Popular Post DonBradley Posted June 25, 2014 Popular Post Posted June 25, 2014 I took the trouble of communicating with John Dehlin about the "Strangers in Zion" website, the press release for which had poorly written text implying that John Dehlin and Kate Kelly were behind the site and advocating that church members ask their local leaders for disciplinary councils. John responded and told me I'm free to share his thoughts with others. 1. John had heard the idea of a website like this before someone created it, but he learned of its existence only this morning--from me. He also told me: 2. "I have zero role in organizing and running it." 3. "I value my membership and don't desire that folks leave the church." 4. "My position is that folks should do what is best for them." 5. "I'm not advocating resignations or requesting of councils." 6. For people considering resigning their membership or having a disciplinary council, if they judge it best for themselves, John is of the opinion that disciplinary councils "do more to build awareness, empathy, and dialogue" than do resignations. 7. This is just him "sharing my opinion about" what leads in the direction of "greater awareness, dialogue, and eventual empathy," and should not be misunderstood as advocacy: "I am not advocating for these things." 8. He just messaged me to add: "Just spoke w/ Kate. She had not heard of the site. She also said that her inclination is for folks to stay and make a difference from within. Feel free to share this too." __________________________________________________________ BTW, I'm providing this information as a kind of public service announcement so people will have accurate information. I would hate to have people believe, falsely, that John and Kate are running a website to get people to call for disciplinary councils. Such a misunderstanding could wrongly color their interactions with their church leaders and could be harmful to many Latter-day Saints who greatly respect these two. If it need be said, I think my position on leaving the church should be clear from my own decision to return to it through the waters of baptism four years ago. Don 14

Other than that, it capitalizes the first letter of every word in the title, whether one intends it or not. This has long been a minor source of irritation to me.

In it she makes two comments which are germane to the topic of this thread: Interviewer: What you said yesterday, you know, urging people to stay in the Church and try to make it better. Kelly: Yeah, I think people should stay, but if they stay they should raise hell....Interviewer: Any advice for young feminists? Kelly: My advise for people in general is, and particularly young feminists, is don't follow me. Follow your heart. If you feel you can stay in the Church and you can be yourself and you can actively contribute to making it a better place, then you should. And if you can't, for your own mental well-being or your own emotional health, then you should find a safer place. Thanks, -Smac
Ahab Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Makes me wonder what Satan likely told those of us who decided to accept our Father's plan but could sympathize with how Satan felt when our Father didn't accept his counsel.Could at least partly explain why some people have raised a lot of hell here, in addition to the hell raised by the 1/3 who chose to follow Satan back then.
