How Did The Court Proceedings In The Uk With President Monson Turn Out?

I've also seen an 18 year old guy baptize his little bro. I think to baptize someone you just need the Melchizedek Priesthood

Then you'd be incorrect, since a Priest can baptize. He just needs to be authorized by the man holding the keys to authorize it.

So what?  Your tone seems to suggest that you believe otherwise, do you have any evidence that that might be the case?

Quite an inference, savedbygrace.  What do you think this achieves?  I meant what I wrote--kindly take my words at face value.

I want some please.  I miss those really good blizzards.  There is something so appealing about being in a warm house looking out the window and seeing nothing but snow.

Plus Utah has a drought going….how did I ever end up in a desert?

you can certaintly have our snow!! The elders were out shovelling tonite! hahaha! course I was home and warm and reflecting on good it is to be an RM "you're outside, in the snow and in the freezing cold shovelling and your DA lunched you?, man that's terrible, well let me know how it goes! I think my hot chocolate is almost ready, bye!"

You've stated on other posts that you are on this board because you like to challenge other people's testimonies. If you're going to do that (and it seems an odd motive) you need to not make yourself look silly. No-one's going to feel challenged by someone who doesn't know what they are talking about.

It would have taken 2 minutes to google the requirements for performing baptisms in the church. Perhaps you should do a little more research and don't assume so much. Have you heard the little adage about what happens when you assume? I'd say it's making a big one of "u" and not much of one of "me." Having said that you've just had 5 minutes of my life, so maybe I am one after all.

I grew up in the church and know all about doctrine. I'm pretty sure you just need the Melchizedek priesthood to baptize as I've done baptisms for the dead when I only had the Aaronic priesthood, plus, like I, and another on this forum have witnessed many people getting baptized by their siblings. Don't know how I made myself look silly but whatever. So if I was wrong (which looks like I was about half right) then I will defer to your infinite wisdom in setting me straight fully.

Which looks like all you need to perform baptisms is the Aaronic priesthood. You however need the Melchizedek priesthood to bless the newly baptized with the holy ghost.

Seems to me like you have a grudge cause I'm not a member of the LDS church, that or you're trolling over something so menial as to what keys and priesthoods one must have to do certain things within the church. You could have easily have corrected me but apparently you had to let me know that I'm "silly". Whatever dude.

Now THAT would be interesting.

"Pope sells Vatican City and Gives the Money to the Poor".

Maybe they could put up a nice office building or something.......... Or better yet, how about a shopping mall? They have that whole square for parking.....

(I am just kidding. Vatican City is a worldwide treasure and human culture is pricelessly enriched by its existence and as a monmuent to God for the ages)

Good I couldn't take the Sistine Chapel as a theme park. Besides what could you get for that one building alone? Painting by Michaelangelo, Botticelli, Perugino, Ghirlandaio, tapestries by Raphael, each panel worth millions on its own. Would a Billion be too little? Probably.

you can only do baptisms for the dead if you are endowed and a Melchizedek Priesthood holder and as has been stated you need to be at least a Priest (at least 16yrs of age) to baptize someone)

Dude as soon as I received the Aaronic priesthood when I was 12 my mom would take me (and later my little bro) on what we called "temple trips". I've done baptisms for the dead in like 9 or 10 different temples from Boise to SLC to Vegas and many more, so no, you don't need to be endowed. The person performing the baptism needs the Melchizedek priesthood though. But to stand in for the dead person (in other words a name on a piece of paper), all you need is the Aaronic, idk what they do for girls/women, but I'm pretty sure that all my memories of visiting all those temples and doing all those baptisms isn't a fabrication or falsification of my memory. But you are right, you need the keys of the Aaronic priesthood of a priest to perform baptisms, but need the Melchizedek to set apart, perform blessings, and to give the recently baptized the gift of the holy ghost (in other words a conscience, something you receive whether you're baptized or not, you just have to be a human being, unless you're a sociopath)

I remember reading something somewhere that all the names they do for baptisms for the dead have been baptized like 2 or 3 times already.

yes, getting baptized for someone you don't need the Melchizedek Priesthood but to baptize someone else yes you do. I doubt highly that everyone baptized ever has been done so a few times but I know what you are talking about. We need to keep better records or some people are super bad people and needed to be baptized like 20 times :diablo:

No, you don't need the Melchizedek priesthood to perform baptism, you only need to be a priest with the proper keys of the Aaronic Priesthood. You just need the Melchizedek to do the blessing and all that stuff after said baptism.

That's why they have computerized the whole process, to avoid the duplication.  That is unlikely now under the new system.

Get regular baptized = No priesthood needed

Perform regular baptism = Aaronic Priesthood (Priest) or Melchizedek Priesthood (any office)

Get baptized for the dead in Temple = Aaronic Priestood (for boys)*

Perform baptism for dead in Temple = Melchizedek priesthood (any office)

Are we all on the same page?

*No priesthood needed for girls, presumably it might be theoretically possible for a boy to be baptized for the dead without him having the Aaronic preisthood, but I don't see it ever happening

Actually a Priest can officiate at the sacrament table and offer the sacramental prayers. They can prepare and pass the sacrament. They can also baptize, confer the Aaronic Priesthood, and ordain deacons, teachers, and other priests. Along with whatever other duties Teachers, and Deacon perform as directed by the Bishop.

Ps; In the Temple the person being baptized for the dead need not hold any priesthood.

I thought you guys were talking about baptisms for the dead. If you wish to be the person actually doing the baptism (not the persons being dunked) for the dead you need to be more than just a priest with the  Aaronic Priesthood. Otherwise what you are saying is right. You only need be a priest to baptize for the living.

If it's a male the policy is that they need to be an Aaronic Priesthood holder.

True for males, not true for females. They don't need the priesthood to be baptized for the dead.

Did you ever stop to consider that if you are mistaken on something as simple as who can baptize, something that is easily learned and pretty unambiguous, that you might be misinformed on other things in the Church?

My suggestion is you read the scriptures and educating oneself. It's much more prudent than lecturing people on things you clearly don't know. And if you want to get upset because people point out it's silly, you're going to be very unhappy in life. People are going to say things like that. You can either get offended or you can ignore it and move on.

Any priest can perform a baptism. He doesn't need special keys. The person with the keys (Usually a bishop or branch president) has to authorize him to use the priesthood in this regard.

i have no doubt that you were probably raised in the Church. But when you are wrong about basic things like this and want to lecture people about the Church and doctrine, no one is going to take you seriously.

I believe this is correct though I dont believe the scriptures mention it. But that's been my experience.

No, not in the scriptures.  I believe that it would fall under the heading of what we call policy.

If believing members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are right, when we get to the other side, those for whom we stood in as proxy so that their saving and exalting ordinances could be performed will come up to us and thank us profusely for giving them the opportunity to be numbered in the Good Shepherd's Fold.  I wonder, when this happens to those who have acted as proxy for the departed, but since have become disaffected from the Church of Jesus Christ here in mortality, what their first thought will be:  "And here I concluded that it was all just a bunch of bunk. Maybe I was wrong?" :unknw:

Just a thought! ;)
