Daniel Peterson Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I read over on another board (one that I won't identify) that someone calling himself Kishkumen is really getting beaten up on over here. His board colleagues have commiserated with and consoled him on the vicious treatment that he's been receiving. But, comrades, I'm afraid that we're not doing as well on that front as our reputation would suggest.Let me explain:On that other board, fifty thread titles show up on the front page. Eight of those, currently, are expressly about a certain person who posts here and whom I know extremely -- and I mean extremely -- well. That's sixteen percent. Furthermore, another six threads, or twelve percent, are indirectly connected with . . . um, that same person. Which (I was once a mathematics major) yields a total of fourteen (14) threads, or twenty-eight percent (28%).On this board, only thirty thread titles show up on the first page, so an adjustment needs to be made in order to set an appropriate standard. Twenty-eight percent of thirty would be 8.4 threads. That's the number that would be required merely to maintain parity with that other board. (I'm not going to complicate things by factoring in the length and emotional intensity of the threads over there, but I will say, candidly, that both are, in my judgment, much more impressive than anything remotely relevant here.)I'm very disappointed to say that I don't see 8.4 threads on the first page here that are dedicated to criticizing Kishkumen. Not even close. Yet, as I say, that's the absolute minimum that would be required even to stay in the race, to say nothing of taking or maintaining the lead.Come on, people. We can do better than this. 3
MorningStar Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Do we have to know who he is to make a thread about him?
Robert F. Smith Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Do we have to know who he is to make a thread about him?You mean the sockpuppet of Scratch? Problem is the correct spelling is Kishcumen in the manuscripts. Anyone who doesn't know that can't be taken seriously. 2
Stargazer Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Do we have to know who he is to make a thread about him?Of course not. This thread is about him, after all, and I haven't the faintest idea who he is. Neither do you, apparently! I am not certain if Dr. Peterson knows who he is, either.Well, Dr. Peterson, who is this much-maligned poster? Inquiring minds want to know. We can't bash him effectively until we know him, after all.Or maybe that doesn't matter. Hmmm.
Stargazer Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 A quick search of Members provides this information on two possible users:KishcumenJoined on Apr 15 2010 07:40 AMNew Member · 0 posts .KishkumenJoined on Sep 13 2007 09:21 PMNew Member · 1 postsThe Kishkumen user with 1 post, well, you can't see that one post because apparently after we got moved from MADB to MDDB the thread that he/she participated in didn't get transferred over. There's not much there we can bash, but I will give it a shot! Here you are:Kishkumen or Kishcumen is just mean, and not only mean, but mean-spirited. And annoying, don't forget that.
Freedom Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Oh I'm a kishkumen and I'm okI post all night and I curse all dayOh I'm a kishkumen and I'm okand I want a hug from Dan 1
Chaos Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 (edited) One thread will have to do. That is worth 20 of theirs.Oh never mind. You MDDB guys are funny, have at it. Edited March 16, 2013 by Chaos
Daniel Peterson Posted March 16, 2013 Author Posted March 16, 2013 (edited) Do we have to know who he is to make a thread about him?No, I don't think that's really necessary. Much of what's said on that other board about their target on this board is pure fictional fantasy, so -- I insist on a level playing field, on a single standard for all players -- I don't believe that actually knowing anything about Kishkumen is required in order to participate. You mean the sockpuppet of Scratch? Problem is the correct spelling is Kishcumen in the manuscripts. Anyone who doesn't know that can't be taken seriously.Who said anything about taking him seriously? Participation in the game merely requires regarding him as the incarnation of evil. Nothing more.I recommend a quick reading of Orwell's 1984, with a focus on the character of Emmanuel Goldstein and on the practice of the "two minutes hate" that is depicted there. Two minutes a day isn't too much to ask, is it? You can work up from that. Perhaps, someday, if you're a real virtuoso, to twenty-fours hours daily. But I'm not demanding heroic efforts from any single individual. Just consistent teamwork and broad participation.. Edited March 16, 2013 by Daniel Peterson
cdowis Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 There is no such thing as bad publicity.Only if it misspells your name.

blackstrap Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 kishcumen sounds like a type of condiment or spice. Oregano, garlic, halipeno peppers, kishcumen ,and a little thyme should make for an interesting curry . 2

blackstrap Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I propose that these Kish threads be combined and pinned over on the Social hall forum to run competion to the Three Word Story thread. First one to 10,000 posts wins!
Zeta-Flux Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Don't forget the cardamom. That sounds like some kind of pokemon.Gotta catch em all.

Calm Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 http://www.lds.org/s...9-12?lang=eng#8My 1.967358214 cents. 9 Now this did please Kishkumen exceedingly, for he did suppose that he should accomplish his design; but behold, the servant of Helaman, as they were going forth unto the judgment-seat, did stab Kishkumen even to the heart, that he fell dead without a groan. And he ran and told Helaman all the things which he had seen, and heard, and done.http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/hel/2.3?lang=eng#2Somehow a few threads about how Kishkumen looks like Snape and shouldn't wear a speedo pales in comparison to what happened to the first Kishkumen.
wenglund Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I am working very hard to gin up enough interest in Kishkumen to say anything bad about him in this thread, let alone starting another thread or multiple threads about him. The best I could muster was stifling yawn. Sorry. Thanks, -Wade Englund-
Daniel Peterson Posted March 17, 2013 Author Posted March 17, 2013 I've just checked over at the Contempt and Defamation Board, and it seems -- unbelievably -- that some of them are taking this seriously. They're marveling at the "vitriol" here, and about how "caustic" this and related threads are, and comparing this board to Lord of the Flies. Even after years of clinical observation, I still marvel: They don't seem even remotely aware of how nasty and hateful their own place is, and they (or some of them, anyway) really do seem to think these these threads about Kishkumen have actually been vicious.Well, with that in mind, I'm here to ratchet things up yet another few notches:Kishkumen hates bunny rabbits! 2
CASteinman Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I don't get any of this, but apparently merely saying that is enough to get me thread banned. Which I also do not get.
Daniel Peterson Posted March 17, 2013 Author Posted March 17, 2013 It's just a joke, CASteinman. If you don't get it, that's fine. No problem. You may lack the background that would help you to get it. Which, if so, is a piece of good luck (or divine grace) for which you should immediately drop to your knees in humble gratitude. 2
Calm Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I don't get any of this, but apparently merely saying that is enough to get me thread banned. I suspect it was more the comment that now "he is fair game to abuse" accusation (equating these threads to abuse) in the middle of your 'not getting it".
Bill Hamblin Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 You're so vain, you prob'ly think this thread is about you! Don't you, don't you! 4
Daniel Peterson Posted March 17, 2013 Author Posted March 17, 2013 You're so vain, you prob'ly think this thread is about you! Don't you, don't you!Incidentally, does anybody here besides me know who sang (uncredited) backup on that song by Carly Simon?(Please, though, don't let this question distract you from the fact that, as I disclosed at the end of the previous page, Kishkumen is so low a human being that he actually hates bunny rabbits.)
CASteinman Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I suspect it was more the comment that now "he is fair game to abuse" accusation (equating these threads to abuse) in the middle of your 'not getting it".Aren't they abuse? Maybe not. I might not get it at all.
