DEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPP!!

More importantly. Is there Dr. Pepper in heaven?

You don't think we're the only people on a planet who have figured out how to make it, do you? I plan to go shopping somewhere else if we ever stop making it here, preferrably the diet caffeine free cherry vanilla variety.

That reminds me a lot of the more aggressive evangelicals who like to tell Mormons what they really believe. Isn't it easier (and more respectful) just to let people speak for themselves?

There's one big difference between me and some of those people, though. I tell the truth about what people really believe without the false propaganda.

It's hard to take these loaded thread titles seriously. It is doubly hard when the author probably plays video games in his parent's basement.

and it's more difficult to take responses with ad homenium attacks seriously.

I'm sure they'd say the same thing.

Because loaded titles deserve serious response, uh huh.

I'm not the one who suggests that videogamejunkie plays video games in his parents' basement.

But does he? And more importantly would that invalidate thoughts that come out of his brain, whether via his mouth hole or via his fingers?

Wow, you took my observation personally.  It was an observation on your comment, but not directed at your personal posts or beliefs.  I have certainly not had any issue with your posts.  But I stand by my observation of people in general.

Fair enough.  I apologize for any misunderstanding. :)

P.S.: And, sadly, I can certainly see an abundance of the phenomenon you spoke out against in your reply to me on this thread. :(

One for you and one for Forrest! ;)

Awww ... :friends:

Combined with the loaded question, high likelihood.

Are you sure of that...?

I'll have to pull the book off of the shelf and find some quotes that seem to be in-line with Plotinos.

By the way, I'm with you on logical positivism.  Someone needed to slip Carnap a healthy dose of LSD and get him to face metaphysics directly ;)

yes, yes, the irony of a chemical compund proving metaphysical realities was intention...

Well when you find a physicist who is investigating being or substance, let me know. ;)

Combined with his other comments since he's been posting, low likelihood.

Your posts are adding up to a high likelihood of something too.

"besides near death experiences, is there any proof or evidence of an afterlife?"

Define "proof". I have had personal observations that after much thought led me to believe, long before I joined any church, that there is. But they were personal observations and as such only valid to me. I could relate them but then it would be my veracity that mattered as the experiences are not repeatable.

The problem with near death experiences is that they are just that, the people are "near" dead.

Unlike "mostly dead" which is a different think altogether but you need Miracle Max for that.

Me  too jaxenro, I can relate (and have on this board) two specific experiences... one by me and one by my sister within minutes of each other on the night our mother died suddenly.... both of these gave each of us tremendous comfort during a very difficult time, but I have no "proof" that can be demonstrated scientifically.  Only what I saw... and what she heard and felt... that we personally can relate.  But then, that's not scientific.  It is, however, enough to strengthen us both in our faith in life beyond the veil.

If you think about it, if anyone is having true experiences where their immortal soul is actually leaving their body, there would be no way for them to remember it. Memory is a chemical process - if conciousness has somehow seperated itself from the brain, the brain would not be able to record it anyway. No one would remember a true NDE because it wouldn't have been "written down" in the brain. Which is why I am skeptical of NDE experiences when used as evidence for the afterlife. I think if there is an afterlife NDEs are not the kind of evidence that would point toward it.

Depends where you land, as to how strict the Word of Wisdom is, more interesting question is whether there will be pot.

And why does He help find our missing keys but won't find food for the starving child. I hate it too! And yet I've prayed to find things too, but it doesn't sit well when prayers are answered for such minor things, yet not for more significant things.

God has done something for the starving child, the sick homeless man, the unemployed single mother, and so on: he created you, and me, and everyone else willing and able to help.

I'll tell you what. I'll tell people what they believe only when I know what they believe from what they tell me about their beliefs and what I already know about their beliefs and until then I will just ask them some questions until I know what they believe. That's what I do now, so it really wouldn't change anything about how I find out what other people believe, but maybe it will help you to understand the way I find out.

Or maybe you could just mind your own business.

Well, right now God is probably wondering if his solution to the problem was to limited.
