Joseph Smith's Burial Site

Could anyone tell me where Joseph Smith is buried? I think I read somewhere that he was buried under the floor in Carthage jail, surely he can't have been left there? I am curious because I have heard of various tours and pageants connected to LDS history, but no-one ever mentions visiting his tomb.

And they say we worship Joseph, yet no graveside pilgrimages.  Kinda makes you wonder..

He's buried in Nauvoo beside Hyrum and Emma.

Yup.

Been there.

He was moved around quite a bit to avoid any discretion of the grave and I believe the final move took place in the 1920's.

How many times does the average LDS make a "pilgrimage" to the Holy Land?

What are you considering as the Holy Land?

You couldn't pay me enough to visit the middle east of that's what you meant.

I have been to SLC twice and Nauvoo once - does that count?

Standing in holy places, a humbling experience, as well as uplifting. However, I don't think i could face a pilgrimage to Israel, the commersialism, which I know is inevitable, I feel would destroy any spiritual benefit.

Not even sure what the holy land is. I can only think of the temple. And there are lots of those around the world so members were ever they live don't need to travel 5000 miles.

It's not an uncommon term.

My point being that if "pilgrimage" to the site of a person's death is a necessary component for "worship" of that person, then it would be tough to make an argument that LDS "worship" Jesus.

Going down into the Jordan River, in Palestine/Israel, also could be detrimental to your health.  Raw sewage still gets dumped into that river at places.

On property owned by Church of Christ. You can visit it.

I was there last month and I believe you're right, unless it's just headstones and not their caskets. I think they are right by the Mansion House. ETA: My husband and I also went to the Nauvoo burial grounds. And when we arrived there was a missionary, an older gentleman that was trying to locate graves. Apparently the mobs desecrated many of the headstones and threw them in a ravine. The missionary had a divining rod to help locate the graves and we saw it working and the energy pulling it downward. First time I'd seen anything like that! Probably one of my favorite parts of visiting Nauvoo. My husband was skeptical about it really working. Interesting that according to this missionary, the church had only recently started locating the graves! Unless I heard wrong. Edited by Tacenda

How many average LDS even have the money and time to go to the Holy Land, let alone even to Nauvoo?

If the Holy Land was in the U.S. it would be often.  Further, many LDS do go to the Holy Land, likely only slightly less than those that go to American sites.

So, the answer to your question is few, thus your question is both disrespectful and shortsighted.
