution with significant differences is still very similar to the US of A Constitution in its delineation of rights.SEE http://mexidata.info/id1707.html The US of A is a plutocracy in all but name.http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-echochambers-27074746
ERayR Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 "From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli" The US of A is an oil exporting nation. We import far more than we export. The us is an oil importing nation. However that doesn't have to be so. Estimated oil reserves in the US are far greater than even the middle east.
