Nathair/|\ Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 A few minutes ago, today, on the Senate floor, Rand Paul reported that a government website is saying that if you store food, you might be a terrorist. What does this mean for those like the Saints who hold that storing food is a religious duty?
ksfisher Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 I've never heard of food storage as a religious duty. Attending sacrament meeting, going to the temple, those are religious duties. Food storage is just really good advice.
USU78 Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 I see MSNBC hath been with the present administration. 1
Bill “Papa” Lee Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 A few minutes ago, today, on the Senate floor, Rand Paul reported that a government website is saying that if you store food, you might be a terrorist. What does this mean for those like the Saints who hold that storing food is a religious duty? The terror is that people might be "self reliant". Ekk
Questing Beast Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Mormon "fundamentalists" are terrorists in embryo. All it would take is another persecution, especially by the Gov't, and they would take to the hills and wage war physically in defense of their religion. Don't "wait for iiit", though....

What does this mean for those like the Saints who hold that storing food is a religious duty? Why would terrorists be collecting food storage? Are they planning on contaminating the food/water supplies? If that is the case, shouldn't the government be telling citizens to be collecting food storage instead of making us suspect if we have it?
rodheadlee Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Who ever wrote that doesn't live in an earthquake zone. 1

emarkp Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 The original report that got people (justifiably IMO) all het up was The Modern Militia Movement in early 2009. Do a search for it but avoid prisonplanet and infowars links (conspiracy theory wacko sites). It's pretty amazing stuff. I don't recall that one refering to food storage but I seem to recall a later report warning about people stockpiling food.
emarkp Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Ah here's the report that refers to stockpiling food:http://michellemalkin.com/2009/04/14/confirme-the-obama-dhs-hit-job-on-conservatives-is-real/If you don't care for Malkin's commentary, just download the linked PDF report.
Nathair/|\ Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 I'm more concerned on this board with how this will affect the Saints who have followed the counsel of our leaders and stored a year supply or more of food than anything purely political.
tyler90az Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Rand Paul only cares about furthering himself in politics. All he cares about is attacking the Obama administration with ridiculous claims. That whole drone strike on the US soil accusation is retarded and a waste of time. I hope for the sake of America he never becomes President. Thre has never been a politician that is so transparent in the fact he cares about no one but himself and how to politically move up. It is hard to believe people eat up what he says. 1

tyler90az Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 It has to do with the fact he is probably exagerating what it says. Also the fact that you are trying to accuse the government of saying Mormons are terrorists. That is all scare tactics.

emarkp Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) tyler, have you read the government PDF? Are you accusing Rand Paul of lying about Holder's statement on killing US citizens on US soil? Because it's also being reported on CNN, Huffington Post, and other non-right-wing sources.http://www.cnn.com/2...-cia/index.htmlhttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/05/us-drone-strike_n_2813857.html Edited March 7, 2013 by emarkp
Nathair/|\ Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 I do still want to keep this focused on how the accusation will affect the Saints if policy is derived from it. 1
pogi Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I do still want to keep this focused on how the accusation will affect the Saints if policy is derived from it.The church has had such a long track record of teaching and encouraging food storage that I don't see the government seriously holding any member of the church under suspicion of terrorism for adhering to it's long held teachings of food storage. 1
Tacenda Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I do still want to keep this focused on how the accusation will affect the Saints if policy is derived from it.I know in Utah they are pushing to get a law to make it so no-one would need a gun permit to carry one. So anyone can buy a gun, no background checks. Their logic is that if more people were thought to be armed their wouldn't be crime. I wonder if they know more than we do and forsee a standoff with the government. Quite a few Utahns wanted to succeed and not be apart of the USA, maybe this is a factor. BTW, I looked on pg. 5 of the report mentioned above and didn't see Mormons listed anywhere.
emarkp Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 However, the current administration is just fine with forcing Catholics to violate their conscience. If they now have no objection to killing citizens without due process, why would they respect the teachings of the LDS church.I fully expect rising food prices will see the administration villifying "food hoarders" precisely the same way they have villified bankers, etc. Tying food stockpilers to survivalists and militias will definitely result in a chilling effect on food storage efforts.
Okrahomer Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 ...BTW, I looked on pg. 5 of the report mentioned above and didn't see Mormons listed anywhere. The OP refers to a specific assertion on a government website that there could be a connection between those who store food and terrorism. This statement on page 5 seems to be the one:"Antigovernment conspiracy theories and “end times” prophecies could motivate extremist individuals and groups to stockpile food, ammunition, and weapons."
tyler90az Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 tyler, have you read the government PDF? Are you accusing Rand Paul of lying about Holder's statement on killing US citizens on US soil? Because it's also being reported on CNN, Huffington Post, and other non-right-wing sources.http://www.cnn.com/2...-cia/index.htmlhttp://www.huffingto..._n_2813857.htmlI am aware of the ability to use drone strikes in the US. Rand Paul is just using it as a scare tactic. Acting like President Obama will just start using drone strikes on American soil for no reason.Eric Holder said, "I suppose," to imagine an "extraordinary circumstance in which it would be necessary and appropriate" under U.S. law for the president to authorize the military to "use lethal force" within the United States. However, Holder said the question was "entirely hypothetical" and "unlikely to occur."The United States, he said, has not carried out such action domestically and had no plans to do so.Holder said a potential scenario might involve a president ordering such action "to protect the homeland" in a case like the 2001 al Qaeda attacks on New York and Washington or the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941."The option is simply open, in a worst case scenario, like Holder stated to "protect the homeland." Imagine if that option was not available and we needed to use it. There is no way a President could just start killing his own people. He would be tossed quicker then he can press the button for the strike. Military coup, citizen coup, congress coup, senate coup and many more coups would happen.
