not in this instance.

As I said earlier, please study immigration law, also study prosecutorial discretion. It will be impossible to continue the discussion if you remain uninformed.

No need for that kind of talk.

What is so hard about learning about the subject?

Let me recap, just to help you out.

1. Being here without a valid visa is not a crime

2. Law enforcement can pick and choose who they prosecute (or deport) in these cases. This is known as prosecutorial discretion.

a. This happens all of the time, in all areas of the law.

b. If someone is not prosecuted, it does not mean law enforcement is violating the law.

c. It as not a violation of the law to not deport someone

d. There are many instances where to deport someone would be against the law (hardship cases, cases where status is pending, etc.)

3. Working here without a visa is not a crime, it is not even against the law. There is no fine given to anyone who works here without a visa.

4. Owning property without a visa is not a crime.

5. There is no legal way for someone without a relative here (who is not highly skilled) to immigrate here.

6. Internal Revenue Code expressly defines residence as having nothing to do with immigration law.

These are a few facts to help you out.

You also might want to visit with an immigration attorney for more information about immigration law

You might want to talk to your bishop or stake president about the churches policy about granting temple recommends, mission calls, etc to people here without a visa.

I suppose It's time to give my proposal.

First, make it significantly easier to immigrate legally. A simple background check to be sure they aren't Hamas or MS-13 types. If you are generally peaceful, you get in.

Second, non-refugee immigrants are not eligible for public (taxpayer/extortion funded) welfare. (The morality of such programs for natural born citizens is a separate topic I don't want to get into here.)

Third, those who still enter illegally in spite of my proposed reforms but aren't violent criminals or terrorists can gain legal status through either a four year term in the military with either an honorable discharge or re-enlistment. Conscientious objectors may be able to serve in something like Americorps or Peace Corps instead, but their service should be significantly more onerous to discourage those who would choose that path for reasons other than their moral beliefs.

That is more or less the case already (until they have been in the country for a certain number of years), yet they are required to pay taxes all along. It is patently ridiculous, and makes life difficult for our families.

Given that the statement in question was made by Pres. Uchtdorf, it may be of interest to know if he is now a U.S. citizen?

It seems fitting that the statement for the Church be made by an immigrant, giving it a personal and empathetic touch.

Right, well the Spirit stays with me when I denounce illegal immigration so God must have not made up his mind yet.
