Extraterrestrial Influence In The Past. What Think Yee?

So I saw this audiobook in the library called "History is Wrong" by Däniken, Erich von. It was completely different from what I thought it would be, but it has been very interesting listening.

It talks alot about how all the bible stuff with prophets talking to angels and god was actually them talking with extraterrestrials, and that we have been mislead into thinking that these are divine beings in the way we think of them in our religions.

Human civilization has actually been here for 100,000 of years, and not just the 6000 recorded in the bible, and the pyramids were actually built by aliens.

It also talks about the Book of Enoch, and him being taken up to God was him being taken away from the aliens.

It's pretty interesting, and some of it 'sounds' plausible, but a lot of it sounds like Art Bell, Coast to Coast nonsense too.

I don't know, do any of you think it possible that people in the past had contact with aliens who might have helped to guide human kind and things are much different than we have been taught in history.

They've already came, landed on the Mall in Washington DC, found absolutely no intelligent life, and left never to return.

In all seriousness if a highly intelligent alien species were able to cross the incredibly vast distances of interstellar space. We would have very little to offer them outside of our natural resources and that of being a food stuff.

See "To Serve Man".

As a kid, I loved Von Däniken's "Chariots of the Gods?" and all that spun off from it. However, much of what he mentioned in his book had alternative, far more mundane explanations.

While I agree that there is compelling evidence of UFOs, the conclusions about what they really are -- or who they are -- remains ellusive.

ah, I "believe" in UFOs but not little green moon men. I, for the most part don't believe in conspiracy theories

But aren't angles extraterrestrial beings? Is God not an extraterrestrial being?

angles you say? I think God is a Celestial being!

Supernatural needn't include extraterrestrial. For all we know Angels could live on Mars, but there is no evidence for such.

all that money and research to find out that Mars looks like Nevada...

Von Daeniken did have some good illustrations and points. One of them was the question of what future archaeologists would make of unearthing the Statue of Liberty. Wouldn't it be along the lines of a mother-goddess connected to the sun (rays emanating out from her head) or fire (the torch she's holdiing)? The point being that how we interpret artifacts and their significance can be *completely* different from their actual meanings within the culture.

Extrapolated, what would future archaeologists make of unearthing a stake center in the distant future? Clearly a place of worship, where the ceremonial ball court was central to their worship . . . :)

Rongo, that brings up once again the delightful movie "Galaxy Quest" which illustrates how easy it is to misinterpret what one sees or finds.

I've always thought in reality God is an extraterrestrial as he doesn't dwell on earth, so what's the big deal.

Man built it under their influence, of this I am certain...but what we call alien is from God, in the form of inspiration. I think we have forgotten more than we know today.

A good example of drawing conclusions with limited evidence is that commonly held belief that the child sacrifices occurred in Central america. The evidence is limited to 2 or 3 graves with more than 4 bodies laid in rows. The finds are not linked in time or by culture so the conclusions are based on sweeping assumptions. It does not occur to some experts that these children may have died of a common illness, or that they were victims of a single murder.

I do know that right angles are extraterrestrial, and so are most of those acute little ones, but those reflex ones ... well they are just evil. :acute:

It is rubbish.

It strokes the modern ego in two ways: Ancients were idiots that needed guidance and we see through the whole thing. It also dispenses with a modern fear: that there is a power behind the morality we reject.

It is pure wish-fulfillment and creative thinking. Like imagining Mars is actually Middle Earth and we have not found it because the Valar are hiding it from us.

D&C 76: 1, 24 says "Hear, O ye heavens, and give ear, O earth, and rejoice

ye inhabitants thereof, for the Lord is God, and beside him there is no Savior.

That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created,

and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God".

Jesus would be an extraterrestrial to these non-Earth worlds.

Since an "extraterrestial" is simply some one/thing not from this earth, I would say that classifies God as an extraterrestial.

So yeah, all the prophets were speaking and interacting with an extraterrestial

Many scientific conclusions come to us this way.

If you want to get technical we all are extraterrestrial beings... our spirit birth was on another planet and we helped create this earth. As for angels being aliens, I think the following precludes that:
"In answer to the question—Is not the reckoning of God's time, angel's time, prophet's time, and man's time, according to the planet on which they reside? I answer, Yes. But there are no angels who minister to this earth but those who do belong or have belonged to it. The angels do not reside on a planet like this earth; But they reside in the presence of God, on a globe like a sea of glass and fire, where all things for their glory are manifest, past, present, and future, and are continually before the Lord." (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 130:4-7)
So technically they cannot, but depending on your point of view you could argue we all are extra-terrestrials at least spiritually.

To answer the OP. Much as I like the idea of extra-terrestrials visiting earth, and had a very strange UFO siting when I was younger (witnessed by 2 others), as did my brother on his mission, despite all this I think it's sadly nonsense.

I accept the possibility of life on other planets. But I don't think they have independetly visited this one. I think any visitor to the earth has been on God's errand.

And I don't think the Millenium Falcon's name has a double meaning in it.

According to D&C 88: 37 where there is space ,there is a kingdom. We are surrounded by space and as such there must be kingdoms out there. There is altogether too much evidence of life that is beyond our own with technology far in advance of ours.
